We have Trilby, it is just finding the best way for busy non-technical staff to update or add content. This might fill the gap for the Catering team

They are probably pretty snowed under with the Affinity release, but they are not great at communicating. Last year it took about 3 weeks to get fully sorted. I contacted their support through their website and got a response from [email protected] that got it sorted.

I did not know about this, that would be very cool for various staff. Thank you!

Xibo, Trilby or any signage solution would do that.

Plantronics were always my go to, the Voyager with a stand, then Poly took them over, and HP took over Poly and they seem to have tripled in price. Currently looking at Yealink. The thing to look at is the tech the headset has. There is one for blocking out ambient sound from the mic (can't remember the tech term sorry), these are fairly ubiquitous now but good to check. The second is ANC, Active noise cancelling, to stop you hearing ambient noise. This is where headsets really start to cost lots and manufacturers sow fud, as they will say they cancel noise, but they mean for the mic not for you. I am in a noisy office and find I am having issues with calls, where I am trying to filter out the voice talking to me over the voices in the room. The people that are talking to me can hear me perfectly and with no background noise.

Done. My answer may not fit though as we are running a BYOD system, so devices are the pupils. So, there is 100% take home of devices when they leave.

Practical Assessments in Job interviews
TechMonkey replied to Danny11616's topic in How do you do....it?
Basics, basics, basics. Don't over think. Most of the practical tests I have had to do or heard about have been simple things that others have gone off and tried to solve with quantum mechanics. Things like check the plug, check connections, while someone else is autopsying the PC and checking soldering joints. If you get stuck don't be afraid to say you don't know, but also explain what you would do to further your knowledge or move the issue on. Don't bluff, you may sneak it past but expect the person interviewing you to know the tricks and spot the bluff a mile off. One thing you could practice is to narrate your actions. Bit like in driving lessons they get you to speak out what you are seeing and doing, give it ago. Don't babble, but being able to clearly and concisely explain what you are checking, what you are doing and why you are doing it, is a skill in itself. Especially if you can do it without technical jargon, or be explaining concepts as you work. Remember, hirers are looking to differentiate between candidates so something that stands out may get the edge on someone else, and proving your communication skills and showing you can break concepts down is a big differentiator. Good luck! -
It will depend on the ability of the systems you have. We have a couple of ways. First is pre-prepared codes given out by reception. They join our standard Wi-Fi and the code is valid for 24 hours from first use. Second is through a guest voucher system that we can delegate out to certain departments to create. They join a special SSID, state they are a guest, enter the code and away they go. Third is a sponsor system where they log on to the special SSID, state they are a guest and pick an email from a list of staff who can authorise guests to jump on. This is all managed by Cloudpath, which is part of the Ruckus eco system.

You can use m365 SSO with Google, so as long as the alias can link I think you would be sorted their. They would sign in with with their M365 credentials and Google would let them in.

This ^. This is, on the whole, a professional forum. I would hope companies would follow the same. Yes, companies do cruddy things and should be taken to task for it. But publishing, publicising and revelling in it does not sit right.

Emails are either not delivered or quarantined/spammed
TechMonkey replied to Ardilluminati's topic in Cloud Services
From your tests to your personal accounts, copy the headers and paste them in to https://mxtoolbox.com/EmailHeaders.aspx and run the analysis. You can either share the link on here or have a look and see if there is an issue. If this is all clear try https://www.mail-tester.com/ which will give you a deeper check on an actual email. If still nothing try https://www.learndmarc.com/ which will take you through step by step the various checks and alert you to anything wrong. -
Ha! Just had a teacher come ask me about this and I was fearful I was going to have to deep dive Teams or OneNote web settings. I'll wait to see a response from MS then.

Same here. Made a strong recommendation to abandon it for the new academic year and I was overruled as "teachers like it and there isn't anything else like it", even though it also is poor at integrating with anything. As usual, shiny shiny wins over practicality and use. Oh and I think I have found only 2 teachers that feel it is worth keeping, one of those is the one that did the overruling.

