Previews work fine for me in this version Multiple uploads using the upload button fail with a missing character: Upload of Filename.txt has Failed! Could not find a part of the path '\\server\username\Deskto\filename.txt'. it should read: \\server01\mrg\Desktop\filename.txt (this is the destination path on the school network fyi.) The help system makes much more of an impact embedded (as you'd expect). Again, ill look through more fully tomorrow

I failed long before that! When i load the MyFiles page, i get (in firefox) a "Can't find Quota Server" error. I never actually got quota servers running though, so my hapconfig.xml file should not contain any references. Notice however the usagemade section at the end of each mapping. It appears to be set to drive mode in the setup, however - the xml file show this not to be accurate. %homedir% Manually changing that to usagemode="DriveSpace" for each line sorts makes it load happily

absolutely installing now and i'll run through the help tomorrow! I'm itching to try out the "send to google" and "homework" stuff!

Hey Nick, Only had a brief look so far, but for the most part it reads fine. The odd typo etc. corrected and I've suggested a couple of sentence restructures - but I haven't really added much. Is this the kind of thing you were looking for? Or did you want it padding out more - I would counsel brevity for on-line help though. I think it will be easier to feedback when it can be seen in context, but for now it appears good! Included are a couple of HTML text comparison reports so you can see what changes I suggest. This is seriously only about 30 minutes of reading so far though - so i will take another look through to see if anything else stands out! Matt Help.xml Report.zip

I'd be happy to offer some time looking over the English stuff. I wish i could be more help with translations, but alas English is all i got!

Couple more things on the MyFiles preview in 7.8 1> My ie9 seems to default to "IE9 Compat View" for hap.. I dont have anything in GPO's for compatability mode and other sites load in IE9 mode.. All that happens, is i see the same as @ragbuster above: 2> In the file explorer pane (right hand side), Drives require a Single-Click to open, but folders require a Double-Click - is that intentional? 3> The Toolbar is not displayed on the first level of browsing (i.e. N:\), so no Upload / NewFolder option are displayed. The toolbar loads on the second level, i.e. N:\Desktop 4> I am getting an error with previewing all files. I get an Internal Server Error popup. Firebug shows: GET https://portal.freman.org.uk/beta/api/MyFiles/Preview/N/Desktop/Exam%20Login%20Instructions.docx 500 Internal Server Error 75ms HeadersResponseXML Internal Server Error /beta/MyFiles/ (line 164) error /beta/MyFiles/ (line 165) Object { readyState=4, responseXML=document, responseText="/beta/MyFiles/ (line 166) RESPONSE TEXT: "Receivera:InternalServiceFaultSomething is wrongSomething is wrong at HAP.AD.User.ImpersonateContained()&#xD at HAP.Web.API.MyFiles.Preview(String Drive, String Path)&#xD at SyncInvokePreview(Object , Object[] , Object[] )&#xD at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.SyncMethodInvoker.Invoke(Object instance, Object[] inputs, Object[]& outputs)&#xD at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.DispatchOperationRuntime.InvokeBegin(MessageRpc& rpc)&#xD at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.ImmutableDispatchRuntime.ProcessMessage5(MessageRpc& rpc)&#xD at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.ImmutableDispatchRuntime.ProcessMessage31(MessageRpc& rpc)&#xD at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.MessageRpc.Process(Boolean isOperationContextSet)System.Exception"

fab - the old one is in the "upgrade" zip.. so getting it from the full release There do seem to be a couple of differences between the Full Release and my upgraded version.. i'm sure they are only minor, but: ~/Default.aspx is slightly bigger and newer in full zip ~/HelpDesk/Default.aspx is slightly bigger and newer in full zip ~/HelpDesk/NewAdminNote.aspx is slightly bigger and newer in full zip ~/Bin/HAP.Web.Logging.dll is the same size, but newer in the full zip ~/Scripts/jquery.contextMenu.js is obviously older too Thanks again!! It's working a treat now.. (though previews aren't.. i'll come back to you on that once ive troubleshooted it a bit more)

Yeah, that is the correct way, so it is not the same cause as mine was Just incase there is a typo or some such, my section from hapconfig.xml looks like this: %homedir% \\servername\pupilsshared \\servername\teachersshared Otherwise, you need help from someone more capable that me!

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/home-access-plus/82823-home-access-plus-v7-2-outstanding-issues.html Specifically; "7 Config UI writes server shares as //servername/share rather than \\servername\share causing "given key was not present in disctionary" errror in browser" Check your hapconfig.xml file and ensure that the slashes are the correct way around!

@nickbro Was there a resolution to this? I get the same view in IE9, FF and Chrome (with context menu items displayed in the page and replaced with "onContextMenu", "onShowMenu" and "bindings" (as described by @enjay above). IE9 Browser Mode is "IE9". Firebug shows no errors or warning (though i expect you were asking @gianzack for firebug feedback) (running 7.8 btw)

looks amazing It will DEFINITELY be popular at our place! The simplicity will have my teachers having kittens! After so many complex and doomed systems for interacting with the kids - this could be just the trick! Happy New Year Nick

The URLs must have "http://" or "https://" just incase anyone is as dippy as me!

Christmas early!!! This is gonna be one hell of a powerful suite nick!
-
Yep. I even created two Applications in IIS. Bear in mind that your second one wont be using the standard names that Nick recommends in his instructions (i.e. your 2nd beta one is not installed in a "supported" way), though i have never had any problems - HAP is actually very versatile! Matt
-
Hey @enjay Generally an upgrade is as simple as unzipping the upgrade files over the top of the original. What i would advise however is to make a backup of your entire HAP folder before you do it - that way, you can always revert back to that version if there is a problem. (I have installed HAP twice on my server, once in a folder called HAP and once in a folder called BETA. I always try my updates on the BETA folder before upgrading my main folder which means there are a lot less surprises!) Matt

Nice post @CHiLL Not much to add and little point paraphrasing what you already said. Thanks very much Nick.

