Dear all, *HELP* I have removed users from papercut by accident (long story, but be careful of filtered lists and bulk user actions...). Restored them from AD sync which has brought them back with default funds associated with those accounts. Done a restore from backup, a backup exec backup, as the papercut backup wasn't running, which should bring the entire DB across with it. However, the users that were removed have still got the incorrect funds. Papercut recommended that we restored the whole "Papercut MF" folder from "Program Files (x86)", which is where all the data is held. We have biostore and cunninghams cashless running as well. Any ideas? Only had this system for two weeks and a lot of head scratching is happening right now. Thanks in advance! Rob

Hey guys and gals, Yes it's a VM, but it had been running really nicely for a good while, but interestingly, it's been worse since September and obviously the dataset roll over. I've also seen the issue about the VM time/DC time crop up a couple of times. Rebooting at break/lunch isn't really a feasibility for us as our teaching staff need access at those times, pretty sure they need it 24/7 as teachers don't sleep... O_o We do, however, reboot both services between 0300 and 0330 as recommended by ACS. Maybe that's when teachers sleep... Thank you all for your input, I'll let you know if it plays nice for longer than normal. :-)

Hi Edugeekers, We've got a nice issue where eportal decides to top itself for what seemed to be no reason. I looked back over the times that it was doing it and found that there was a warning from Time-Service stating the following... The time service detected a time difference of greater than 5000 milliseconds for 900 seconds. The time difference might be caused by synchronization with low-accuracy time sources or by suboptimal network conditions. The time service is no longer synchronized and cannot provide the time to other clients or update the system clock. When a valid time stamp is received from a time service provider, the time service will correct itself. Have any of you guys come across this before? Am I barking up the wrong tree? I've set a scheduled job to run every hour to sync the time to see if it makes a difference. Any input would be amazing! Thanks all!

Had Lexia rear its ugly head again here. I've taken out the wireless cards from the laptops and hardwired everything! It works now... Who needs precision tools when you can have a lump hammer!

We use impero to push notifications out to our staff for urgent things. It's brilliant as it pings up over all other active windows. As for planned maintenance, we will announce in briefing, follow up with an email, then use smoke signals for those who still can't use computers. :-)

Hi Ozy, Thanks for the advice. We're pretty happy that we've got a handle on it, but we'd like to share practices, ideas and "I had a user once...." stories. We learnt pretty early on the "cover yourself" mentality... it's a sad world when subject matter experts get taken for a ride because someone has an opinion that is backed by voodoo and magic. :-)

Hi all, I've been lucky enough to be the network manager for an Academy on the south coast. We've just had £1m spent on ICT as part of a build project and part of our development here is to go and visit other schools that have outstanding ICT from a networking/support/devices/innovation point of view. If any of you lovely edugeekers would be kind enough to take myself and my two colleagues in for a day over half term to show us around and let us see how you're all operating, we'd be more than happy to have you over to see what we're doing! Hi Edugeekers, Nice odd one for you. A member of staff has got some documents that were created in Word 2003 which always used to spell check fine. We've migrated to Word 2010 and now those documents have "Do not check spelling and grammar" box checked in the "Proofing" tab. My initial thoughts are that it has been created using the same template and as a consequence, it's picked up the same bug. We can go through and click this for every single document, however, we'd like to set this up as the default for all his documents irrespective of the extension of the file (.doc or .docx). Has anyone else come across this problem and has anyone come across a fix for it? Thanks in advance, Rob

Hi Edugeekers, I've recently rolled out a nice new image of Windows 7 with Office 2010 on. I *think* I've set up all the folder redirections correctly (I followed the Technet how to guide) and from a picking up student's "My Documents" and profiles seems to be okay, there are no "logging you on with a local profile" messages as they log on. The problem I am now having is that Outlook 2010 is not correctly picking up their mailboxes and we have to run the mailbox setup wizard each time they boot it. I've downloaded the Microsoft Admin templates for Office 2010 and installed the Outlook14 template to our group policy, which although it is useful as it lets us stop the students from making a cached version of their mailbox, I couldn't see anything for pointing at their mailbox I'm running short on ideas and inspiration! Help! Rob

Turns out we did have some software sitting in the background... the license had expired and our Apprentice failed to mention it... we got a trial key, removed the users, and now all is hunky dory! Thanks for your help guys and sorry for the brain racking!

Okay, Nik. That's one thing we haven't checked! Odd that that would cause that kind of error... but I guess we're using Windows, should've realised that it could be something odd... Will give that a try now!
