I asked our reseller (Phoenix) about this and they asked Microsoft who told us it's not available for education. If anyone has it, please let me know as we'd still like it.

It's not part of my job role any more, but in place upgrade worked fine last time I did it and it's talked about regularly on here. When I've bought Server licenses in the past, I've only ever been able to buy a licence for the most recent version and it has always come with downgrade rights. You should check with your reseller, because anything said on here doesn't have legal standing, but personally I wouldn't be slightly concerned about the licensing. As per other posts, take a snapshot and then upgrade. Then you've always got a rollback option.

Wouldn't Server 22 come with downgrade rights? I.e. you can buy the licenses you need for your final configuration of Server 22 and user it to activate your midpoint of Server 19.

Look for a photographic equipment flight case. There are loads around that would be the right size and as they're standard items, they're not expensive. As they need to suit photographers hugely variable range of equipment they usually have a complete foam filling which you cut to fit whatever you want to put inside.

Instead I ran Install-Module -Name Microsoft.Winget.Client in PowerShell 7 I checked the installed version with the command winget -v Hopefully that might help someone else finding the same issue in future (or me when I forget what I did!

We had started using Winget to install and update software, but have found that it didn't work on some PCs. We got thrown by the fact that the CDN was down last week, but we're still struggling - it's something on our PCs. They're were all built from the same image with the same settings and policies. On a PC where it works, if I run Winget source update I get the response: Updating all sources... Updating source: msstore... Done Updating source: winget... Done On the machines that aren't working I get: Updating all sources... Updating source: msstore... Done Updating source: winget... Cancelled I have tried multiple networks, with firewalls enabled and disabled, reset Winget. Any other suggestions very welcome! This was supposed to be my answer to a reliable way of making sure we had a standard way to install software and kept installed software up to date.

It sounds like either the parent knows something about Intune and conditional access or they've read a scare story about how using schools' email/Teams allows the school to spy on my phone. A lot of organisations do apply conditional access policies on personal devices. It allows you to control what data is stored on devices or accessible from them, require certain standards such as up to date operating systems or encryption and gives you the ability to wipe organisational data from their device. My view is that that is perfectly reasonable - there's no obligation for them to use their personal devices and if they do want to access the organisation's data, then the organisation has a right to protect it. If you are allowing access to organisational data on personal devices, I would strongly recommend using Conditional Access if you're not already.

I've done it this way for years, but found it's more problematic now. We've had quite a few issues with synchronisation. Microsoft now recommend that you create a link in OneDrive to the SharePoint folder or document library. This is really annoying as I've spent ages teaching users that OneDrive is for personal stuff (like your old home drive) and SharePoint is the replacement for the file server. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/sharepoint-sync We've started to try and persuade people to use the open/save in the context menu in the office apps and to use the web interface for viewing find in SharePoint. It's the synchronisation that's been poor, not the presentation in File Explorer

Agree with above that business machines are better value if you can stretch. If you go refurb, make sure it's at least 8th gen intel with a TPM chip otherwise it will expire with Windows 10 end of life in October 25. I still like the Dell business outlet store. Edit: tried to post a direct link, but the Dell website didn't like it. They've got Latitude 5000 series with 12th gen (last year's) i5 processor starting at £500 including vat and delivery. I bought one in the summer and paid an extra £100 for the 3 year next day onsite warranty. We buy them with a 5 year warranty at work. If they last 5 years in our environment, they should easily manage that at home - and they're pretty repairable.

It really depends on the attitude and level of technical knowledge of the management. In a school, I had to fight to replace a failed disk in a raid array in because the server was due to be replaced in four months and in another larger organisation where the server infrastructure had become horrendously outdated, the management intention was to get rid of the people who'd fixed it as soon as possible. They virtualized everything and centralised hardware so that it was less visible, so management assumed there was almost nothing left to do.

Or that they can't (be bothered to?) work out how to do stuff properly in their new OS/interface, so just leave the old one there forever.

Vaguely on topic.... I now always leave my car keys near the door. The vast majority of car thefts now use the keys - I found this out when a friend woke up in the middle of the night with the car thief in his bedroom looking for car keys. Car thieves generally only come when you're at home so they're up for the risk of meeting someone and will keep looking until they find the keys. If I had keyless entry, I'd put the key in a metal case so that the codes couldn't be grabbed from outside the house - but I would label it "car keys" and leave it by the door. It's a shame the eCall system that has been mandatory on cars type approved since 2018 can't be used for theft tracking as well as crash detection. I hate Meta and all its arms - but I succumbed as otherwise I didn't get to hear family news and missed invitations to things I was interested in I definitely get more WhatsApp messages from people I want to hear from than I get SMS or emails - I probably get more emails, but I don't want most of them.

It's fine on Android - I haven't seen an Android phone without fingerprint authentication for years and most of them have face id too - I believe the Apple implementation is more secure than most, but the unlock function works fine.

It's about 6 years since I set it up and 4 years since I worked there, so I don't have the details any more - sorry. As with most things I've done - most of the information I found was on threads on here. I do remember it being not as straightforward as I imagined it would be, but it did work well once I had it running.

I did this in a primary years ago and it worked really well. I set up Azure AD Connect and used it to provision the Google accounts. Enrolled the Chromebooks and set the default domain meaning that username and password were the same on Windows and Chrome devices. I also set SSO to auto-login to O365. Essential to buy management licences, but very straightforward and effective and when I did it, very good value compared to usable laptops.
