We are in the middle of a similar feasibility study as discoveranother, so far massive savings are to be had by abandoning SIMS. And that's without factoring in the time wasted fighting with Solus 3.

I agree, but in SBB's case it hasn't happened like this has it? The issue has been stated by multiple people multiple times, VERY very clearly. A solution has been promised just as many times by SBB, and yet the problems continue, we were bullied in to Netsweeper on the promise that it would be so much better, the reality of Netsweeper is very different.

Dos_Box, can you be a bit more precise and tell us which bit Mr Tindall was offended by? None of us can see in to the future so discussion of past and present performance of a potential supplier helps us to make informed choices.

A few days ago I configured a remote apps server, it works brilliantly internally and externally. It's very early days and I intended to use Microsoft's grace period while SLT had a bit of a play before we agreed to buy licenses and an SSL certificate. But I was amazed to see how some idiot with too much time found their way in to my server and leave me a message offering the chance to buy bitcoins for them, or something like that. B*rst*ds! So my question is, what is the best way to secure this server, is an SSL certificate the only and best way, along with secure credentials, or can I do more. Right now I'm a little nervous I can easily spin up another VM but how long will it last and how much more damage can they do? Thanks

Thanks for your help Boot3988 But I downloaded the version you suggested and added the 32bit version to my build disk, but without success, we get as far as selecting the build disk and then no further.

Is anyone building HP ProBook 4530s laptops on an RM CC4 network? If so, can you tell me what Win7 64bit NIC drivers you're using in the build disk? I have tried using drivers from the HP site and extracting the drivers from an existing machine with double driver without success. Thanks

Does the CVS import process work for anyone? After attempting verify after verify and being hit with failure after failure and to see if this actually works, I downloaded the sample CSV from the portal, and verified it, guess what, it failed on all 5 sample addresses. What hope have we got of creating 170 addresses? Anyone hitting the same brick wall? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your input dapaulio but I think I might be getting somewhere. I don't think it's a problem with AD or my GPO setting on the server I think it's more to do with the local PC. The reason I say that is because I removed both of my test laptops from the domain then added them both back to the domain. One of them now successfully receives the group policies the other still doesn't, same test user both laptops in the same OU. On the laptop still failing to apply GP I've deleted all details in here %systemroot%\System32\GroupPolicy but without success.

I have an RM CC4 network, and I have some vanilla users and PCs outside of the Establishments OU in an OU at the top of my AD structure. I cannot prevent RM policies applying to this OU and user groups in it even if I block inheritance, how can this be possible? Not only that I cannot get my new policies to apply to my new PCs and users. Yes, I've tried gpupdate /force and /sync Yes, I've looked at RSOP and GPResults which don't seem to even acknowledge the existence of my policies Thanks

I think you've hit that nail on the head there. I worked in the NHS IT dept for a brief spell, it's a very tough environment in which to do a good job, a large assortment of applications and systems, users logging calls and then unavailable for days, buildings that don't lend themselves to good IT installations. My heart goes out to out IT colleagues there. Not forgetting how schools benefit from Microsoft's generous discounts on operating systems means it's easier to stay up to date.

Would it thwart the progress of the ransomware bug if we were to store our data on a Linux server?

Thanks LYB, but all that does is list the names and dates this year. The dates can't possibly be right because another report I ran reveals that a large proportion of our users have NEVER logged on.

If like me you just want to know the number of workstation you have in AD I think it's even easier. In AD, Find > Computers > and enter * And there are all your servers or workstations listed

To explain it over a forum would be a pretty tall order. If it were me I'd remove all VLANs, apart from native VLAN or course, and make sure it's working. You should be able to refer to your old config and apply the same config to the switch and each port manually. Take a printout of the old config to make it easier to follow. Use the GUI if you're not familiar with the commands Add the VLANs one by one, add the VLAN to the switch and then to the ports required. As it's your core you won't have many ports to configure. Presumably you have the the same number of ports to the old switch, 24? I hope this is helping. TL

Would it be too big of a job to re configure the switch from scratch? What are you using the switch for, core? distribution? edge? are you using VLANs? What are you using to configure the switch, command line or GUI? TL
