tbh i dont like the developers preview of windows 8 i prefer windows 7 so much better.

we have the same problem with one computer in one of our ict suits, cant for the life of me find the problem, i just resorted to switching it off at the wall or leaving it on.

its normaly an upgrade every year, like the iPhone has released mainly in october, and the iPad in march, so their wont be a new one in 6 months

i really dont like the idea of them calling it the iPad HD - and otherwise why would they... apple have gone to the concept of the 's' edition like they have done with the iPhone so it will eather be the iPad 3 or the iPad 2s but i hope its the iPad3!!

i think if you dont go for a site licence (1000 machines) then its around about £11 per machine last time i checked

all the permisions are set correctly, it was just the fact that we didnt have the desktop redirected in group policy so it would go to a local profile which the permitions didnt apply to... the problem has been solved but i was wondering if their is eather a regestry or local group policy.

hi all. one of our students has found a way to download files he shouldnt be able to, by saving them to the desktop, to over come this we have redirected the desktop to his h:\ which is fine, but i just want to stop him using the folder up if he finds another location. help

Hi all, This is a carry on from our post - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/90719-art-room-graphics-cards.html We have came to a conclusion of three machines.... Option 1... Intel i5 2400 8gb Ram 1gb Nvidia Graphics card (tbc which model) Option 2... Intel i5 2400 8gb Ram 120gb SSD (tbc which model) 1gb Nvidia Graphics card (tbc which model) Option 3... Intel i5 2500k 8gb Ram onboard Intel Graphics (Intel 3000) I know most people will suggest the SSD but the reason we are quite dubious about it is that we have a cycle of about 6 years per machine, so we are quite unsure as they have been out for only a couple of years, so will the speed still be decent ect... and it may be a little out of our price league. hope you can help

mapping through group policy

Hi all, little problem with group policy deploying printers, the printers group policy is deployed to every member off staff and all students, a problem occours in a room called IT4 where a number of students end up with no printers deployed, they should... theirs no specific problem with the policy as some students get it deployed and some dont, its not any inividual account or computer its just pot luck... Servers OS DC - Server 2008 r2 Printers - Server 2008 PC OS 4 machines in room - Windows 7 SP1 the other 28 - XP SP3 its quite anoying when it works one lesson and doesnt the next, when they log off and bavk on then they sometimes get the printer(s) help please

the intel i5-2400 only has Intel® HD Graphics 2000, will this still be better than a discreate graphics card?

what specific nvidia graphics card would you personaly suggest?

some work will be done with hdr images so we want to ensure that they are able to run pretty decently

ok thanks for the advice, we have taken things into concideration and we have came up with keeping 8gb as they are soo cheap but using onboard graphics, the hard disks are as follows, using a 7200rpm drive - (Sata II) or (Sata III)?? or SSD (Sata III) the motherboards the company use at the moment dont have sata III ports so we will have to specifiy that they do which will add a little bit more on... Up for conciderations, any advice?

the problem we may have with that is, that we have a universial image, this image is about 80-90gb at the moment and with windows update will be more, and the fact that you dont get the full 120gb... also the machines we have in the art rooms now are 4 years old and are being moved into music which we didnt think of when they were purchased back in 2008... so in a couple of years these machines may be put somewere else, so yes we could create a specific art image but one of the rooms will be able to be booked out for other subjects, so were a little stuck

with the i5 and extra ram we are looking to keep them for a number of years, these specs we have came up with will help future proof the computers, i DO like the SSD's though!!! what ssd would you personaly recomend? were also using cs5

plus the benifits of making it last for a couple of years...

were looking to be using the machines for art perpiouses such as photoshop, premier elements and maybe a bit of vidio editing so would like to ensure the machines are fully capiable of running all these programs at a decent speed

Hi all we are looking for computers for our new build art room, The specifications we have so far are as follows; Intel i5-2400 8GB Ram 250GB Minimum HDD Card Reader But we are unsure on what graphics cards, we have a budget of about £450 per machine, but a company will build them... this will alow us around £30 - £40 ex vat on a graphics card. any suggestions?

its not picking up any group policys the only reason the H:\ drive is mapped is due to it being the home directory set for the user, this specific computer is windows xp, we have had a couple do this recently, no policys have been changed not computers have been moved, i have re-added them to the domain and tryed gpupdate on numerous occacsions and still no luck, if all of the drives didnt map that wouldnt be a serious problem its just when students are able to change local security or access local drives / local permitions on this machine is the problem, also they are unable to access the student start menu which is redirected via gpo. Also when computer is started up no policys are shown to be picked up same again when a user logs in
