  1. Sorry put it in the wrong section, should have been "Enterprise Software"
  2. I have a weird one for you all. Using an LTO drive on a remote agent machine. Installed media, ran inventory, found it was a used tape from other software so marked it as free. When that had finished I went into the properties of the tape to label it and also move it into a Media Pool. I have a backup job that takes mirrored data and creates a full backup to the tape, the issue is when the job starts on its schedule it hangs, create a brand new tape with a new id and sits in an unidentified media pool hanging the backup. If I then move that newly created tape into the selected media pool the job then continues. Why would it create brand new media when I have already ran an inventory, it has identified the tape and I have set it to the correct media pool. Any ideas on how to fix this??
  3. Thank you Smithson83, that sounds very interesting and positive. I'll look into that one :-)
  4. Thank you Snagrat, We also have the year group in our team. Is this something that you have done before? I'm always weary of running scripts that do things in bulk (so want to be 100% sure that it's not going to be destructive beyond intention) although I've been doing some searching around forums.
  5. Thank you Pete, Although Salamander does a great job (and no disrespect to them), unfortunately I've been advised by their support that they are unable to delete or archive any of the old teams.
  6. Hi, I expect that there are a few schools in the same situation. We have automated creation of our Teams in M365 (Classes from our MIS - Sims.net) via Salamandersoft (Using Microsoft SDS) which works great. We would like to have a way of housekeeping and removing old teams in bulk (due to the amount of teams, it is not quick or feasible to manually delete these one at a time). Ideally, we'd only keeping a +1 year. Has anybody had any experience of this or a successful solution in place? Many Thanks, Adrian
  7. Thanks Koldov, The immediate affect is mainly 31 Windows Computers in total for using lightroom (although we do have others with this Adobe software on but those are not critical for Lightroom - mostly photoshop). I think the only way that Lightroom Classic could work is with class based memory sticks that gets handed out and collected in (I.E. student plugs in memory stick, creates or copies a catalogue across from their network drive, does the work and then copies it back off of the USB when finished). My worry with all of this is that even though we have our security protection, there is so much potential for data to get lost of deleted and these open writable spaces in the instances of a partition would create problems. Adobe do some amazing products but in this instance and whilst they acknowledge the problem which has been reported by a number of educational establishments, they are unable to help (apart from saying give them access to C: or memory sticks) and can not give a timeframe for resolution. The knock on effect of these design problems this is that it leaves me unable to provide an acceptable solution. Thanks, Adrian
  8. Thanks Colly72, I did see another tread on Edugeek which may have been the predecessor to your one along with alot of other stuff on the internet. Your thread mirrors our situation and I can completely relate to your frustrations. It's so disappointing that Adobe offer two Lightroom products in their K12 education bundle which do the exact same thing and yet both sustain problems so severe that one of them does not work at all and the other can operate but needs a nasty workflow. The cost, workflow, potential for problems and weakened security of using memory sticks or even setting up local partitions is just a huge step backwards. I've had the exact same situation with our photography using the statement of we need this - it's "industry standard" as you mentioned in your thread. I completely appreciate their requirement so that they can do the course. At this moment in time the only solutions I have to offer is Class based USB sticks (in which they copy a catalogue too and from their network drive) or a completely different Lightroom alternative (surely Industry Standard is about achieving the objective with a tool to do the job rather than a specific brand?). I'm sure I'm repeating a few things that you've already said but thanks for your reference to your thread. When you say you never implemented Lightroom, do you mean that you choose a completely different product? Many Thanks, Adrian
  9. Hi, Just wanted to follow up on this to see if anybody had any thoughts or were even in the same boat? It would not be so bad if we could buy the Adobe Cloud Storage meaning that Adobe Lightroom CC would work however our K12 Educational License does not allow for us to buy this option. Many Thanks, Adrian Richards
  10. Hi, Just reaching out for help / thoughts please. We have the latest Adobe K12 Cloud Subscription package and through product design, Adobe have made it very difficult for us to use the Lightroom products. I'll break it down into key points... -We can not use Adobe CC as we get an "Access Denied" and the reason for this is that we don't have Adobe Cloud storage in our subscription so Adobe tells us to use Lightroom Classic. -Lightroom Classic prompts for end users to create or select a catalogue file before they can use it however, through software design, Catalogue files can not be accessed or created on network drives which is where students store their data. -For security reasons we don't permit access to C: drive and whilst student's could use USB sticks, we'd have to buy a load of them in and it creates a poor and undesired workflow + storage of data (even if we ask them to sideways copy the file to their network home folder). -Adobe support confirms that the issue of not being able to save catalogue files to network drives has been reported several times by different customers of which has been passed onto their R&D dept but no ETA for it being changed (if at all). Please may I ask, What are people doing to combat this? Any thoughts or help much appreciated, Many Thanks, Adrian Richards
