No problems with Yahoo here. So far as I know there are no mirrors, but you could try logging into yahoo.co.uk instead of yahoo.com Frankly, my personal experience shows that Yahoo is fairly reliable. Most likely to be a forgotten or mistyped password. Martin

Thanks for this. We do have a domain, but we have no control over the DCs. They're run by council corporate IT. All we can do is to add bits to it that can be accessed via the VPN. I'd be happy to use AD, though there would be other considerations - logons in particular. Would we still want to use a generic student logon, what would be the impact on tutors who use the council VPN - would they remember two different logons etc etc? Personally, I think this could be a stepping stone to a more sensible network arrangement, that doesn't challenge the status quo to much and upset central IT. It would also allow proper backups and storage, rather than relying on the limitations of mapping to a tutor's local Win XP machine.

We have a very basic network system here, stretched across a dozen or so sites, with a maximum of 20 PCs on each site. We'd like to improve our network storage abilities, rather than simply having shared drives on a tutors folder. (We're Adult Education, rather than schools). We don't use AD, there are generic logons for students and tutors. My interim solution, rather than rolling out a massive AD system and all the other problems it holds, is to get a new Win Server 2008 machine, with loads of RAM and HD space. Then create some shared folders on a partition within it. Then what we would do is to manually map different folders on the server to drives on each PCs in each remote site. Obviously we'd also get some sort of tape backup unit, etc etc. Anyone spot anything massively wrong here? I'm not expecting massive amounts of traffic, nor huge files - word docs mostly. Thoughts? Amstrad Action was an ace magazine... I typed in the code too, learnt alot about programming from my CPC6128. I used to be really into Text Adventures - AA had a section on them, initially done by someone called "The Pilgrim". You could add your name and address for people to write to you when stuck on particular games (how the world was pre-email / web eh?). I got loads of letters about certain games, from all over the world. Bizarrely, quite recently I got a letter at my parents from someone who was trying an old game out and had dug around for assistance. I vaguely remember A-OK. If you did the cheats there, I probably used them. Fab times.

Apologies for delay in responding - been on leave for a few days moving house! I've done the ifconfig suggestion. The IP address that is given is the one that I set up when configuring FOG. (192.168.2.166) for the record. http://192.168.2.166/fog simply gives the "Internet Explorer cannot display webpage" error. I am trying to do this from the local machine. I have also tried it on other machines on the network. I CAN ping 192.168.2.166 and get a response. But not the webinterface. I HAVEN'T done the DHCP configuration. The DHCP server is run by a 3rd party company to which we have no access. I've requested the changes. But surely this shouldn't effect what I am trying to do. To try and test this, I changed the IP address of the FOG machine, but the behaviour was the same. Thanks for the suggestions Martin

Hello there, Long time lurker. First time post. I'm trying to install FOG, and I'm hitting a problem that has been asked on the FOG forums, but never received an answer. Thought I would post here in the hope someone else has some ideas. Basically, we've installed FOG (vers 0.27) via the VM image supplied from their site. This runs on Ubuntu, but because it's an image file, I don't do any Ubuntu install. I've configured FOG exactly as suggested in the install notes. I have not selected it to be a DHCP server as there is one on our network elsewhere. Everything appears to install correctly, but we cannot access the FOG server through the web interface. Trying to do this, simply results in a standard Internet Explorer "cannot display the webpage" error. I can definitely ping the IP address of the new webserver, both from the machine with the VMWare server on, and another machine on the network. I'm at a loss as to what else could be wrong. I've tried reinstalling from scratch, tried different IP addresses, nothing works. Any ideas?! Martin
