  1. Hi All Apologies if this is the wrong area. Posting this as fyi/headsup for others. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this issue? Our finance team noticed a discrepancy on the cash reconciliation from our reval units. After an investigation we figured out the machines were reading £5 notes as £10 notes! Of course no student would alert anyone to the fact they get more money into the system than they have actually put in. Our finance team was unloading the reval units every few weeks rather than daily so as far as we can establish the issue started in October. Over £2500 was wrongly credited to students as far as they have been able to determine. I reported it to Cunninghams who sent an engineer out. All he did was update the firmware and the issue was fixed. The readers were updated in February when the new £20 note came out. I have asked them for a full report but have not had anything back. Anyone else come across this issue?
  2. Just a quick update on this for anyone that comes across this problem like we did today: This method is confirmed to work. (Check that you disable/stop all running Ranger services in step 1, we found at least 1 additional RM service that stopped us from deleting the Ranger files) Local Administrator Logon. 1. Open Computer Management. Go to the services section, find Ranger Network and Ranger Security Monitor and disable them both (Security Monitor first). 2. Delete the Ranger folder from c:\program files and delete the Rngrupdt directory from the root of the c:\. 3. Open registry editor. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Security Software and delete this key. 4. Still in registry editor. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and find the value 'shell' and change the value from 'rgrshsub.exe' to 'explorer.exe' 5. In the same key find the value 'Userinit' and change the value from 'rgrunit.exe' to 'userinit.exe' 6. Reboot the machine.
  3. If its just mindmapping you're after then i'd recommend mindmeister, its online, free (up to 6 maps) and works quite well. Online Mind Mapping and Brainstorming - MindMeister
  4. Ive had a Be account at home for years and recently started using them for my secondary line at work (replaced a 2mb sdsl lin @ £350p.m with a 24 mb service from Be pro @£30p.m) Best ISP i have ever had. Great customer service & they dont lie to you about realistic speeds you should expect. Cant recommend them highly enough esp for home users.

    Server Backup

The sheer amount of data will stop you from backing it all up completely off site. I have a NAS box in a building separate from the main building where the server room is for the bulk of user data, Server system states etc. This is adequate for our needs as it highly unlikely to lose both buildings. We also have tape backups of each server. The more critical data i.e SIMS & Finance Databases etc (5Gb in all) is backed-up off site every night via online backup. I use SDSL's backup services: safedatastorage.co.uk Online Backup - Safe Data Storage Limited[/url] Have found them reliable and very helpful with reasonable pricing. Hope this helps!
