Thank you for that have looked that up and found it quite useful. However this only covers the states from my understanding of it the data could be in any Google data center in the world. So surely it would therefore come under the relevant local laws for the country the data center is in. So if the data was stored in the Taiwan data centre it would be accessible under any Taiwanese laws that allows the authorities to access it. (A possibly unlikely occurrence but as we don't know where the data will actually be stored, one that we have to look into)

I have been asked to look at the possibility of using Google Apps as our curriculum email system. I was wondering how people managed to get around the bit in the terms of service that states bearing in mind that the data protection act says that data should not be held or processed outside the EU. I was also wondering how people found the experience of switching over to Google Apps and also if there are any hidden charges for ‘extra features’. Thanks, JT-Online

I have a feeling they use the NTbackup stuff built directly into Windows. (or at least they did on my 2003 server) Other than that I'm afraid I can't help anymore!

Hello All, I'm Joe and I am based at a school not too far from the centre of Maidstone Officially I am the ICT Technician. But if it has a plug on it chances are everyone thinks it is something to do with me. We have roughly 70pcs and 2 servers (curriculum and an admin server) Im only a few months into my career having previously been at university, which in no way at all set me up for the role I now do every day.

Thanks for the tips! A quick look has shown there are no folders in users documents that are over 500mb which is a right pain. We are having a clear out on photos that are older than 2007 which has reduced one of the worse users by 50% (Shows the stuff teachers collect!) It does seem the backups are incremental so I would imagine what you mentioned MYK-IT is possible. I am just going to keep tidying and making sure quotas are inforced. Some how the two teachers with the largest amounts of data saved did not have quotas enabled. This has been done now!

We currently have a backup taken online every evening. Recently this has been failing due to lack of space on our package. Last night however after much cleaning out of files and reducing quotas, some how it jumped by 9 GBs. we have no idea how this happened, as our staff never produce more than 1GB of data a day tops. Are there any areas I should be looking to clean out on the server or anything I should be looking at in particular, as I need the backups to go through. We have an RM CC4 Network. Hi All, I am working in a school with about 80 computers and I am trying to sort out arranging some new licensing. For now just trying to locate prices to see if the upgrades will be included in the budget for next year. The licensing I am looking for is ~80 Windows 7 32 Bit and ~60 Office licenses. Looking on the Microsoft site I am not really getting any closer to what I need. So I am really looking for recomendations on what I need/where I should be looking at prices. Many Thanks Joe