Universal casting to interactive TVs
TechMonkey replied to CHiLL's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Have you tried if either of the apps work with the other manufacturer? I know there is a lot of overlap of who makes what board, so it maybe the tech is the same underneath. Though there may have been some technological chicanery to prevent this. -
My view would be if they are in public areas then there is no expectation of privacy. If it is not kept secret that audio is recorded then there should be no issue. I mean, SLT aren't going to be scrubbing through the footage trying to pick up conversations are they? All access will be logged so anyone fishing will be obvious. The conversation would not be able to be used in any disciplinary as I'm almost certain your policy will not cover this use. Maybe the staff need to think about being more discreet?

Why is the tax an issue? Go to your site team, or bursar and just say you would like to get branded kit, what do you need to do. We have branded Polo shirts and fleeces, first time I got them through a specific person on site, after that they just told me to go and get them direct.

That's kind of a very broad topic without knowing the issues your org currently has communicating with parents and what systems you use. Your only worry will be if the meeting is pretence for pushing a specific system that someone has already chosen. There are options out there like My School Portal, Frog, FireFly, School Post and many more, that to varying degrees of success give a one stop shop for parents. They log communication (if you use their system for comms) so parents can check back on anything they missed, give links, hold reports and bills, be a payment gateway and can use SSO so parents don't have to remember many logins across differing systems. Usual diligence is required, do they do what you want, is the company a pain once you sign on the line, do they have the features you want, does the school know how it is going to use them and who is in charge both overall and for each section.

No help with providers, but make sure you ask for the voucher or a refund. If they stonewall contact the accreditor (not sure if this would be ITIL direct). Not acceptable and just shoddy practice.

FreshDesk / FreshService - automation questions
TechMonkey replied to timbo343's topic in How do you do....it?
For number 2, I don't think showing the whole thread is possible in the email notification, purely because that isn't the workflow expected. FreshService is meant to be worked in, not worked from emails. So the email is meant to just be heads up for you to go into the system, not a full track of the problem. For 1, yes you are right, Supervisor rules does this, though be careful as I have found that a rule will repeat every time the rules are run. This seems obvious when said but having a reminder sent every hour after the ticket hasn't been responded to is not a desired outcome. So far there isn't a way to tag a ticket as overdue so I had to set the alert to be age between certain hours, which doesn't always trigger. 3. I don't think there is a way to do this as due date is normally linked to SLA, and that can be notified on. The Due date seems to have been added recently and there is a real lag between fields or functions being added and them being useable from automation. 4. No idea I'm afraid, we tend not to use multiple techs, and if someone extra gets added they just see everything. -
UK's first 'teacherless' AI classroom set to open in London
TechMonkey replied to jthompson's topic in IT News
I'd also be interested in what system this is. How many bets the 'AI' is actually just an algorithm programmed to assess and push them on to the next appropriate level? -
What are they trying to do or solve? Most of the solutions are big money. Hootsuite was one of the big dogs when I used to look at this. Free version was great but limited. To use it among a team, so sharing a login and having posts marked with initials, or an audit trail generated, got expensive very quickly. Just had a look and the free version has gone and a Team license (3 users and 20 social accounts) is £249 per month!

Is it failing or warning? Red or Yellow? On mine I have a yellow warning that they will be depreciated. The link in the warning says: So it sounds like it is just a heads up and it will auto remove what is needed

Has Anyone Used Customer Surveys for Feedback on IT Services in Schools?
TechMonkey replied to davuluJohn's topic in IT News
I've done a few. I have the CSAT survey at the end of the tickets as well. Biggest issue is uptake is often pitiful. I had one survey where I got 8 responses, out of 75 teachers. But that can sometimes be due to other things that are going on elsewhere in the school, so Parent Evening week is never a good time, or over the holidays. You have to decide how long to leave the survey open as well. 2 options, either give loads of time, or keep time frames short to pressure people into doing it. Either way, lots of reminders. What you need to do is work out what you want to discover. What key areas are you looking to improve, develop or focus on? Then build questions around those. Make the questions as specific as possible and follow the usual S.M.A.R.T criteria. Try and build a scale that doesn't have a middle option, as that will be what people choose if they aren't sure, but having no middle ground they have to decide to be one side or the other. Try and keep it short and sweet, people are much more inclined to blast a quick survey that they can tick boxes than fill in lots of typing boxes. I always like an open forum box at the end, sometimes gives some good insight, if you need to report on it, a word cloud will pick up any trends.
