BTLS Moving to Netsweeper from Lightspeed

That's great that the solution is accessible to all.... but you know what is better? Not having to do that! Think I'm just salty because of all the complaining I'm having directed at me. -

my other school has governors bringing their own devices in and they can't access internet. I've printed out the insane instructions for OSX and iOS, but I'm not sure how many people will go for a profile being installed on their phone / tablet / machine. I honestly don't understand why they didn't pick a solution that was full transparent proxy. The money saved is probably going to have to be spent on providing extra support for the mess they have made. -

it's from a laptop. Got 2 different kids on 2 different laptops which NetSupport picked up on. I have the machine names and the kids usernames... my IP lease time is 8 hours, so each machine gets a different IP each day. NetSweeper doesn't seem to like that, even though it's totally normal thing to have set up. I've opened a call with BTLS. I want to know how it's happened. I want to know what report to run on Netsweeper, because all the reports I run give me pie charts.... I just want a web activity report based on computer name within the space of a couple of hours. Was EZPZ on Lightspeed.... EDIT: assuming this means he got onto youtube.... or could it be that there was an embedded video in the website? This is on NetSupport.... -

^^ Yeah you can log in beforehand using O365 credentials. I've been perusing my NetSupport today and found that kids have been getting onto YouTube.... no idea how though... also can't seem to find a report on Netsweeper that I can search with computer name.... -

Yeah, that installs the certificate. The only thing I left was the PAC file for the iPads. But you can do it all before the change. Keep an eye out for that MDM setting.... you gotta remember to add your wifi security key in... a few of us didn't and had to re-attached all of our ipads to the wifi! -

just make sure you set the certificate and agent to install NOW before it happens.... then it will just work -

Few issues I'm encountering: - Staff will have no access to anything. The agent appears to have timed out. Logging off and on again resolves. - iPads not getting any access. When logging onto the filter, it appears that the iPad has taken an IP that used to belong to a PC (we have 8hr lease on dhcp) and it sets it to block all. Deleting the client off netsweeper resolves this. - Visitors having to install the certificate. Can't see a way around this.... RIP. -
it's for kids who weren't allowed a switch because it was too expensive. I reckon this will sell well at Christmas. I think it looks great. I won't be buying one though.... I splashed out on a special edition switch and it's not going anywhere soon... (well.... except with me... to places...)

I don't think it was ever that low... think it used to hover in the 70s. I'll do some tests after school and see if there is much difference. -

What I've done is go into URL Tools > URL List Manager. In there I have created a lists called Student Allowed / Student Blocked. Click create list then check the box for either a Deny or Allow list, Then you add the URLs into that list to allow or block. Hope that helps. Give me a shout if you need more deets. -
can we get some f's for cloudflare?

Discovered the "Request Log Files" which shows live data of traffic, thanks to my friend from BTLS. They have a list of apps which they will be sorting out to work through Netsweeper. This includes Target Tracker and Inventry amongst a few others. -

Our Evac app isn't working. I've installed the certificate on the Inventry machine, but something else must be wrong. The ipad with the app also has the certificate and internet access... but it cannot connect to Inventry. Perhaps the website is being blocked? Might help if I checked Netsweeper... and knew where to check.... and knew how to unblock URLs -

I'm not putting the school through an ISP changeover after this... no thank you! Most of the problems have been me not applying the settings correctly. Another problem is the machines not receiving the settings because laptops. Hopefully everything will calm down next week. -

BTLS answer to guest laptops is set them up on a guest network and a seperate IP range.... so I'm playing along and I'm gonna set up a wifi network now and get it to dish out our unused admin range... LET'S SEE! Can't get my old school Ruckus Controller to dish out IP range on a seperate SSID.... thought that would be a thing.... I'm not gonna start VLAN'ing.... nopes. -