  11. Hi Asgard, Thank you for your feed back and taking the time to reply. Sounds like you’ve had a real time of it as well. Interesting point and impact regarding opening the PDFs, I could see that being a problem for us as well. It seems that Adobe have failed to provide a solution to a problem that they have created and to add insult they’ve falsely labelled it as SSO. Maybe they should call it “Adobe Single Sign On x2” (ASSOx2). We’re going to have to swallow this like yourselves and many other sites but I’m going to be sending in my feed back to Adobe. I just hope that they will get something sorted (who knows when) as actually, the software suite its self is awesome and it would be in their interest to get this right for use in education. These relating articles might be of interest to yourself or anyone although you may have seen them already... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/204493-adobe-cc-automatic-sign.html https://community.adobe.com/t5/enterprise-teams/federated-id-how-can-we-tell-acrobat-dc-to-sign-users-in-automatically-sso/td-p/10248927?page=1 https://soundmacguy.wordpress.com/2019/02/01/adobe-shared-device-licensing-answers-to-questions-you-probably-didnt-want-to-ask/ Thanks, Adrian
  12. I work in the I.T. Support dept of secondary school with 800+ students. Adobe have made using their product more difficult to access for schools and establishments by introducing SDL (Shared Device Licensing) and this has been out for alittle while now. What this means is that whilst the software is licensed to a device, End users are still required to manually authenticate with an ID whereas before under the Device License model, all end users had to do is open the software and use it which is how it should be in a teaching and learning environment. The idea of SSO (Single Sign On) is that you login once and that any relevant sub systems/software are aware of that and won’t bother you for credentials. I’m giving my full perspective here and not meaning or intending to teach anyone to suck eggs as there are a lot of respectful technical minds here on edugeek. So what have I done so far?... I’ve configured and synchronised our Azure Active Directory users as Federated IDs which now exist in our Adobe Cloud agreement – pretty easy. I’ve looked at the profile and general settings – pretty easy. I’ve created and downloaded packages for OSX and Windows environments and done good few mac deployments using ARD (Apple Remote Desktop). I’ve logged into the software manually with some test accounts. Now this is the crux of it and a lot of people seem to be in the same boat. I’ve not found “anything” solid that gives instruction on direction with regard to configuring SSO in our environment (Particularly around Apple Macs which is where we mainly use Adobe Apps for our lesson delivery in photography). I want students to be able to sign into a station, and then the adobe authentication happens automatically when they open the software – not a big ask. I’ve read a lot of bits and pieces about SAML 2.0, IDPs, Certificates but there is nothing solid. I’ve contacted Adobe support and they clearly state that they don’t have a solution and it’s something that isn’t supported but, they are very insistent that the new licensing model is much better. Well, it just isn’t for schools. Sure if I’m personally using the software then it doesn’t bother me too much but expecting each class of 30 students to type in their full email address and password eats away at their precious learning time and some do struggle more than others. Any thoughts, advice, feedback or shared experiences would be much appreciated. Many Thanks, Adrian Richards
  13. Hi, this May or may not be related but we are experiencing an issue which we think might be to do with the impero client on our apple macs. We run 10.9 Mavericks across about 50 macs authenticating to AD and getting general apple settings via an Open Directory Mac Pro Server - profile manager. We are having serious occurrences of our all of our Apple Mac Clients not being able to connect to the internet. This has happened about 3 or 4 times recently but we have been trying to identify what is causing the problem. Here is a break down of facts that I know from when this happens: -This morning we lost internet connectivity on the macs. The Mac Server Logs and Health Status was fine. -I restarted the mac server and then the stations then the internet worked again fine. -This only affects our Mac clients, all Windows PC clients work fine. -When this happens, the mac clients can still access other network features such as SMB shares -All of our mac and windows clients connect straight to our LEA internet provider (South West Grid for Learning) with the addition of an onsite LightSpeed Rocket Filtering Server for monitoring traffic and blocking where necessary (LightSpeed is not acting as a proxy Server). -The Lightspeed Internet Filtering shows that during the time of the problem, sites had not reached it to be allowed or blocked etc. -Our teacher uses Lan View software on their teacher mac (Used for lesson control). This in its self can stop and enable internet access. I’ve tested this and it does not seem to be causing a problem as I got the teacher to test it when the macs were working again (Disable internet for stations and then Enable it again). We've used Lan School for a long time with no issues. Although this is now working again (for the moment), the impact that it has on our lessons is very high if they happen to be using the internet in the lesson. In addition, I had managed to get abit of