We literally have Jamie Redknapp to thank for that, who literally uses the word 'literally' in every sentence. Literally.

We're a primary, so it's only the SIMS data that is that important. -
Backing up your data - what's the best method?
quietriot1983 replied to boolyn's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
I backup to another PC (Technician's PC, with a big slave drive,) and also to another PC solely for backups in a separate part of the building. My argument is that if the whole place burnt down, the kids' word documents would be the least of our worries. -
If you're a subscriber, just send them an email telling them which number you need to start from, and they'll send you the new label sheets.

Seeking software alternatives
quietriot1983 replied to quietriot1983's topic in Educational Software
Thanks. We already have the 2Simple collection, so it's 'merely' a case of getting teacher to break from their 20-yr old habits of using the same software... I'll have a gander at mat -
You can also arrange with Capita to transfer the LEA license to your school. One-off cost of about £250.

I'm looking at replacing some of our ludicrously outdated software. Obviously I need to go in armed and ready to beg for money, but any alternatives to these pieces of software appreciated. I'll have a good look at any and all that you suggest. Granada toolkit (specifically the databases & logo) Wordshark RM Maths Thanks in advance

Recently deployed 3 new laptops. One works fine but the other 2 (both HP 625s) just won't print over the network. The server is running 2003, and the printers are a HP LJ 1010 and a HP ColourLJ 2600n. The 2600 driver went in no probs, but all 3 laptops needed the HP Universal Print driver to get the 100 to go. As I say, one laptop is fine, but when you print to either printer from the other 2, you get an exclamation mark and an error...with no explaination. Any ideas? Drivers have been played around with, given full admin controls to account etc.

On Windows 7, download Windows Live Movie Maker. Much better than the movie maker of old.

I have a banner in publisher, very simple, it's a big image spread over 2 pages, with a WordArt text overlay. Looks fine. When I come to print it, it is printing the left hand 50% of the image on both pages, yet the wordart is printing out correctly, across both pages. Is there a setting I've clicked somewhere? This seems a daft issue, never seen anything like it!

I know, I know, this software is older than I am. I've just taken receipt of 2 new staff laptops, so kitting them out with all the software that the kids use etc etc. All gone great, but Granada Toolkit just will not install, even in compatibility mode(s). Has anyone managed to get it working? Or should I take this as the start of phasing out its use?

Sorry, forgot I even posted this. I ended up curing the problem by using CloneZilla instead. Had to reclone all 30 machines, like, but it's done now!
-
Yes. Easiest way to do it really.

I have 30 Samsung N145s here, installed XP and all our relevant software, drivers, patches etc onto one of them, then used True Image (from a boot CD) to do a disk to disk clone onto the other 29. When I come to putting the drives back in and booting them up, I'm getting a mixture of 3 errors, some of each: Black screen with white flashing cursor top left, nothing else or NTLDR is missing or Disk read error occured So something is wrong, clearly, but recloning doesn't seem to work, although I have managed to get 5 working by recloning. Any suggestions as to what might cause this?

I suggest sending a letter to both sets of parents just saying the above. -
Hmm. I'm thinking of going down the route of having a proxy set up by Exa for the kids' machines/filtering, and doing the staff filtering as normal. Not sure how feasible that is just yet though.
-
Anyone use this product from Exa-Networks? Having a bit of trouble seeing how I can (eventually - it's not urgent yet!) have different filtering rules for Staff and Kids when I only have one IP address.

We have a page - St. Paul's Crompton Street - Official | Facebook Set up with a few things in mind: Stopping the legions of pages set up by pupils, Quick contact with (albeit not all) parents, Embracing social media rather than treating it as the bad guy. We have a few rules too, only myself and the headteacher have the password, absolutely no pictures of pupils on there, and any current pupils found 'liking' the pages are booted off and reported, seeing as they shouldn't be on FB anyway.

I have this inside a logon script. Works fine. cd "c:\documents and settings\all users\desktop\" del *.* /Q -
Thanks for all the offers of help, it is much appreciated! I've successfully got System Admin details off the outgoing support desk, so will try a dbattach backup ASAP.
-
I meant to say that I did it that way because the Focus > System option is not there. And if I did it through dbattach, the credentials were not correct :/ Where might I find the SQL directory structure?
