I'm actually looking to have all 3 instances as individual CC4 machines. We have 2 clean machines atm, one for WinXP and another for 7 and a 3rd for general use, however I'd like to consolidate them if possible seeing as we only ever need to use 1 at a time. Unfortunately the CC4 build seems to want to reformat every other partition upon build, hence the separate partitions can be made, but previous installs are lost with each new build session. Smart clienting may be the one viable option but faffy and I was somewhat hopeful they would be an easier way!

I am looking to try and create a workstation that features multiple instances of Windows (ideally 3 partitions - 1 being XP and 2 being Windows 7) however I haven't tried setting up a dual booting setup on CC4 so not too sure how this is best achieved.. if at all. I want the machine to have 3 independent Windows operating systems that are selectable when the computer powers up however RM support inform me this has "not been validated" and thus offer no help or advise at all. Anyone here tried it with success or could advise if I am wasting my time trying?

Set baud to 9600 but alas the same problem of a blinking cursur and nothing else. Have tried on a different computer too though the same issue.
-
Tried both, neither seem to be doing the trick. Well the buttons are physically broken it seems (pushed in) though I am always wary of opening up switches that otherwise are working ok I'm not sure how i'd report it though as the fault would seem more a case of config than anything else, and the buttons are user damage. I'm pretty sure I am doing everything right on the console.. hyperterminal says connected at the bottom but I don't know if this is a misnomer seeing as there is just a flashing curser without any of the procurve intro stuff and nothing can be typed in.. most odd..

2600-8-PWR.. not sure how looping 2 ports would help though? Tried 1200, 2400 and 4800 to no avail, though it says it should auto detect and the lower bauds seem to be more likely from what I have read.
-
Already tried doing that before, even with the cable plugged in.. just nothing and I have checked the settings are correct..
-
Bought a second hand procurve switch which generally seems to work (been fine the last few months) however initially I noticed certain ports would not work (they'd flash but no communication), so my guess was they were on a vlan or disabled so i'd sort it during the summer when I would factory reset it. Problem is, the buttons on the front are broken and I can't get the console port to connect either (hyperterminal or putty).. brand new serial cable, so can't even do it that way. Need some suggestions!

Thing is we have a very low budget so touchscreens or any projector into the £300s is not realistically achieveable. The projector itself unfortunately is positioned above a cooker, alas not directly above but close enough (middle of the room, cooker just below offset by about 1/3 metre). If there were several others saying they use standard, unprotected projectors in food tech rooms without issue then i'd feel more confident, but the responses here hasn't filled me with confidence
-
We figured if they'd gone to this effort and expense in the first place to protect it then there must be a reason.. do normal projectors still cover the standard warranty even if the environment is less than ideal? We're not too fussed about fat particles flying around really or even having to wipe it down every now and then, but rather the issue of smoke and whether that could be harmful if left unprotected..
-
When our food tech room was refurbed in Summer 06, they installed a Mitsubishi SL6U projector mounted in a CEP3 smoke box (basically just a sealed enclosure with front and rear fans for ventilation) - we weren't consulted with this so couldn't check alternatives. It's been gradually getting worse over the years like most other projectors around school, nearly all of which we are replacing with EB-X11s. The issue with this Mitsubishi is that the smoke box seems to only fit this type of projector that we're aware of, and we don't fancy spending the money on a new lamp for a projector which is already 7 years old, has native low resolution, low lamp brightness and much lower lamp life than modern projectors. We either need to look at sourcing a Mitsubishi projector that is newer but also compatible (likely not possible as we fear this is the only model compatible with this enclosure), or figure out a way we can use an Epson in this type of setting; Epson have confirmed to us they don't supply anything like this though that doesn't mean to say there aren't compatible smoke boxes which could serve a similar purpose. Anyone been in a similar situation or could advise how best we go forward with this?

You do realise this thread is over a year ago so the OP likely has since done the upgrade? FWIW, 1.7 to 2.5 is nothing like 1.5 to 2.5 - 1.7 is actually on the same backend as 2.5 so the upgrade is seamless, whereas 2.5 is a complete rewrite compared to 1.5 and requires a "migration" (whereby a new 2.5 site will be created from scratch and articles, data, modules etc will be copied over and installed individually). I used jupgrade for our site and it took about a week to get it to upgrade, then a further couple of days to get it tweaked, templates fixed, modules updated etc.

