We have been asked to look into this soon to Video Conference with our link school, Do you have to purchase a H.323 Device for this or can you just use any old webcam? Also is polycom PVX one of the better clients?

Just using the default IE Maintenance template to apply proxy and homepage within User Config - Windows Settings - IE Maintenance... Works for students but not for staff, however if the staff run gpupdate it then applies the homepage but still no proxy. No luck with the dll either for us. Back to IE6!

We've had the same problem with deploying IE7, only for Staff accounts randomly... proxy gpo doesn't get applied.

Few issues during our first few days back! hopefully all related to the same problem. Basically in the holidays we attempted to join our AD to OD, and changed the default dc policy to allow this to work. However we cant remember which exact settings we changed (Schoolboy Error!), basically i want to reset it back to how it was, buried in computer config - windows settings - security settings - local policies - security options. Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) Domain Member: Digitally encrypt secure channel data (when possible) Domain Member: Digitally sign secure channel data (when possible) Microsoft network Server: Digitally sign communications (always) Microsoft network Server: Digitally sign communication (if client agrees) So can somebody please let me know what these should be by default on a DC. Secondly would the above changes effect the way clients register to DNS? we have a few random servers with fixed IP's that will not register themselves in DNS. This is the only server side change we have made during the summer. Cheers!

Boo, Am sure we have a Allied Telson Media Converter on 1 end of a fiber cable that simply converts to 100mb ethernet. Why isnt it that simple! The Problematic ones are 'LevelOne' Converters, presume they rely on one each end to work. Poor!

We had fiber installed between our main building to a portacabin some time ago and the chaps that installed it used a media converter at both ends Fiber > Ethernet into switch/device. All working fine. However we now have capacity to plug the fiber run directly into a switch in the main building but this doesn't work? am sure you don't need a converter at both ends? We have installed a fiber run in the same way before with just 1 converter on the end and it was fine, simple fiber to ethernet. Are some different to others in the way they work?

FIXED!! Basically i ran the % dscl /Active\ Directory/All\ Domains -read /Users/"username" command on the client, it reports back that the user macstudent only has a NFS home dir of users/macstudent and no SMB home dir specified. However for the working account it reports back much more info, SMBhome is correct, NFShome is correct loads more info basically. trying this on a few random accounts, Teacher accounts report back correct, everything else wrong! Turned on advanced features in AD and compared the security tabs on the users and Authenticated users need read permissions.

I tried manually adding the macs to WGM but couldn't get policies to work. Just need the mac address when adding the machine? This home drive problem is becoming tedious! Ive got an old teacher test account that i can log on with fine, home drives map \\server\students$\teacher all good, if i copy this account to MacStudent, new home drive folder gets created, doesn't work. if i change the teacher account to use the newly created macstudent home folder, works fine so it cant be any NTFS permissions on the created home folder. if i create a new account rather then copy i still cant get the home drive to show up on the macs. Once logged on if i goto network the server and folder show but it says alias unknown!? however u can manually connect to the smb share fine with the users that don't map home drives. When a non working user logs on under finder/shared/all, the server shows up, and within that it shows students$ but when you click it says The Alias "Students$" could not be opened.... after some googling apparently this a problem with W2003 and SMB shares, for which the fix is Disabled Digitally sign communications (always) in the default domain security policy. Done that.. still doesn't work. The users are members of the same groups in AD, all the info is identical! yet its only this old original account that will connect. i feel like theirs a big tickbox somewhere am completely missing!

Ive already had a scan through similar threads but those fixes don't seem to work for me! Ive been following the guides on setting up OD with AD, DNS is all setup and looks to be working. I can add AD students to an OD group and assign MCX preferences successfully, however i cant assign preferences based on AD computers in an OD group.. Should the Client show up in OD when you add it to the directory? And i cant get the users home drives to appear, Ive worked out DFS isn't supported, and Ive tried various fixes regarding permissions for students. From the Mac i can manually connect via an SMB://Server/Share/username route. Other then starting the whole lot again is there anything simple i can check? Cheers

FIXED!! Abit of intense googling found a fix, incase anybody runs into this problem.. You have to change the hdd mode in the bios from auto to LBA

Used fog yesterday to multicast a suite of identical pc's. Out of 26 only 2 successfully booted to windows after the task completed, the others just say error loading operating system. I've just deployed the image to a single pc and it still doesnt work. Any ideas? Image must be fine, worth trying a remote wipe of the hdd first maybe? Thanks

We've just got a Mac Mini and OSX Server to do exactly this with 26 macs. Not had chance to play with it yet, managed to get OSX installed on it but only via the upgrade option, couldn't boot from the CD. Let me know how you get on!

Another vote for the Dell Optiplex Systems, just purchased another batch of the 760's USFF unit, monitor stand can be screwed to the desk, pc mounts on the back of the stand securely and the side cover stops kids unplugging things randomly as they love to do!

have you changed the SATA mode in the bios? these new laptops all use AHCI mode and ghost doesn't like it!

Could try his HDD into a same model laptop as the one he dropped, might boot normally and sync!?

Yeah DHCP is fine, like i say it boots PXE fine.. shows the fog logo and then stops at the command prompt for a few seconds, if you dont type anything it just boots from the hard drive.

You might have to change the Sata compatiblity mode in the bios from AHCI to ATA

Just having a play with FOG, PXE boot doesnt bring up a menu option as it appears it should? get a boot prompt, typing fog.reg works.. but wheres the menu! tried typing just fog but that just saying loading for ages and then says failed!

I wont be at the Discovery Day unfortunately.

Is the 7110 4TB providing enough storage for everyone? We are trying to work out what size San we need based on currently having 1tb of data spread across servers, and with visualization in mind a 4TB san would nearly be at capacity? doesn't seem like a future proof option, especially as its not expandable?
