Just a thought - is it or was it originally wired up as a crossover ?? If it was, you would get these symptoms.

If you want a free one, and have less than 100 users then have a look a SysAid Free Edition We have used SysAid for a number of years and it all works really well. The paid version we use is quite powerful with the added on modules. Not too expensive to buy either.

Hi, we are looking at moving away from our RM CC3.2 network in the next few months to go with a vanilla MS solution using WDS, MDT2010 etc. We will upgrade the servers now to 2008 R2 and their CAL's, so the server side would be covered. The question is has anyone done this migration route, and if so did you have to buy any new licenses to replace the RM clients as we will still be using XP until next summer. We would also like to retain our 'RM Office' application until the OS is updated. Thanks !

If you ping using the fqdn does it resolve to the correct IP(s) from these PC's for the correct exchange server? I dont know your topography but have you tried tracert if you are crossing routers/routing tables to make sure if you are ending up in the right place from these PC's. Do they have any gateway addresses set - possibly from another network segment they may have been on ? Are you splitting the DHCP scope over multiple servers - if so any routers etc set in there. Tried a flushdns/release/renew ? Do you have any DNS errors on your servers, and are they replicating changes ok - are the problem machines all connecting to the same server? Hi all - newbie day for me today so hello !!! I started here as a Network Manager on just over 17k 3 years ago. It is a full time post btw, but I was offered an SO 1-2 grade within 3 months keep me. I basically came here to escape a company from hell, (I was a Systems Admin), and I think they realised I only took it as a temp post. I feel I was offered the grade mainly as they were in very, very deep poo at the time. (That taught them not to give admin rights on the network to ICT Teaching Staff ) Currently I am not quite mid way in my grade and I am on just over 25k - I think it tops out around 32k ish?? Reading this thread, I feel part ashamed and embarassed by posting mine, but also quite f****##g angry at the general pay levels that fellow IT professionals being expected to take. Oh dear - my 1st day and on with a rant already....!! 8O

We have used Sysaid as well for about 18 months and are well pleased with it as it is also fairly customisable. Its open source and we have run it without any problems on everything from NT4 to 2003 server, to Vista. You get 100 user accounts plus 100 network assests, and 2 admin accounts with the free version which just about covers our MIS network for now. You also get built in hardware & software auditing, remote VNC deployment through the client agent, email integration (as mentioned above), monitoring, repair history etc etc... We too are buying it.

Firstly Hello All - this is my first post so please be gentle ! I'd thought I would let you know that some of our users had the same error today following a Westfields SQL 2005 upgrade on Friday. It was the connect.ini path in our case as others have mentioned. We use 2 copies of the same connect.ini files (for the time being) in s:\sims and in s:\sims\sims (dont ask ... 8O !! ), and all the problem was is that we needed to copy the new ini into the second location which still held the old path. I'd do a search in your sims folders for any connect.ini's just to make sure they are all the same (right) version, and everything is pointing to the right places. Good Luck !!
