  2. I took it as a joke as per the ops intent
  3. Blimey calm down I wasn't having a go and the op didn't say he's needle phobic he said he's never had it done I was trying to reassure him without adding anything else to worry about. it's not really painful, phobias aside of course. I wasn't belittling your opinion sorry if it came across that way but not all drugs work on everyone and if you're that scared the adrenaline was probably countering it's affect or you were expecting the unpleasant experience so your brain filled in the gaps or it doesn't work on you for some reason. Most dental anathestic don't work on me at all I have to have the old school stuff it's just the way we're all different. Something like 5% of the population don't have the ability to process codeine into morphine so those painkillers don't work on them Horses for courses n all that glad you get on alright with the gas. You'll be fine op if you're really worried about the cannula ask the anaesthetist about alternatives but barring needle phobias they're not painful really and once it's in its just a bit of plastic there's no needle left in
  4. It didn't work in your experience I've had it before it's supposed to be applied then covered for at least 30 mins it's not instant. If you're scared of needles the cream ain't gonna help anyway. Anyway point is its not painful unless your pain threshold is really low it's less painful than say stubbing your toe. Not everywhere gives u the option of gas the wife wasn't. It'll all be fine anyway they look terrifying but once it's in the needle part is taken out and all that's left is a plastic tube into a vein. The worst bit imho is pulling the plaster off taking it off lol. When I was dehydrated in hospital it took them 8 goes to get one in I had holes everywhere just had to laugh
  5. Dodgy contact inside with the lamp which breaks contact when the thing has warmed up sufficiently? I'd try taking the lamp out and reseating it, if you haven't already

  8. A Cannula is much much less painful than injection at the dentist, they just look scary bits of kit so don't look and you'll be ok they really don't hurt. If you're really worried about the pain of a cannula they can always give you some Emla cream (think thats what it's called) that numbs the area, they might do that for you. I've had dozens of these now and I don't even flinch when they do em now. You're allowed to eat and drink normally up until midnight the day before the op then absolutely nothing until after the op
  9. We live in a bungalow but there are steps up from the car park, she managed steps just took it slowly. I don't think you'll have too much of a problem doing stairs just be prepared for a bit of discomfort and take it slow, esp when you first get home after being knocked out, last thing you want to do is fall over. Cannulas don't really hurt, well no worse than having a blood sample taken and I don't notice those anymore either, what hurts more is they use a large piece of sticky plastic to hold it on and if you have hairy hands it hurts when they whip it off (shave back of hands first maybe lol). I would try to minimise any heavy lifting and if you have to to make sure all the weight is on your knees not back and abdomen. FWIW the wife healed pretty quick and although it gave her some twinges still after a few days it was no more painful than if you'd fallen over and gotten some nasty bruising. Definitely make sure they give you some painkillers to take home, you dont want to be in pain after hours and need to see out of hours GP to get some. 30mg of codeine should make you feel nice and warm without knocking you out, so 500/30 Solpadol or 30mg of dihydrocodeine is what you want to ask for if you get the chance. You may not need them but just in case. Cannula is also used as a line in if anything happens, so they may still put one in even with gas and air don't know about that but just dont watch while they do it and it wont hurt so much, i've had about 20 of them in past 6 months from various hospital visits
  10. I'd ditch the site you have and redo the whole thing using a CMS like Wordpress. The wife is a graphic designer and does a fair few websites and she does everything in Wordpress using bespoke templates/Themes. You can use a free blog at Wordpress whilst you play and once you're ready to create your own you can install your own copy of Wordpress on your own domain, you can leave the current site in place by installing wordpress into it's own folder say Home\wp and then when you've finished it setup a redirect to point people accessing the page to the index.html in the wp folder. Sounds harder than it really is but its still a order of magnitude easier than trying to create a website in Dreamweaver or picking someone elses code apart. Few links to help: Learn WordPress.com WordPress Tutorial - How To Create A WordPress Site The wife taught herself how to use it and I did all the techy stuff, my hosting company actually provides a 1 click installer with Softaculous so installing and setting up a MySQL DB is done for you. Apologies if that's not what you were looking for. I've not done my SQL stuff myself (CMIS aside) but managed to deal with all this stuff and it can produce some really nice sites and the best bit is updating them is done in a Word style interface so any idiot can do it (teachers aside lol). Another brilliant feature is all the plugins/widgets you can use, you can add an RSS feed in seconds. You can even change the whole look of the site with a few mouse clicks to activate a new theme etc
  11. Wife had this done after a hernia caused by C section. She had the keyhole surgery. They didnt let me in the hospital told me to clear off until 5pm (when they close that bit of hospital as there's no inpatients). On her letter it said bring your own pain relief. Now I don't want to worry you but if they try that on demand something prescription only as wife was in a fair bit of pain afterwards. At the very least you want to ask for 500mg/30mg Co-codamol Good luck it'll be worth it in the end. Friend didn't have an op on hers as she has a heart condition and they refused to operate and now she has more out than in and is on morphine and they're going to have to operate but now it's major surgery instead of the easy fix Do NOT do any work, seriously bed rest. Im assuming they're going to use the mesh method to repair your hernia you don't want to get up (even sitting upright) straight away, just take the time out and chill I had the sedation for a gastroscopy recently and it put me right out (not supposed to) but that Diazepam hit me for six and I went the next 2 days feeling so ill I was telling the wife to put a pillow over my head, so whenever you're having something like anesthetic you need to rest after
  12. TBH if it were me i'd stick it somewhere safe and forget about it, it's unlikely to take up much space in the grand scheme of things
  13. I'd have thought a min of 6 years but that's just a guess
  14. What I did in the past was to see what I liked from Graze and then make my own up after buying the bits in largish quantities from somewhere like Julian Graves or Real Foods: Fairtrade, Organic, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Wheat-Free and Special Diet Food Store Edinburgh, Scotland and online web shop with free delivery UK Natural Healthy Ethical Shopping Loads cheaper than Graze boxes in the long run
  15. You could do worse than going to whoever provides the ISDN (BT?) and get them to run some line tests if it's BT and there is a fault the line will magically start working despite them not finding a fault. At least thats a no cost option to start with

