They will try because the poor widdle accounts can't get their heads around the concept of IT. Which I find amazing given the complixitys of tax law are much like a Microsoft Licensing agreement.

Anybody want to take a bet that even if it did work, it would crucify the T-servers?

RANGER is a product by Sentinal that plugs itself into the AD. It allows you control just about everything and get reports about just about everything. Its not too expensive off bat, with a yearly 1K for 300PC support. you also get free upgrades. Its not for everybody and it will not work for Thin-Client. It can also be a royal pain in the ass if it screws with a roaming profile. I like it, but wouldn't say its for the fainhearted

I am not sure I would want to only be within two degrees of the battery limits, on the other hand if you turn of the AC in my room at the moment it slams the temp up at 10c every 15 mins - so its a moot point.

I would have said yes, can you turn around and bend over a tick

Thats interesting as I was recently (last week) informed by our Air con man that any lower than 20 degrees C is likely to cause a static build up & condensation could start to become an issue. Thats a new one How can static build up if its all earthed? As to condensation, most Air-Cons draw the water out, so in my case at the moment its running out into a sink. To some extent having the room dired out is a good thing as hummity is much worse than just being hot.

The plain fact is that whatever the school chooses to do - it’s a criminal act and it can be pursued via the Police regardless of whatever you school feels about it. Personally there is not a teacher, manager or other body that would prevent me from suing the little git into oblivion - that is assuming that in the 1st instance they had not been carrying a weapon, which is becoming a common problem, & 2nd instance they had the good sense not to resist the resultant arm lock and frog march to the nearest Police officer. If either the above had been broached then I am very well versed in what the law actually says about 'reasonable force'. To wit - if there is a clear or suspected danger to YOU, a 3rd PARTY or the ATTACKER - you are entitled to use whatever reasonable means needed to PREVENT said danger. There is no 'like-for-like' rule on force, nor is there a blanket rule on not touching a child forcibly. However - What ever you do, you WILL have to answer for it in a court room, so do not treat the subject lightly or with causal ease. The number one problem is at some point we allowed children to get the idea that there is never any come-back and they are somehow immortal. This is a failing of us the adults. It will not change until the message is sent loud and clear that the adults are in charge and you will tow the line or you will be in a jail cell for your pains.

What ever you pick it will be expensive and devalue faster than a Lada driven off the edge of Beachy Head. so unlesss you have a lot of disposable income, have you considered a poratble gaming rig instead, thats more like driving a Volvo off Beachy Head. Its still becomes junk at the end but its more powerful and worth more until the end.

Exchange has a lot of bells & whistles that I would bet most schools do not need or use. I do use it beacuse I inherited it - 5.5 on an ADC for christs sake :-( However now its 2003 on a pure 2003 AD, though for some reason it will only work if the server is an ADC - ???!!! (any ideas on that would be welcome) I am told there are several free systems that would work well, we use Cutter for our TC solution, I belive they may have some ideas for you.

A note about abruptly joining a union, Most if not all will not handle an existing issue at point of joining Most if not all will be extremely leery of anything major in the 1st 3-months They are not being unreasonable, it can cost a fair bit to defend somebody and they are not just there for your bad times, they are supposed to be there for everybody. The best advice is to join a union off-bat, from personal experience it’s a wise investment in personal legal protection - unless you are labouring under some illusion the school/LEA will bail you out if things go pear-shaped. My advice - Go and talk to a professional - IE a solicitor, most run a fixed fee interview and can advise you of your position. This charge is around £50 - £100 depending on solicitors. If you can't afford it - go to a citizen’s advice centre. With the best will in the world, everybody else is nothing more than a well meaning amateur.

Child Support the CSA screwed up Don't they always. :-( Huge sympathy, try not to let it get to you too much.

You should maintaint he room at 18 - this allows a degree of headroom should the Air-Con fail to keep up. Note that while a good server can keep itself runnning everytime it goes past its recommended operating temp you are reducing (at leat potential) its lifespan. You are certianly reducing the life of the fans. In my case the units will run with an ambiant of 38c and an internal of 45c - but thats skating on thin ice. You must also remember that if you have any UPS battiers your are looking at serious problems if they exceed 24c.

Old equipment disposal - Free companies?
Firefly_Transport replied to park_bench's topic in Recommended Suppliers
I used this contact; please rember though they are not a dumping ground. They will come an take away a great deal stuff with good warning and have been very helpful in put working but redudant equipment back to use. They will have to dispose of anything they cannot use and charge you for that - however that charge has been rather better than average. Feel free to contact me if you want to know/checkup on anything. Contact: Dave George ICT Manager Cooke e-Learning Foundation 5 Herbert Avenue Belgrave Leicester LE4 5DW Tel: 0116 2661050 -

Any one used a company called Mikesoft?
Firefly_Transport replied to Kyle's topic in Recommended Suppliers
Tempting to start a poll: How many sales calls can you get reception to bounce BEFORE the head askes you to create a 'trashcan' voicemail? In my case it was the point the receptionist began making up stories about my fact finding tour of the middle east....... (Don't you just love the April/May budget release - everybody loves you - and your capitation fund) -
ah well fortantly we have RANGER, so we just lock it down to the group in question. I find having a clearly visable differance between groups/years is also very useful - it means that Teachers can see anybody on as some body they shouldn't be. We also use it to display students on restriction for mucking about - again makes it simpler for the teacher to tell if the student is/been a problem online.
