How do I disable offline caching (as usual with MS not that helpful a log), is there a way to do this in GP. It may not be a cause of the above problem but it another one crossed off the list.

I have a very similar problem, except this is a bit worse, not only is winlogon.exe using excessive CPU it is also eating the network bandwidth (Often going to 100% in the task manager page) I just spent last week moving user profiles to a new server that was installed about 2 months ago due to a server failure. I tested loads of accounts on a test PC and they all worked fine, in fact when logging on the second time it was real quick. Then I went to test that it would work on the actual users machine and this is when I found the problem. I have uninstalled Sophos and reinstalled and that does not seem to work. So now as a precaution I have disabled the install of sophos in GP and uninstalled. This does seem to make a difference but, still chewing up bandwidth, as all profiles run over the network this will be a problem, especially when the users all login. I did some more investigation to see if the problem had some specifics and hey presto I found out that it is a Fujitsu Siemens tower model that is having the problem. It does seem to be just these machines which I suppose is a help. Can anybody give me any suggestions as to what this problem could be, yes the profiles are roaming (if that is the cause I think it is machine specific). Running a win2003 network.

I Just set up the accounts with an exchange e-mail account and disabled the e-mail in AD. They have a pop up that appears on the screen when they log in telling them by clicking ok they have read and agreed to the schools computer policy. When the policy comes back signed from the parent then I enable the e-mail for them. As the Web is filtered by our council services, there should be no reason that they come across and restricted or porn based sites. Web mails are also not available for them. We are having an induction day for the little people in a week or 2 so they have to have a log in for this.

I got this job completely out of the blue. I have never worked in education or for Local Government before. My title is "Principal ICT Technician" which really means about as much to me as a cretin us creature that has flown into my car window screen and made a mess. There is only little me looking after the IT demands of a 550 Student High School. I am actually really enjoying the job as the technology here is so old I can fix it standing on my head. The only problem being that I am on my own. So there’s no talking a problem through with anyone, the nearest thing here to someone up on IT is a mop in the Janitors cupboard. The Plus side is that I get to make all the decisions and don’t have to second guess people which is great. So in the last 5 months I have been introduced to SIMS, Lisol, PPMS and NOVA6. All is good but this site is great for talking to people who might actually have a clue about what they are talking about. So there we go, Newbie Intro out. PS - Is this website Forum an off the shelf app? If so what is it called?
