Sounds like we've all got some good summer festivals to go to I'm going to Benicasim and I'm driving there (taking a shortcut from portsmouth to santander by ferry), I'm really giddy for it!

I have to say I've had a similar experience with this, but I'm now working for a FTSE 100 company, in a successful secure role, on a good wage, and plan to do an open degree - because I want to - rather than because I feel I have to. Everyone I know who has joined the company at the bottom rung since I started has a degree. I started on that bottom rung over 5 years ago, and I'm still climbing. I have no Uni debt, and I'm 7 years ahead. I'm not saying there won't come a point where I'm stuck and can't get any higher because I don't have a degree, but if i'm happy what does it matter? And if I'm not, I'll sort that at the time. As people have said, it affects different people in different ways and all the opinions and advice here are completely valid. I know that I wouldn't of made it to the end of uni successfuly because I'm just not the academic type and had simply decided it wasn't for me. My heart was in my work, though, and that's what's got me this far. If you go into making any of these decisions half heartedly because you think it's the best thing to do (according to society or the masses) but you're not committed to it yourself, you'll not get very far. So whatever you do and for whatever time period, give it your all, and it will work.

It would also put me off. Your thoughts about your product might be genuine but looking at that kind of slogan would make me think that you're less interested in my knowledge and more interested in the pass itself.

Hi There, I'd just like to clear up a few points.... This information Posted by @DaveP is about running the DVT (Data Validation Tool) which will help us migrate data from your Facility Database to Progresso. It is not the spec required for running Progresso on a Facility server. (see below) •.NET Framework Version 4.0 •SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is installed and its running. •Microsoft SQL Server 2008 /2005 standard edition ( In case of SQL 2005 SP4 is needed) •If named instance is being used on the SQL Server then please use Server name/instance name in the DVT tool for the Server name. To explain the last bullet, when you install SQL database services, you will either install with the default instance or specify an instance name. 90% of the time this will be on the default instance. In this case the server name is all that is needed in the 'server name' field of the DVT. If it is installed on a named instance then the 'server name' field should be SERVERNAME\INSTANCENAME. I'm sure that your project manager will assist with this if you have any issues. At the moment you would need to speak to your account manager regading self hosting but I believe it is only feasible when the economies of scale set in, hence the suggestion that it might be restricted to LA or large Academy Chains hosting centrally at the moment. I wouldn't like to speculate any further as I don't have th efull and correct information. @Tallwood_6 I believe that you've misunderstood about the data which is migrated. My understanding is that any data for current learners is transfered. You will need to keep the Facility database as an archive for leavers. @Oaktech feel free to contact me directly by PM if you feel that you need some assistance or some questions answering in private / specifically to your establishment. If I cannot answer them I will certainly make sure that someone else gets in contact and does. SSIS is SQL Server Integration Services. Check for the service in services list. If it's not there you can install it by using the original install media for SQL (make sure it's the same version) and when you go through the install make sure you're only adding SSIS. Thast's definately not repairable, it will need to be replaced. It's true though, it won't shatter. It's ilegal if it's in the sweep of the wipers, I think. But even then, there are some rules that say it has to be withing a certain 2/3 of the sweep of the wipers, starting at the drivers side, or something peculiar. That part of the document comes from the days when the hardware requirements were much less and disk space was a premium. Nice to see lots of different methods. I think it hugely depends on the MIS, staff, and size of school. Knowing who was there worked for us as we were a 11 - 18 secondary, and had 2400 students. So for example, marking absences on laminated sheets wouldn't of been feasible... but nor was my method for year 3's! Hopefully this thread is sparking some ideas and imagination though.

