  1. I've been banging my head against a weird Smart Notebook problem for a couple of weeks now, and having just solved it, wanted to share my findings in case it proved useful to anyone. The problem was that when loading up Smart Notebook, we were getting the following error message: "Smart Notebook software was unable to load the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 client profile", with prompts to reinstall .NET 4. Reinstalling .NET, for the record, made no difference. It was only doing it for one user, and despite not having roaming profiles in place, was affecting said user on multiple computers, even after having reimaged one. After a lot of trawling about on the web, and doing side-by-side comparisons of user profiles on the same laptop that DIDN'T have the problem, I found that the custom.xml file in My Documents\SMART Notebook was showing as 0Kb for the affected user, but 5Kb for any other user not having the problem. Replacing the 0Kb file with the 5Kb file fixed the issue, with Smart Notebook now loading up fine. The reason it'd been affecting the user was that their files are held centrally with folder redirection in place. Apologies if this doesn't come as news to most people, but it took me ages to find the solution, so I'd thought I'd be nice and share
  2. I'm hoping someone can shed some technical light on a question I have. One of my schools is, rightly or wrongly, currently using iPads and Pages to construct learning journeys of their Foundation kiddies, which is involving a fair bit of video taking. Does anyone know how Pages deals with inserting video clips - does it take a separate copy of the video, or does it link to the original? I ask as 2 of the iPads are approaching capacity and the teachers are unwilling to take/copy anything off them in case they need them. Any knowledge will be gratefully absorbed!
  3. I'm reaching out in the hope that someone can help me. I've currently got an XP laptop that's playing silly with it's file synchronisation. It says it has 84 files modified offline that need sync-ing, but running through the synchronisation process yields no problems and says it has completed fine. I've checked the Offline Files folder, and everything in there is reported as being synchronized. Yet these 84 files remain. We haven't made any network changes over the summer holidays, so it's not as if the laptop is trying to sync back to an unavailable source. In fact, it's only 1 folder that it's having issues with. Everything else the teacher has done over the hols has sync-ed fine. Given that these files are essentially stuck in the transporter buffer, I'd rather not reinitialise the Offline File Cache at this point. Any ideas? And thanks in advance!
