    Game port sensors

Hi - tried the sound card option but it keeps BSODing on me due to the poxy interrupts they use (and yes did disable the onboard ones!!!) Yer right again Dos
  3. You know that RM Program that uses sensors that collect light and temperature? Wel..........the new xp boxes dont have game ports and was wondering if anyone has tried them using an USB Gameport convertor. They are only about 8quid or so and I found a supplier and link: http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/index.php?cName=joypad-converters-gameport-to-pc-usb But I really want to know if im wasting my time and money and if anyone else has been through this grief? Thanks in advace
  4. Tony do you find that your in the position of being left to pick up the pieces though. The 'Advisors' and 'Consultants' who are supposed to disseminate all of what you described in your post at the least communicative people on the payroll. I dont mean that vindictively = but if you were an ex-head or something similar would you really want to speak to pond life like us? There is a culture issue here and I make no bones about it. Until the doors of discussion are open to all the likes of you and I will still spend each day sifting the grains to find the substance. Sorry been a heavy heavy term for me so far and frankly very down with it all.
  5. What gets me about all of this and its probably stated in several other threads is that there is a huge discrepancy between investment in hardware and investment in support costs. I think everyone on her agrees that we could do with more money for the job we do but its like flogging a dead horse when schools are used to being served by people with a bit of pride in their work and irrespective of the package they are on - they constantly deliver for the benefit of the kids. What amazed me in all of this though is that with LEA approval (in my case certainly) the schools are prepared to pay socking great sums for appalling service and support from the likes of RM and providers of the LFT scheme. And who are the poor sods that have to sit on the end of the phone trying to interpret what the nonty head on the other end of the phone is proposing as a fix?????
  6. Dos are you doing my job when Im not there! Sounds very similar but shorter time span. Originally 3 NT 4 server 5 Windowbox p2p networks. Now..... 7 Win2k/2003 Server based network Too many laptops to count (honest!) IWBs all over the place Cameras Videos Multimedia setups etc Managed Library systems Correcting LEA bodges Really would love time to do a full inventory Oh and still havnt had the revue I asked for last April (04)!!!!!
  7. Hi guys, Got a prog called Dance eJay for Schools - pretty funky and intuitive but the network version calls for 1024 x 760 res but the screens are set by default to 800 x 600 because of the other toss software thats running on them. I let em access the exe for the program through a batch file and was wondering there is a way to call for the screen res to be changed using the batch when they call the app? Clients are XP Pro and 2000 Pro on AD Network Backwards compatibility is easy but this has me scratching my nuts a bit. Cheers
  8. Thats what I thought - but you try and explaing Shadow Copy to a user!!!! It was just a general question but did make me think a bit. You can get them back with freeware utilities that I have achieved before but to answer the basic question got me scratching!
  9. This was posted on my LEA forum and I am honestly scratching my head over it - any ideas? When you delete files from a network drive where do they actually go? they dont appear in the recycle bin, and they dont appear in the server recycle bin. Where are they? file heaven?
  10. Why is the network running slow today? Its not - its a new energy conservation programme i have installed - same results but just takes a bit longer - oh and we got it from RM with ELCs
  11. What type of network managment software are you using if any? I use Ranger and you can do a change to any application - get the registry entries from that change then dump it into the preshell or the app itself i have had to do similar tasks and found this works a doddle
  12. We could start a new thread here How about LEA White Elephants If I put mine up I will be identified far tooo quickly lol
  13. In my partnership of primaries I have done the deed of installing new networks for em all with Ranger controlling Win2003 AD systems. I told them we are starting minimum and building up from there. To date all of the staff seem perfectly happy with the core set of office products - good internet resources and a few bespoke applications like: RM Maths Revlelation Natural Art My World Colour Magic Number Magic Info Workshop Word Shark Clicker Flowol Flexicad and Flexitree 2 Simple Toolkit Plus some Flash based interactive Maths bits Nobody has asked for Encarta 97 or Millys Mathshouse or Zoobinies yet!!! The staff are finally realising that IT is a tool to drive a lesson and the new IWBs and Smartboard software is great as its making best use of the network and shared resources. Keep it lean - keep em keen!
  14. I was suffering so badly from corridor attack I have had to implement an email based system. We use First Class and I have had a conference setup for each school (I look after 8 primaries) where they post Work Requests and Faults and once I have got round to it simply drag it into an archive - all of this is public viewing- of course there is still the mobile for 'real' emergencies. Its strange but since I have implemented this the 'faults' seem to be diminishing - I also posted a strong reminder of the 2 main user diagnostic tools 1. Physical Error - have you eyeballed it 2. Operator Error - have you done something to it Seems to be working so far................
  15. Im being Cynical Mark of course!!! Im an old sweaty techie well used to the world of RM but a newbie in here - looks like it could be fun
  16. After the Bios flash - I went onto the RM site and downloaded every single driver to make sure that there were no 98 legacy stuff in the image - it only happens on that generation of PC as I had some OSIS ones from Capita so its got to be something common Cheers
  17. First thing I did! is RM an abbreviation of something rude?
  18. Thats the message guys. Had some Old RM Celeron 600's that I upgraded to 256mb RAM to run Win2000 on my Ranger Network - now the sods wont shut down - I have been all over the place looking for an answer - any ideas Cheers
  19. An old Microsoft NT4 tool exists called Con2Prt.exe which connects and disconnects printers via a DOS command line command. Using this utility as described will provide a user with a list of printers available to the workstation they are logging on at. The list of available printers and the default printer can be defined per machine usually on a room basis. You just put a variable on it and its a doddle to use - here is a good link with instructions and how to get it http://www.rangersuite.com/support/knowledgebase/articles/index.asp?article=KB0204270#using%20the%20nt%20tool%20con2prt.exe
