We use bitlocker-to-go on all staff memory sticks, and have it enforced in group policy and tied in to AD. That way we know that they have encrypted any data they put onto a memory stick, and we can also recover it easily if they forget the password (Although it's not great for auditing, you could prove that their computer had been used to encrypt X amount of devices, and what times they were encrypted). As far as proving that your devices were encrypted, I'd personally encrypt with Bitlocker before the device is issued out (either manually, or during deployment using MDT or similar), and have the policies in place for removable devices. As long as you prevent them from being able to turn off bitlocker, then you know that your clients are safe. I can't comment on how effective this will be in practice, as OS encryption seems a bit overkill for us currently, but we've had no problems with Bitlocker-to-go, so it's likely that we'd keep to bitlocker if we ever do go down that path. I imagine (and really hope) that this has been resolved by now as it was a long time ago, but when I used to work at a local authority they introduced McAfee's full drive encryption. I only had user privileges, but I could see the tray icon, and got a bit curious. I clicked onto it and found it was copying across and listing every username in plain text and a (presumably) encrypted password for everyone on the domain! Hardly seemed to be a secure thing for it to be doing!

I've not tried this, as I'm the only person using Office 2013 in our school atm, but I'd try making the change whilst having 2 instances of SpyMe Tools open. One monitoring files, and the other registry. That way you'll be able to trace any changes it's making.

There are also only a very select few panels with that resolution too currently. I'm considering getting the UH90 next time I go to Japan. You don't need scaling anyway! Unfortunately, the Ativ Q is £1300 at the moment. It is however available to buy (Although only at Very it seems). I'm holding out for more devices with 3200x1800 screens before I buy a new device. Although, on the slightly less expensive (yet still pretty expensive) end of the spectrum, I've been using a Vaio Duo 11 for a little while and it's a very nice device. The keyboard is excellent on it, and the stylus works well.

I agree with everyone else that skills mean a lot more than qualifications. Quals are a good way to gauge whether you meet the technical requirements for the job and if it's suitable for you, but your skills are how you separate yourself from the crowd. Supawat1 said it perfectly about IT not being just about the technical stuff. Especially when you're starting out, you'll find that a lot of roles in IT will be very customer facing. Also, I'm just being overly picky, but even though forums are informal, it's still worth avoiding certain words and double checking your spelling/grammar. It presents a much more professional image of you. I hope you manage to find something anyway!

Here's an interesting one for you. I can't work it out for the life of me, but in Word 2007 our ICT teachers have mentioned that spell check isn't automatically kicking in. I've been in and checked all the settings, and automatic spell checking is enabled, however the interesting part is that as soon as I click the menu icon, spell check springs to life. Has anyone ever had this happen to us? It's not specific to a certain machine, and we've just installed SP3 just in case but it's still happening.

Any suggestions on calendar software that a teacher could use to keep a timetable in? Basically, we have a 2 week rotating timetable. We've tried Outlook and this works fine, but as soon as we hit half term the weeks went out of sync. What we could do with is a program that lets you add an exception to a recurring event so that you can skip the half term week. Has anyone got any advice on how to do this?

Didn't really enjoy last night's as good as last week's show. I felt the laughter problem was back again. A couple of minutes in Lister was reading the book and said "....composed twinkle twinkle little star at the age of five", which got a laugh. Why? It wasn't funny. We have around 32 HP DX2000MT's that we are looking to sell at the low, low price of just £5 a unit. Offers of £5 and upwards invited We are looking to get rid of them as they have been replaced with newer machines. The machines are in reasonably good condition, though many have faulty CD drives. Actually, quite a few of our machines still only have 2 out of 4 DIMMs filled, so that'd be quite helpful. How much would you want for them all? And DDR3 has come down so much, even for laptops. That being said I didn't get a bad deal on DDR2 for my home PC, but that was a misprice (£25 for 4x2GB) a good year or so ago.
