Hi guys, Just a quick question. I have set up a test Hyper-V cluster, and all works fine. Apart from if I perform a live migration, towards the end of the migration, once the VM is being switched over from Hosts then there's a slight blip in the connection to the VM. Is this behavior normal? Or should the change over should be completely seamless? I.e. if we are logged in to the VM, we don't get kicked out by the live migration process towards the end. Kind regards you all.

Hi Steve31. I get the same result if I try to connect to port 8530, but I have fixed the issue since then. It was mainly one WSUS Update that was causing issues. It provides support for Windows 10 within WSUS, but there were a few commands that had to be run from CMD to make it see the Update Repository on the server once again, and a few changes within IIS so that it operates properly on SSL. And then the last one which is making sure that the WSUS Pool is running within IIS. Thank you for your help though

Oh masters of WSUS. I beseech you all for thy help in the arcane arts of WSUS. We have a server that uses SCCM and WSUS for updates. Now SCCM can’t get to the updates components because WSUS is not running properly. If I use the WSUS console to log onto it I get the following error. I’ve double checked the ports and it is indeed supposed to be running from port 8530 and 8531. I checked on line and people have said not to install KB31448812, which it doesn’t have. It’s got the fix update instead which is KB3159706. Also I've checked under roles and the WSUS database is not ticket within the role. So I'm wondering if its using the SCCM database instead of a WSUS database? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Give the new head access rights to the old head's email address. Then the new head can open it as another shared mailbox. Also you can set a forwarding rule so that all emails received by the old heads account are forwarded to the new head teacher's account.

Or you can always use Windows Backup to backup the server to an iSCSI target on the Synology box.

You can get VEEAM Free Backup to run on physical servers.

That doesn't sound good. I run some SIMS servers with SQL on 6Gigs of memory in total and they are fine with way more users than that. I would look to see if there's anything else in the background that could be causing the crashes. Another app that relies on SQL perhaps?

Hi Guys, thank you for the replies. All sorted. The first time that I created the Quorum Witness through the Wizard I used the Folder Share option for it, and it looks like this is what was causing the issue. I created a new iSCSI Disk of 1Gb for the Quorum and recreated the Witness pointing to this and the Failover now works fine. However the other thing I don't understand is if the Cluster is supposed to be doing load balancing too? As at the moment I'm having to move the VMs between Nodes manually. Hi everyone. Since I work in education I have built a Test Cluster Environment on a shoe string, comprising of 2 identical HP ML servers acting as Hyper-V Hosts, and another HP DL server with loads of hard drives to act as the central iSCSI target repository. At the moment the Cluster is all working fine, I can do live migrations between the 2 hosts. However, the second that I turn one of the Physical Hosts off, and after all of the VMs are migrated, the remainder Physical Host then cannot see the iSCSI targets and the whole cluster fails in a spectacular fashion. Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and if they know where I am going wrong please? All servers are part of the same test domain, and are connected through a normal Cat5 switch. So no fancy Fibers are in used or anything like that. You can try this, or just log in with username "Rangerremove" if I remember correctly. Local Administrator Logon. 1. Open Computer Management. Go to the services section, find Ranger Network and RangerSecurity Monitor and disable them both (Security Monitor first). 2. Delete the Ranger folder from c:\program files and delete the Rngrupdt directory from the root of the c:\. 3. Open registry editor. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hyperion Security Software and delete this key. 4. Still in registry editor. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and find the value 'shell' and change the value from 'rgrshsub.exe' to 'explorer.exe' 5. In the same key find the value 'Userinit' and change the value from 'rgrunit.exe' to 'userinit.exe' 6. Reboot the machine.

Hi guys, Wondering if anyone out there with experience in using OpsView can help me out. Recently my workplace deployed OpsView on one of our servers, with the aim of remotely monitoring the servers of the other schools that we also help/ provide IT support for. As far as I can tell the installation of OpsView is working fine, I've gone to the remote servers, and I've installed the client of OpsView for windows from their webpage. However, our monitoring server doesn't seem to be able to pick the client computers across the internet. Works fine withing our network, but when it tries to go out it seems to be getting blocked. I've unblocked the port NRPE on 5667, as I understand this is what OpsView uses to communicate, but still no answer. Can anyone help as I have no experience in using OpsView at all so kind of stumbling along. Thanks.

Oh dear. You are going to need a lot of help and long hours to completely kill it off. It would be a good idea if you talk to Sophos and get them to help you. We just started using KAspersky on our network when we had a big outbreak. There's a small tool that we got from kaspersly specifically designed to target Conficker and kill any open processes that were infected. We ended up unplugging EVERYTHING (and I do mean EVERYTHING) from the network. Make sure that all servers are clean and patched, there's like three different patches that you need for each machine flavour, before replugging them to the network. Make sure that you haven't got anything connecting wirelessly to the network too, and disinfect every workstation prior to plugging it back to the network. It could be a good time to make new images for the workstations with all updates and latest AV releases just to make sure that Conficker it's truly dead. It took us about 2 weeks solid to completely kill it off. Good luck.

Thanks for that. Will run some tests with them and see how it goes. I thought about Dropbox already, but didn't go for it as the accounts had to be registered on the nest, and then that opens up other problems with keeping data safe and all of that.

Hi guys, just wanted to get peoples' opinions on how better synchronise laptops and files on Windows XP to Server 2003. I don't like the box standard utility that comes with XP, so wondering if anyone new of better free tools that I can put on my machine builds that would do a better job of synchronizing, as at the moment, a lot of time is being wasted. Thank you all for any ideas.

I had a similar problem with a Fujitsu laptop, but in XP. One day it would work fine, and then 5 minutes later, it would fail with an exclamation mark next to it. Good to hear that you fixed it though.

Hi guys, thanks for the advices. I've done soem more digging in the eventlog and with Policy Reportr, and it's not looking good. I think the main problem is with the AD server, as in even viewer, there where loads of errors were the computer can't find the domain or the AD server. However, user's do manage to log in, eventually, after 5 or 10 minutes. The Network Manager is looking at changing over to a new built domain on new servers, but he told me in the meantime to see if I could figure out how to speed things up for now. Also, I found other SCECLI 1202 Events in the logs.

The eventlog on the server or on the actual machine?

Hi guys, Just a quick post to see if I can get any ideas in how to speed up our Logon On and Logoff process here at work. At the moment when anyone logs in it takes like 10 minutes before anyone can use the computers, as the computer will sit there Applying Computer Settings for at least 10 minute, and the same for when logging off. Any ideas anyone? We are still running on Windows 2003 and XP for client machines. The main AC controller is pretty old, so I don't know whether that is part of the problems, and there's other 2 servers equally as old acting as back up AD servers and load balancing. Thanks for any help.
