Ok pulling what hair i have out now, We've just taken delivery of some spanking new Toshiba M750-10K Tablet PC's. Getting a Volume Licence version of XP Tablet working has been a marathon in its self with us having to create a slipstreamed XP Tablet Edition CD with the appropreate Toshiba drivers (mostly the ICH9 SATA Drivers so XP Setup could actually see the HDD) here comes the next problem, Ghosting the images, I can't get Ghost to boot, all I get is boot failure or if running Ghost from the UBCD4WIN DVD it blue screens. This is similar to the standard XP Pro CD when it didn't have the ICH 9 Storage Controller Drivers slipstreamed. has anyone any sugestions on how I can ghost these machines? as at present I can't even boot a Ghost CD!! Thanks in advance Steve

I'd intended to be a bit vague;)

bear in mind I'm NOT the manufacturer or its representitive, just a lowly Network Manager and Tech freak! Accessability wise not very as its sealed to IP6 standards, there again I've not tried to dissassemble it! Steve

I'd guess that larger disks will come as SSD drive prices decrease, as for a DVD, there's a docking station and you can use an external DVD only at present. onboard DVD will only increase the vunerability

Well I gave it quite a few hard wacks yesterday no problem, I'd imagine it might scratch with a compass? As for Tipex, yes i think so, its waterproof and antiseptic proof so just wipe it off with some white sprit!

Nope, cos there isn't one! Its touchscreen finger or digitiser pen (type or handwrite) or anything not too sharp really!

Around the £600 mark, depends on what gets added or removed, as in we would want USB ports but unlikely to need the barcode scanner or RFID? Steve (MGSTech)

Come on then guys, where's the video of you throwing my (pre-Production) Student Proof (indestructable ?) laptop on the floor of the stand?... and it still worked ! I've spoken to the manufacturers and they are interested in pushing a variation of this into the education market. Based on what I showed you yesterday (please post the vid) who would ne interested? Details: Intel Atom Processor 1Gb RAM 80Gb Solid State HDD Touchscreen Waterproof (so waterproof it went in a bucket of water) Toughened screen etc etc MGSTech

Seconded for these guys, we've had around 500 so far, we sell them to students VAT free. Just had 4 gig at £5.75 branded with colour logo and same at 8gig for £10.95 Steve

Try telling then YOUR recording the call for means of legal redress (after all they record you for training purposes) ask all helpdesk staff to state their name and extension number for the purposes of the recording. It's amasing how helpfull they can be

Some pointers when I last looked into this:- School owned laptops - expect a 40% damage return Unless you transfer ownership to the parent, School is responsible for WHAT is view at HOME via the internet. If you supply and own the laptops its your responsibility what they do with them at school AND at home (Impossible to Police) There will NEVER be sufficient power sockets in a class Put two partitions on the laptop with two copies of OS one for home use and one school, use MS Steady State on school partition to undo and changes at logoff Using two partitions keeps home rubbish off the school partition. Make the default boot the locked down school partition Invest in another technician, one local school has a tech continuously re-imaging laptops and he has 20-30 per week (1500 on roll) Insist on Accidental damage cover, students WILL break screens if they think it will get then a new unit. Explain to parents that the insurance does not pay out indefinitely, more than three claims a year and they refuse to cover you next year. Watch the market as a leading Laptop manufacturer is testing a laptop that can be cleaned in a bucket of water, dropped onto concrete from three feet and has a re-inforced screen that almost indestructable, oh and its touchscreen! regards Steve

Ditto on the Buffalow 2Tb NAS, tech Support useless and dosen't support Server 2003! Very slow even on Gig port.... On the other hand our HP 320s Storage server running 2003 Storage Server with 6Tb of disk space is excellent....if you can afford one.

Classroom Panic - One Way Messaging
Ex-MGSTech replied to andymellor's topic in Network and Classroom Management
What about this thread? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/4383-panic-button.html Steve -
i raised this recently and was told that the LA cover laptops for damage with a £200 excess, apparently the teachers unions have addressed this as they said it was unreasonable to expect a teacher to insure a school issued laptop Another "get out of jail free2 card from the Teachers Unions! wish the support staff had such influential unions!

I'm trying to do the same with both hosted on W2003K Servers, we host our own studywiz server outside of our DMZ and I've been trying to get webdav authentication working to no avail. I'm now considering bringing the studywiz server back inside the firewall and using an ISA server outside to route everything... Steve

laptop screen shows video while interactive whiteboard won't
Ex-MGSTech replied to llawwehttam's topic in Windows
if its a Dell laptop they have problems displaying video AND and internal screen. Try hooking the laptop up to a normal LCD screen and then the Fcn F5 or F7 to toggle between the screens. This is ONLY when playing video. if you have the external screen only it works and vice versa, but not both at the same time. Something to do with insufficient video memory. Steve- 12 replies

yes, we use disk to disk to tape Out of curiosity, which NAS boxes/Backup software are people using? I ditched backup exec on our admin LAN last year and we're currently using Backup Assist. Steve
