Sorry about that I swear Profile Manager had that functionality at one point. We are still using WGM to manage 10.8.3 clients including dock settings. Another solution I found on apple support is to create an empty workflow as an application in Automator on your server and save that workflow as Logic Pro to the applications folder on the server. Just tested this with Logic Pro and it works! If you need further assistance with this dont be afraid to ask Jordan

What you can do is go to profile manager via safari using your profile manager url on a machine that has logic installed. That way in dock settings when you browse through the applications folder logic will be there.... Hope This Helps Jordan

If all you want is a password on boot, you can set a Firmware Password to be required to turn on the machine. This is how I do it in DeployStudio

Hi there, Did you run the DeployStudio assistant to create the netboot set on the 10.5.8 server, or one of the 10.6.8 clients. Most likely 10.5.8 is to old of a Mac OS build to boot your MacBooks.... If you create your netboot set on a 10.6.8 or later machine, you can still host the .nbi file that the assistant creates on the 10.5.8 server for netbooting clients... The trick here is to save the .nbi file created on 10.6.8 to an external drive, plug that drive into your server and place the .nbi image into /Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP0 directory on your server. The MacBooks should then be able to boot off your netboot set.... Hope this helps Jordan

Hi Ian, What computer and OS are you using to create the netboot set/ usb drive? and also what build of Deploystudio are you using?? The problem you are having with netbooting clients is most likely that the netboot set you created in DS was done in a OS X build to old for your hardware to support... The best solution is to create the netboot set on the latest mac you have deployed. Not sure about the USB problem, never happened to me on RC133. are you using a nightly or stable version?

Hi there, as noted above DeployStudio is the best free solution to imaging macs. I have not encountered any problems using masters created from machines with OS X Combo updates applied. I just built an image from the original 10.8.0 app from the app store using a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, updated to 10.8.2 using the combo update and have now started deploying it out to iMacs and MacBook/Pro's ranging in vintage from 2009-2012 and it works without issue. They key is building the master image on the newest piece of hardware you have...

Not sure if this belongs in the Mac Thread or the Hardware Thread...........So apologies if this is in the wrong place but heregoes: I have here a late 2006 iMac running (or was) 10.6.8 that won't boot and showed me the "question mark" folder icon upon startup. The first time I could press "option" to get to the bootpicker, the internal HD was not showing but I could boot up off an external HD running 10.7.4. I tried to mount the internal HD in disk utility, but disk utility couldnt see it. I restarted the machine again and it saw the Internal HD and booted off it and worked for about an hour running under 10.6.8 and then froze again. So the machine was again restarted, but is now giving me a prohibitory sign! I cant even access the bootpicker!! This mac is a factory late 2006 17" iMac 2.0 Core 2 Duo with 1GB Ram and nothing has been modified btw. I have tried zapping the PRAM, resetting the SMC, reseating the RAM all to no avail... Thanks in advance....

I have not managed to get the script to work in ML. So in the interim, 1. I created a admin user called "profile" set everything up in that account the way I want... 2. I ran onyx to clear all the recent items and other cruft that accumulates during this process 3.Then I login to root user (I have had troubles doing this under a normal admin account), enable hidden folders by entering the following command in the terminal: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES; killall -HUP Finder (the users library folder is hidden) 4. Go to the Root Level of HD-> Users/profile (or whatever you called the default template user) and open the users library folder. 5. From the library folder, copy the Preferences folder and the Safari folder (if you configured Safari Bookmarks etc). 6. Browse to System-> Library -> User Template and option+drag the english.lproj folder to the desktop or another backup location. Call the something like english.lproj_orig, (incase you need to start again) 7. Paste the folders copied over from the default user in step 5 into the english.lproj folder in the user template folder. 8. Run Repair disk permissions in disk utility to clear up any "ownership issues" Your new users should now be based on this template, but its good to test before deployment just incase, sometimes this doesnt work for some reason. Sorry if this seems like a bit of a long winded process but its the only one I have got to work on a consistent basis... Hope this helps

Hi Guys, I am currently in the process of creating a 802.1x configuration profile for our wireless system in Mountain Lion server's profile manager. In the past for the small number of clients that ran Lion on their BYOD's I created a User Profile in iPhone Config Utility and that worked really well. In the WIFI tab under Enterprise Settings there was a Authentication Tab where I could specify the username for the connection to the the wireless network and I could specify the identity certificate. But now that the latest batch of School issued MacBook Pros coming in are going to be imaged with Mountain Lion and will be authenticating via open directory over wifi. Something user profiles made with iPhone config utility can't accomplish. So i went to create one in Profile Manager and replicated all the settings from the iPhone config utility file, and I cant seem to find the authentication tab where I specify the WIFI Credentials?!?! I have imported the needed certificates but I can't seem to specify the Authentication settings!!!! I would be most appreciative of a solution.

Also another thing to note is if your Music/Performing Arts faculty uses Pro Tools 8 (This issue doesn't affect later versions apparently). If you install Pro Tools 8 on your image or any Mac running 10.7/10.8, you will corrupt your audio units framework and render GarageBand/Logic or any other program that relies on this framework useless. This didn't happen in Snow Leopard... I suppose people who deployed lion have already dealt with this issue but I thought i'd just keep those who have not deployed Lion and are going from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (like us) in the loop...

I am currently building and testing a Mountain Lion Image for mass deployment, A few machines here have the updated image and it seems to play nicer with the DeployStudio Workflows I have setup, e.g changing the computer name and installing a enrolment profile, whereas I had issues with this in lion. Feels a fair bit snappier than Lion even on Machines with 2GB of RAM. I have also noticed that the System and System Library folders are reverted back to snow leopard behavior and are no longer hidden by default which is a good thing in my opinion.