    Baby Gate

We used these Buy Lindam Extending Metal Safety Gate from our Stair Gates range - Tesco.com Failing that if a taller one would do it buy a dog gate, we have one for the GSD to keep her away from the front door
  17. I really resent paying the same council tax as other areas when we have NO facilities not even street lights (not that I want them I enjoy looking at the stars) but the only service we get is bins being emptied and there's 4 of us 2 adults 2 kids and a german shepherd dog and we never run out of room with our 2 bins (rubbish and recycling) Second home owners should pay quadruple council tax! I'd also quadruple tax people who can't show empathy and put themselves in someone elses position and those who read the Daily Mail although that's arguably the same group
  18. Cutting taxes when they claim we need more cuts because we're still in the do do isn't very clever and blatantly vote buying or are you claiming otherwise as i'd be interested in where you're coming from What i'd like to ask them is why when their pay body comes back and says MPs need an 11% payrise theres literally nothing they can do to stop it yet when another independant body says nurses should get a 1% pay rise it's oooh we can't afford that. All governments lie and twist things but this government is vile and spiteful trying to turn us against each other (ie immigration, europe and benefits) I'd also like to ask how much has the spare room subsidy actually cost the country because I can't see it having saved any money by forcing people out into more expensive private rents as there's no smaller social housing available. Why the government has not stopped the social rent escalator which is above inflation and directly increasing housing benefit costs, why there are thousands more people working on benefit fraud (which is tiny in money terms) and only hundreds dealing with companies dodging taxes, why the government aren't collecting figures on deaths after disability benefits were withdrawn, the number of suicides driven to do so by aggressive benefit sanctions. Don't get me wrong i'm not blinkered I don't think Labour are much better and the Lib Dems are going to be done as a party next year, voting elsewhere is effectively wasting your vote (depending on where you live obviously), UKIP they're just the Tories that hate Europe, Green party too marginal so short of big changes to democracy what else do you do? Immigrate? LOL
  19. Oh well worth a go, for what its worth we had a few of them for a couple of weeks on trial with our Ruckus system and didn't come across any problems. Is your Ruckus firmware up to date?
  20. You haven't got the tablets set to power down the wifi when the screen goes off have you?
  21. Of course it was positive he's buying votes Personally if they're predicting austerity for longer i'd have thought it would be more sensible to leave things alone but of course that's not politically astute
  22. I have no real hopes for this budget, it's being produced by someone so detached from how the rest of us live that he has no idea what his policies do to us. Same with most of them in all the other departments too the old Eton chums never done a hard days work in their lives and never got a job without family stepping in (yes im looking at you Cameron) and that's across all the parties not just Tory bashing. I'd like them to scrap the social housing rent escalator as each year the rent goes up by RPI + 0.5% + £2 per week which isn't great for those that pay their rent but the other year when inflation was at 5% we got slapped silly and bearing in mind how many people in social housing are claiming housing benefit it's just a scheme for them to hammer the government for more money, cap it to 1% until the economy recovers same as my wage rises are capped to 1% Any tax cuts are just going to be a sweetener for the upcoming election trying to bribe their way back in. How many promises were broken this time? No plans to increase VAT No intention of shutting Surestart centres There's a lot of them, that's if you can find them after Camerons little "tidy up" on their website LOL. Anyway I shall stop there before I need to drag the soapbox out. I'll be voting Labour next time round, not because they're the answer but because they're the only party with a chance of keeping the damn tories out.
  23. I love my Xperia Z1 now I can go back to reading in the bath via Kindle app. Plus can take it to the beach film the kids running in/out of the sea etc without worrying that one of the little darlings will throw a bucket over me. I think the camera is good, it's better after the recent updates (not kitkat yet!) certainly much better than the S2 and S3 love the motion shot software that Sony supply I shot some images of the eldest going down a big slide at Bewilderwood and you get one image of the slide with dozens of images of his journey down in and the expression on his face just LOL. Personally I think we're getting to (gotten to??) the point where pixel density is irrelevant whats really holding it back now is the optics there's only so much you can do with such a small sensor and tiny lens