Bear in mind that these methods aren't always practical. And knowing which students were where at rollcall doesn't mean they're still here now, so you have to cross chck that against sign in / out sheets, etc. Also,if you've a large site, it might be that different groups meet in different places, which could mean depending which lesson they're in, they have to walk past a burning building to get to a fire assembly point. What we did was to have each building meet in a particular place (some buildings shard large areas). The students met in the teaching groups they were in at the time. The teachers did a head count as students left the room and another head count as they met in the designated place. Any students that were out at the toilet, for example, were added to the head count and expected at the assembly point. If the students were on break or lunch, they returned to the class they were last in. Although in this case a head count wasn't completed, the students and staff between them would instantly know if someone was missing from the group. Split lunches were never an issue because the staff member would always be on lunch at the same time as the students they'd just been teaching. The benefits to that system are you can put different buildings in different meeting places close to the building and you get figures of people that were in the building and not in the meeting place - which is what you're after. It means you get your figures a lot easier. Our fire chief was happy with that method and made the point that they'd always do a full sweep of the building when it's a school anyway. So regardless of your numbers, they're going in, it's just to aid them. And this seemed the most acurate way. it also meant you're not relying on potentialy incomplete sets of registers, out of date information, printing reports, wasting paper, storing them, etc. Mic The above post is my own opinion and experience and does not represent the views or opinions of my employer or anyone associated with.

I use Shell V power. I did on my 2.0 TDCI Mondeo, which was more economical but no more poke. The Mini (classic 1275 A+ series) that I had was noticable in poke, and I've now got a 240bhp Alfa and that's never had none V power in it. I collect Shell points on V power fuel, which means i get money off other things, It's similar to nectar, but I collect the actual points for free fuel. On average, doing about 2700 miles per month, I get around 9 pounds per month back in vouchers (average).

The ExpEMS module is a return which is required by some LA's, but not many, and I can't quire remember which off the top of my head - it won't do any harm having it installed, as said, it will just sit and not be used if it's not needed. Mic

I had this conundrum.. I picked up an LCD projector for £350, full HDMI, a sony 7.1 reciever that dealt with HDMI and 3D (though the projector isn't 3D but thats just a thought for the future, i think for about £400 you can get the 3d projector now anyway), a Yamaha 5.1 speaker set, built a hush box for it and mounted it all between the ceiling and wall over the bed (very securely!) Wiring all goes through the loft, made some brackets for the speakers out of threaded bar and sheet stainless, so they hang from the ceiling rather than the wall. The wire to each speaker comes through over the brakcet so is invisible and the heat from the projector escapes into the loft so it's quiet. The Virgin HD just plugs straight into it, as does DVD, (bluray would if i had it) Wii, the media streaming jobby i've got in the loft, the iphone has a dock and spotify running to it too. The projector screen was £40 used, and now I have an 84" TV which makes for some awesome film nights snuggled up in bed. Total cost was about £800 and it's absolutely genius. I imagine if you didn't want the 5.1 and got a used projector you could easily get that down to nearer £500. Mic

Hi, I know that Frog don't particularly do working from home very well, so i'm sure that location would be a clincher at interview. If you were to work in implementation i'm not sure how this would be affected because i know it may be regionalised. If you have already been working with Frog, the best people to answer the questions are... Frog. Send an email or letter over just detailing what you're trying to achieve and whether you'rethe kind of person that would be considered for those posts. Remember to ask if not, why not, so that you can work on those qualities / experience for the future. I should also say i'm in no way affiliated with Frog, nor have I ever worked for Frog. The kind of posts that you're after though do tend to be post which people work their way up to, rather than starting in after an aprenticeship, but I don't know how much experience you've had prior to this or what in... and I don't need to, but Frog do. Sorry, I voted before reading the entire post... I've had problems numerous times installing several kodak printers onto the same network, expecially using wireless. It's ok if you want to run one from each machine but as soon as you install two different models to the same machine on the same network they fight to the death! So I just have a general dislike for them. In this case though I reckon stock up on ink and you'll be fine. There will be companies making compatible cartirdges for ever and a day anyway though I would of thought?

I can vouch for the Harris guys, in general. I think the East Dulwich site is one of the ones I haven't been to, but I've met a lot of the federation staff and haven't come across anyone I don't get on with yet. Hi, I thought that setting was stored in the database, in which case i'm not sure as yet why you're having a problem. It would seem from your description that the setting is stored in either the CDB or the ini file (most likely in the ini) and so to get around your problem, you'd need to give the user 3 sets of 'clientfiles'. She must have 3 cdb's anyway, and she's got three shortcuts. Try checking the 'startin' path of each shortcut and pointing them at 3 different folders. In each of those folders put the relevant CDB file for that school. Set the setting in one file, and then close, and reopen the next shortcut with the other connection, and set it to the other correct server. Go back into the first one and see if the settings have remained independant. If that doesn't work or it's about as clear as mud feel free to PM me!