Our's hasn't been capped.. not when the price doubled! Rich, would you mind sending me a PM with your experience moving away and how you found the process, anything to be aware of etc?

erm.. P4 3Ghz in the Library and 1.8ghz-2.6Ghz Core 2 Duos in the ICT Suites =\ Though we were lucky to get auth to buy 5x HP Pro 4300 from Misco because they had a cashback offer on. Otherwise we're not exactly at the forefront of technology! We are however experts on purchasing refurb and used

Quality diag pages did show issues with black and small issue with cyan, but none the less changed both and now it's fine. I guess I just assumed it was a more complex issue but glad it really was as simple as that

Just had our renewal through.. almost double (95% increase) on the broadband costs.. already looking at alternatives!

Haven't got any spares for this (we only buy as and when needed), however the toner powder is clearly actual cyan in colour thus I guess something is happening in the printer to make it go darker (or it's mixing with the black). I can see on the blends that it's distorted towards the right which is where the black also fades too, but why would the yellow need any black at all? I don't want to go out and buy new toner (which we can ill afford) if the issue lies elsewhere, and hoped maybe someone with perhaps some decent knowledge of printers (or this model) could offer some diagnostic suggestions?

We didn't contact backup assist as all info we read (even on their own site) does suggest needing to install a fresh OS first then recover, perhaps in this scenario that would perhaps mean restore to a secondary HDD. Fortunately, we were able to (by some miricle) clone the failing HDD onto a new one with just the boot sector/files not copying/corrupt, so recreating MBR etc and some hair pulling later we managed to get up and running using this approach (so we didn't even need to use the backup in the end)! Suffice to say, we may look at what backupassist v7 offers with regards to better handling or bare metal and disaster recovery!
-
Thing is it happened (with the black) on the previous toner which we changed when it was still at 40%, yet it doesn't seem to have improved, so I am leaning towards another issue but these printers are so large I wouldn't know where to start looking or what to check/try first!

It's fortunately not one of our main domain controllers (which all run on RAID so the hot spare would just kick in), but rather our intranet server which is a simple ML115 with a single HD so not mission-critical but still we hold stuff on there that is causing some inconvenience! All our servers bar 1 run on tape (the exception is the latest which uses RDX). It would cost too much for us to replace the tape system with something newer.. money we simply haven't got, and especially considering there would have to be an actual explosion to cause this level of suffering on the other servers. We use version 6 with the zip-to-tape addon on Svr2008 which runs a full backup daily (as there isn't really a whole lot on there). Alot of info for backupassist quite annoyingly does refer to v7 with the previously stated BMR and recovery option, neither of which we can use. Whilst we have reinstalled the base OS and can get the tape to be read, it doesn't help that we can't just restore within Windows given that the Windows OS is running at the same time, as is system state (which obviously is expected). What we are going to try, if our luck will allow, is to disk clone the old one onto a new one (which could go either way as it only detects the HDD in the bios after a few reboots and is unstable even then), so the only other thing we could think of failing that is installing the new HDD as a slave to the new windows install and try and recover from tape onto that, but again no idea if this would actual restore it as-it-was (including boot sectors etc).
-
Can't see anything specific like this? This is for a backup image, whereas on tape it's just written as-is..
-
For a full OS and system state recovery?

Got a HP Colour laserjet 5550 which when printing photos (which blends toners) they don't look right at all. I did a test page with single colours and blends and the output was as attached. Single colours print fine (although the cyan is darker than it should be), yet further down the bottom, the blends look nothing like they should! In order, it should be cyan-magenta, cyan-yellow, magenta-yellow. The black is a bit faded towards the right but I am not worrying about that too much for now. Obviously yellow is fine as it prints as expected on it's own bit looks orange on the blend. Is there something that needs to be done or a reason this could be happening? I have reset printer to defaults in case someone had faffed with it but to no avail!

So, it's happened.. server hard drive gone poop! Got tape backups done via backupassist (which in turn does it via it's own zip-to-tape module), however despite alot of googling and time wasted, we're still no closer to figuring out how we can/should actually recover the the full system to a new HDD from the tape. We tried to add the drivers for the Sony AIT drive when booting into the Windows installation and selecting full pc restore, but despite finding a list of drivers to choose from, none of these associated with the drive and allowed the drive to be selected. Where are we going wrong, and is there an actual procedure to restore server 2008 from tape?

That's the thing though, it is very unreliable with our cheaper cards and sometimes will work for 30mins then drop, other times work for 10secs and more often simply not connect/recognise at all. I just wanted to know if there was a particular reason why we NEED to use more expensive firewire cards, as I thought firewire was all the same regardless?
-
Noone knows then?