time on one of the affected computers that had not been restarted. This computer had both Fire Fox as well as Safari and they both wouldn’t load any internet web pages, they just got stuck in a routine of looking for an internet connection with the blue bar going across the top of the browser but nothing happened. I know that on this machine, both browsers normally work. Due to administration restrictions I couldn’t see any network settings in Safari however when I went to Firefox it said that I was connecting through “system proxy settings” -(this isn't right since we don't use a proxy server). I changed this to No Proxy and also auto detect connection and this works fine. It looks like something (likely impero, is changing the setting for some reason). It's almost like something is forcing a change on the internet settings. Any thoughts or anyone with the same problem? Thanks, Adrian Richards Humphry Davy School
  14. Hi, I did find out what was causing the problem. It is one that had me going in circles for a bit. RM didn't know the answer either, they kept blaming the sound card drivers. It actually turned out to be RM Tutor 5 that was causing the problem and it wasn't simply a preset or option in the software that disables the sound. When the RM Tutor teacher console was running then several stations at random could not unmute their sound. If I closed down RM tutor on the teacher PC and the everything works fine, start up again and problems return immediately but at random - sometimes as little as 3 computers will be affected and other times a good quantity of the 32 stations. Although it was "not" relevant on this occasion, it's also always worth keeping an eye on the RM CC4 Software Updates page, installing all of the latest important and critical updates as I have had different issues in CC4 in the past that become apparent as a common problem when I visit the updates page as RM have released a fix https://www.rm.com/support/technicalarticle.asp?cref=tec1255704 Hope this helps, Adrian Richards :-)
  15. I've downloaded the blueprint for Open Office 3.3.0 and have an *.exe installer for this version but the blueprint needs an *.msi file. Anyone know where I can download this from please? Shame I can't get this from the open office website. I got the *.exe from Old Version Downloads - OldApps.com
  16. We have a suite of apple macs that our students use. These operate authenticate/operate via active directory and open directory on our network. It is a problem that we are having and this when a user logs and adjusts the volume level using the keyboard then it makes a blipping and popping sound (which is what is supposed to do). Now imagine 30 macs with 30 students doing this during a lesson and it can be quite frustrating for the teacher as they are quite loud. We know that the setting can be disabled on the administrator user or for individual users but there does not seem to be a way to apply it as a standard policy across all of the computers. This is what we have done so far... -Our supplier company are apple authorised experts and have drilled down into core of the system and not found a way to solve the problem. -We know that if you plug in headphones or jack connector then it disables the main speaker. -Apple does not think that it’s a big enough issue to warrant an investigation at this moment in time. -If you disable this as a local admin then it only affects that user. -I have suggested replacing the file with a blank audio file but this is not possible as it is embedded to far in the system. Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated, Thanks, Adrian
  17. In preparation for the Summer 2012 Sims Upgrade, Solus 3 is still Proving to be unreliable. After I scheduled the deployment of Solus3 3.4.118.0 for last night, I came in this morning to find that it had failed stating that “Tolrance not met for target Solus 3 Database, Deployment Stopping" (with the exception of the “S3 Hotfix for Target Discovery” which was successful). I made sure that all of the solus 3 agents were left powered on overnight. Going back to March 2012 we had the same problem with Solus3 3.4.107.1 and after I could not find what the problem was, our LEA MIS support team took over in an attempt to get this sorted and they could not get the problem fixed whilst consulting with capita so they manually installed an MSI of the update. Ruling out other possible issues, our network and stations are healthy. We’ve had issues and relibility problems with solus 3 ever since integration. Unsurprising capita had withdrawn their summer 2012 upgrade which is available again but this seems to a normal process with each upgrade. It just seems to be a very unreliable product. Anyone else had the same issue or any thoughts regarding this? Thanks for reading, Adrian
  18. Has anybody been experiencing intermittent problems with the volume control on the taskbar for student accounts that use Windows XP stations on RM CC4 Networks? We are experiencing problems across several ranges of computers including HP and Dell stations. These are the symptoms etc: -Volume control is muted -Sometimes you can un-mute the volume but when you move the volume slider it mutes the sound again -It works fine as an administrator account -If you log the student out and reset their profile, sometimes this fixes the problem and sometimes the volume will mute again when you move the slider as above. -The latest and correct sound drivers are installed on the stations -The problem does not relate to particular stations The worst thing about this issue is that the problem is unpredictable and we can find ourselves in a situation where half of a class is affected and the other half is fine. I have reset all student after school had closed but this has not fixed the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks, Adrian Humphry Davy School Penzance Cornwall
