  1. BOURBON CREAMS! Best. Biscuit. Ever.
  2. Marmalade is horrible and bitter. Like Tonic water. LeHusband loves it but I can't stand the bitterness.
  3. At the risk of invoking Pinkham's law on myself, it is common to 'patch test' cosmetic products before applying them to sensitive areas. I wouldn't want to slather something all over my bust only to discover an allergy tbh.
  4. Someone I work with had the op where they strip out the lining of the sinuses. It hasn't stopped her getting infections but it has slightly improved things. I get Sinusitis quite a lot - I once begged a DENTIST to help me before I found out what the actual problem was. I WILLINGLY went to a DENTIST. The pain was monumental. I have immense sympathy for you. You could try the old 'Neti pot' irrigation thing? Might also be worth pushing the docs to give you a stronger antibiotic - most of the time they will palm you off with Penicillin or Erythromycin, but there are better ones - I can't take either of those so my docs have to be inventive. I've had various tetracyclines, Septrin, and the real big guns: Metronidazol. My dentist prescribed the last one - apparently it's good for respiratory tract and bone-related things. It is a bit brutal though.
  5. There is an 'Expresso Coffee' van that I see on my commute to work, and on the back of the van he says he can be hired for 'Party's'. It annoys me every time I see him. Even more than the spelling 'Expresso'.
  6. Let me guess, it's called the Windows 'Explorer'?
  7. The gov UK website has all this info: https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-categories https://www.gov.uk/driving-licence-codes
  8. Yeah, all the 'physical' skills - woodwork, farming, gardening, animal husbandry, butchery, cooking, metalwork - when the zombies rise these will all be in high demand. Skill-up while you can! Make yourself useful!
  9. I have a fairly broad skillset - I'm crafty so I turn my hand to a LOT of things - Sewing, Cross Stitch, Dressmaking, Crochet, Jewellery making, leather work, polymer clay, hama beads etc. I like to think of them as my 'Zombie Apocalypse trade skills'...
  10. We've had this conversation a lot here, and the general consensus is that satisfaction surveys that are too onerous generally get ignored. You might find a better return rate if the questions are Yes/No with optional 'Comments' - the first two, for example - what will you do with the data? How is an 8 different from a 6 in terms of speed of resolution? You might be better served using an 'emotional' scale. Might I suggest: 1: Was the issue resolved to your satisfaction? Yes/No 2: How satisfied were you with the speed of resolution? Unsatisfied / Moderately Satisfied / Very Satisfied 3: Did the issue disrupt teaching and learning? Yes/No 4: Have you experienced this issue before? Yes/No, If yes, how many times? 5: Do you have any comments about the way your incident was handled? Also, people really only bother filling in surveys if they think it will matter. So make plans to produce a poster or some sort of short report on a quarterly/Semesterly/Yearly basis to summarise your department statistics.
  11. If you're the adventurous type you could look into getting your PGCE and NQT year out the way then teaching overseas - plenty of charities are crying out for it and it will make a difference in the world. Depends if that is your thing or not. I couldn't do it myself, but it might appeal to you?
  12. I have a degree in Geology and work for a University in IT Service Management... I also have a PGCE and can tell you that whilst it was probably the best qualification I've ever obtained, I couldn't deal with the lifestyle. It's not for everyone. I wouldn't overthink it if I were you - the trouble with a BSc is that if you want to DO anything with it, it generally means MSc's or post-grad qualifications. It's not easy to find a 'career' specifically geared towards a pure maths degree. You'll find that your degree will be more useful as a 'skills base'. If you want to 'do something' with it, look at roles in statistical analysis or some kind of lab-based analysis type role. If you want to stay in schools, you could look into bursar or finance administrator roles? But you might need some corporate experience.
  13. It can be really hard to see. You have to angle the coin 'just so' in the right light.
  14. I used to be great at this too! You know in English Lit when you're discussing poems from that anthology of works? I'd come up with some incredible-sounding male-bovine-faeces and my English teacher would lap it up like a thirsty man in a desert! The secret of adulthood that you're not allowed to teach kids is that your adult working life is basically ALL this. All those reports? Yeah, totally this. Appraisals? Yep. Project meetings? Totally. Basically any meeting ever? Obviously.
  15. LOL 'Left and Right Slippery' - my new favourite word for what I presume are runners for disk arrays? When LeHusband is assembling the kitchen I shall hand him the drawer 'slipperies' XD
  16. Gotta love Engrish. I'm not sure whether to be more entertained by the idea of 'Schleping' or qpperance, or whether to be mildly horrified at where they suggest it can be 'hung' to 'defend hurt'.... Still.... At least it isn't evaporating slippery chickens north....
  17. I downloaded a couple of mods last night but I can't get them to work - I assumed they'd be similar to WoW in that you download via Twitch (the new Curse launcher) and then start the game and you're away. But it doesn't seem to work that way. I installed the Forge thing and if I click 'Play' on the forge icon, I get a new instance with no saved worlds, so all my progress in digging my bunker is gone. It's slightly frustrating.
