Would you share a screenshot of how that screen is set to hide folders please? I've never played with those settings before.

Thanks for your replies. I also thought that redirecting to a mapped drive could potentially cause more issues for the same reasons you say. Group policy results wizard and the event log tell me everything is fine. I've ruled out permissions as the N drive is mapping. "User > Policies > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > Documents:" is set the same as you state. I have nothing at all set in "User > Preferences > Windows Settings > Folders:" as the drive is mapped by setting it as the Home folder in AD.

We currently have our students "Documents" redirect set to redirect to user's home directory, and their home directory is set in AD to map the N drive to their username on a file server. Often, the redirect doesn't take effect, but the N drive is mapped. This ends up with students saving work in the "Documents" folder they see which is actually local to the device because the redirect didn't work. This then of course means next lesson they can't find their work because they've picked up a different laptop. Any suggestions please? If I simply redirect "Documents" to "N:" is it any more likely to work? Thank you Stuart

Solved it. Not enough disk space, although why it didn't just say that I don't know! Oh yes I do, it's a Microsoft error message.......... Still could have been worse, it could have been a Capita error message!

I took it to the Co-op funeral place as I figured they can get stones carved (so still related to @mikeprice comment!), and the guy said "I'll have a go, but if it breaks I'm not taking responsibility" as he was unsure himself!

I copied the ISO to the Hyper V host, and then inserted it in to the VMs DVD drive. I also tried copying it to the VMs local C drive, and running it from a mapped drive.

I had tried various other things regarding permissions and what-have-you as well as I'd seen similar to what you've found when Googling, but got nowhere. I think on my restored copy of the server, I will uninstall Sophos and try again. Thanks.

Well that made no difference. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, this complains about network problems even though it's installing off a local disc.

In a similar but slightly more positive idea, I bought a piece of rose quartz and had "Stuart loves Vicky" engraved in it for her wedding present, so it is set in stone. (Yes, my wife's name is Vicky )

'afternoon, We use @SchoolsBroadband with Netsweeper and my tech has noticed that when you search for videos on Bing, you can put your mouse over them without clicking and Bing shows you the video. It doesn't work if you click the link to open it. Is there a way to stop it showing the preview? Thank you Stuart

It's running Sophos which doesn't like 2008 and is why I'm trying to upgrade, but that's it. I have, however, just thought of checking it's system proxy. It is set correctly in IE but not if I type netsh winhttp show proxy. I've now set that too and will try again later. There's people using it now..... Wish I'd thought of that earlier!!

As it's the holidays, I've just tried again on the live-connected-to-the-internet server (knowing I have a reliable backup to restore to if necessary) and it still says the same thing!

I had this with a laptop once and it just turned out to be a sticky power button. Basically I pressed the button to turn it on, the button stuck in so of course the laptop took it as though I was holding the power button down and turned it off again.

I've restored a backup of it to a temporary place so I can test whether the upgrade will work before I do it to the actual server. I can't connect it as the live server exists too.

One of the first things the upgrade asks is whether it should check for updates, to which I answer no. I'm not saying "So it isn't" though as when did Microsoft stuff make sense.....?

I have an old 2008 R2 server which I'd like to keep going for a bit longer and want to upgrade to 2012 R2. Long story behind it, I know pros and cons, etc. It is a virtual machine running on a Hyper V server. I have given it the ISO as a "DVD Drive" and I have copied the contents of the disc it's local drive but both times it gets so far through the upgrade and then says; Windows cannot install required files. Network problems may be preventing Windows from accessing the file. Make sure the computer is connected to the network and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070005 It doesn't have a network connection at the moment, but why would it need one? Any thoughts please? Thank you Stuart