It's looking great Nick. When i browse solely using the right hand pain, can the left hand tree expand accordingly? (it currently stays closed) What is planned / implemented for uploading, will it be a right click like the silverlight version was? If so, would there be any chance in an "Upload" button next to the "New Folder" button on the toolbar? I know it's belt and braces, but some of our more challenged users (read: teachers) are struggling to find it in the silverlight version! What does / will the "Organise" button do? Under the tree view on the left, can the drive letter be included somehow with the drive name? ie "(N) My Documents" or "N: (My Documents)" or some such varient It's looking really great Nick. Very excited! Matt

meh.. apparently it just needed a good nights sleep!! MyFiles is now loading as expected.. not sure where i went wrong, must have been something simple as nothing has changed.. session time-out or some such! The "ShowTo" added to the booking resources is ace. Exactly what i was looking for!! Thanks!!
-
I saw that coming!! Will hopefully get some time tomorrow. Matt

Thanks mate, will have a play with that! I have a raft of suggestions related to the helpdesk now for your consideration!! Helpdesk Suggestions: I'd like (admins) to be able to edit the title of a ticket (teachers always put things like "Help" or "Urgent" or some such) I'd like some more information on the "Open Ticket Display" and "Closed Ticket Display" (Details: Username | Room | LogDate | LastActionDate | Status) (with some "sort by" titles?? ) Priority defaults to "Undefined" - can it perhaps default to "Normal"? The Status seems always to be "WithIT" or "Fixed" - Can status be used to record ownership of the issue, i.e. "WithUser". Ownership could be explicitly handed back to the user in the email rather than indefinitely pending a response and remaining owned by IT. When tickets are closed, the email that is generated to the punter contains only the text from the last update (and not the whole conversation). This makes it hard for the user to identify the context if they have multiple tickets. (Often they get an email saying, "Should be fixed now" and they have no idea what the problem was..) When tickets are "UPDATED" (same as above) Mark as FAQ seems to not work for me.. I'd quite like to be able to edit (tidy and format) an FAQ item without effecting the original source ticket. Can "Mark as FAQ" generate a duplicate ticket, perhaps in a different xml file? This could be edited, formatted etc to make it specifically relevant as an FAQ. Links in the emails don't seem to work consistently.. Specifically, if you don't have an active session, it redirects to the login page but then it doesn't go back to the target link post-login. When using "Make Aware", can it be treated like a CC and include those people in the thread with the same rights as the original - and be displayed in the ticket details (most of this may already be functional, but im never sure if i have to "make aware" everyone at every update etc). That's it

Hey Nick, I made a couple of notes when reinstalling HAP+ (a clean install from v7.6) and subsequently from my upgrade to v7. None of these strike me as major though! (and you may have already addressed the v7.6 items as i havent tried a clean install using 7.7) Issues on a clean install (v7.6 was used) "Internal Server Error" on clicking update on "Access My Emails Link" in setup.aspx. Replicate - edit the "Access my emails link" in setup, remove the CWHS assignments, added my own assignment (group called staff).Clicking "OK" is fine, but clicking "Update" yields an "Internal Server Error". The cause seemed to be two links with the same name being written to xml file, "Access My Emails" (one for staff and one for students). Renamed one and it worked fine. "My School Files" was not being displayed. (i had previously checked it in setup.aspx and quite possibly saved). The cause was some eroneous characters in the xml file: "showto" had been saved as "Inherit " rather than "inherit" Usage Mode on drive mapping doesn't change - it is always written to the config as "Quota" despite having "Drive SPace" selected. Issues on v7.7 (Full production upgrade) MyFiles browser will not populate with drives for me. It shows "> My Drives" on the left, but no tiles are loaded. V7.6 one DOES work for me. Clicking on the ">" turns it into a pair of spinning red arrows. My other stuff is more like requests, so ill spam the "Suggestions" thread in a second! Cheers, Matt

Looks great, cant wait!! Is there any chance that the "drag and drop" functionality can be an option at drive level? (I wish it could be in Windows too, a shared area + teachers is such a headache!!) Other than that, can't wait to start playing properly (having some issues with the 7.7 myfiles which i havent gotten round to troubelshooting yet)
-
@dezt, your problem sounds much like the issue i had - worked through loads of troubleshooting, but never actually got it solved. In the end, i tried the install on a fresh server and it worked a treat.. something somewhere in my Windows install was messed up, but nothing would generate a useful error. I know it might seem like overkill, but if you had the same issue that i did then it is with the Windows install, rather than HAP+ and no amount of troubleshooting JSON or HAP will get you there.. If you can, just try a fresh box and copy your entire HAP folder across - for me it started working immediately and gave me a way forward.

First off, a quick thankyou to Nick. It amazes me how quickly you come to rely on something that you never previously had. The HAP+ suite has totally transformed our way of doing things here and i applaud its simplicity! I struggled a bit with my server config last month and it became clear just what an impact NOT having it has on my life! Your work is superb and the support has been fab. My Suggestion: I would quite like to be able to limit a couple of resources to specific people: i.e. Our Science department have two laptop trolleys that are for use only within the department. There is no point in anyone else seeing it (we have about 8 trolleys across the whole school) as they are not x-curricular resources. In terms of design, it would be a fairly straightforward extension of the permissions that HAP already supports: Default permission would be Inherit (from Help Desk permissions), with the option to add individual accounts or groups. This would allow me as an administrator to know when the laptops are in use too and where they are in use. Not a huge leap from what it does already, just allowing me to filter certain resources from lots of staff