  18. So..... I 'accidentally' downloaded the demo of Minecraft, for 'research' and because 'reasons'... Having run around for a bit and died a few times, I 'accidentally' bought the full version. Despite being a WoW gamer, I'm a bit of a chicken in MC and am playing on 'Peaceful' mode for the time being. I've dug myself a little bunker in my starting zone of 'Savannah' and dug myself a giant staircase to the 'core' of the world where I'm basically mining the Redstone and stuff from. I DO need to find some cave spiders for some string, but I'll worry about that another time. I've found Llamas/Alpacas, Horses and all sorts. I went on an explore the other night and climbed over some mountains into Mushroom zone and the edge of Jungle zone, but then I spent over an hour trying to find my way back to my bunker. So, can more seasoned MC players help me out: - How can I transport myself around the map - How do I install Xaero's minimap mod - I can't get it to work and I REALLY need a blimmin' map! - I've not come across any diamond yet - does this only drop from mobs or in a special place? - I'm less interested in creating palaces than I am in exploring right now. What would you guys recommend I do - Are there any really useful mods for making the crafting and action bar situation less.... tedious? - How do I 'collect' animals to take back to my little farm outside the bunker? Basically, can you point a newbie sister in the direction of fun things to do in Single Player mode because if I had to ask my 11yo Nephew I might die of embarrassment...
  19. Is it wrong of me to be titillated by stupid people attempting to mess with the Queen's Guard? I think there is a general perception of them as a 'tourist attraction'. That they are not 'Serious' - like the Beefeater guards at the Tower of London (who are retired service personnel, with official duties, but whose role has become largely ceremonial since they run the tours). Because they wear unusual or strange looking uniforms, people forget that they are basically perimeter guards. They wouldn't react the same if they were in combat fatigues (for example), or body armour, yet they continually make the mistake of underestimating them. I always find these videos entertaining because the shocked reactions of the morons never gets old lol.
  20. I can't comment on this specific site, but usually sites like this have age requirements in their terms of service. If the student is underage, they are in breach of the terms of service so the parent is within their rights to contact the company and request the account be deleted. Right down the bottom of the website are a bunch of TINY links to safety tips and stuff: The parents should contact them asap. From the terms of service: Unfortunately it looks like they will need to log in to access the help centre.
  21. They do it in Iceland too - their currency is basically just high number Krona and pretty much everything is rounded up into the 10's - so something might be 1550Kr, but I don't recall ever being given anything less than 10Kr and they round up and round down because less than 10Kr is so worthless. Blah blah, psychology, blah blah foolish sheeple shoppers, blah blah something-science-y. But yes, it's tedious. Yes you have. You just didn't realise. 1 in 40 are fake. The really easy ones are the ones that are too yellow in colour (which might be challenging for colour blind people), but the easiest way to tell is to compare the front and back - if the Head and 'Tail' designs are aligned, then it's likely real, if they are misaligned then it's fake. The edges will also be too smooth and the design on the edge lacks definition. Here is an example: They look very similar but the top one is fake.
  22. You'll probably find a lot of names have been shortened over time - 'Marshman' might have been shortened to 'Marsh' - I've known a couple of 'Marsh's. Ditto for 'Hill's or 'Wood's. That is speculation ofc, but it makes sense. Surnames in Britain - particularly of the working and middle classes - were heavily place and occupation-related, but many have multiple regional spellings and variations. My maiden name, Lightfoot, has two possible stems - the first from medieval military 'Light Footmen', and the second from couriers or runners 'Lightfoot'. Similarly 'Fleetfoot' or 'Lightbody'. My current surname is one of the many spelling variants of a place-related name - Linington - the '-ton' bit denotes 'town'. But there are a massive variety of spellings, probably related to lack of literacy or misunderstandings over the centuries. I've seen 'Linnington' (in fact a lot of people spell our name with 2 N's for no apparent reason, since 2 N's is no more or less common than the other spellings), 'Lynington', 'Lynnington', 'Limington' etc. Since my surname seems to be exclusive to the Isle of Wight, I'd hazard a guess it started life centuries ago in 'Lymington' (the town), and morphed over time. I'm actually rather glad it's pretty 'boring'. Growing up a 'Lightfoot' with a weight problem led to some hurtful remarks and bullying. I'd get called 'Heavyfoot' a lot, or 'Smellyfoot' or indeed any variation on something rude about feet - 'Bigfoot', 'Fatfoot' etc. Since the surname originated a long time ago, the meanings have changed over time or are no longer relevant. The worst people can do to 'Linington' is spell it wrong.
  23. It's pretty incredible the quality you get from phones these days - my LG G3 takes amazing pictures, and the auto-HDR mode makes it easy. Half the incredible photos from our honeymoon came from my phone rather than LeHusband's Lumix. Even the Panoramas came out beautifully.
