I assume you mean logging into FMS and not Windows? A hub? Eeeek! We still have schools that use them, so can't moan too much. Where does your "SIMS FMS Module" icon point to? C:\SIMS\FMSLOAD.EXE "C:\SIMS\Finance.exe" Or... S:\SIMS\FMSLOAD.EXE "S:\SIMS\Finance.exe" The latter will mean you are dragging the "Finance.exe" program across the network. Far better when installing FMS to have the program files local. Re-install FMS on the workstation (using a 6.82 or above CD) and when you reach the screen "Network Installation Components", select the top two options, then on the next screen "Where is the SIMS Directory?", type C:\SIMS (CD's prior to 6.82 will over-write S:\SIMS\Setups\FMSApplicationSetup.exe and its signature file, so make a copy first!) If it is still slow, read the tail end of FinanceC.pdf and look at the page 55 (as shown on the bottom of the page, not in the Adovbe window!)

...and in the mean time, set your backup to do one part of the data on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other half on Tuesday and Thursday. I assume you have got rid of all the junk files that you can?

Having re-read the original post, it seems likely that the above will not fix it. Not enough tea in this office y'see!

We have had a problem like this in one school. Multiple entries in the "Tools - Setups - Document Management Server" area do not show up as seprate lines, try deleting the one you already have. If you then still have another.... that may be your problem. If you then have none, close the window but DO NOT save your changes. As always, please ensure you have a VALID BACKUP before trying this on live data.

Windows 2003 Domain with XP-SP3 clients. Before we installed SP3 the "My Documents" folder pointed to seperate network shares for each user. \\servername\homes$\%username% After SP3 was deployed we found they all pointed to one users folder (which they had no access to!) Rolling back SP3 has cured the problem. Thought it worth giving you a "Heads up" on it.

When using data recovery software, remember anything you "Install" will over-write the hard disk and possibly get rid of the very data you are trying to recover. Either remove the hard disk and recover data with it installed as a slave in another PC (after imagining it!), or use some kind of OS ona CD-DVD. Been there, done that, formatted a schools Admin PC and felt the cold sweat rolling down my neck when I realised I ahd not backed it up first! In that case I turned it off (very, VERY quickly) and all was well. The man who never made a mistake, never made anything! Hope you get the data back!

If I remember from the very early days of the technology, you need two LNB's if you want to watch two channels that have different polarization. That is one is vertically polarized and the other horizontally polarized. But looking at.. All About Satellite it now appears there are four types. So four LNB's would be require to cover all the bases. If Sky+ uses two, I would assume it's because it just uses vertical and horizontal. See also... Most software and hardware stuff mention will be useless if your hard disk is toast. Dropped the laptop? While it was running per chance? Imagine the read/write head smacking into the data platter while it is spinning? Experience is a wonderfull teacher. There is a lovely grove on the disk platter of my USB caddy, received when it did the table to floor dash on evening. A data recovery company is the only way.

Run C:\SQLANY50\WIN32\DBSVMN50.EXE to run the SQL Server Manager console. Then click on "remove". If you want to keep it for the time being, stop and disable it in "Computer Management - Services" Look for "SQL Anywhere - SIMS_SQL_DB_Server"

Your users need to be members of the "Local power users" group. Does each workstations c:\windows\sims.ini point to the correct "Setups" folder? After running SOLUS to upgrade FMS the local program files will be updated and so should the database (once only- and BACK IT UP FIRST!! S:\SIMS\SQL?)

Many moons ago I was asked to "FOX fix" an old FMS (DOS) error where the user had edited the old D-Base files in Excel. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a tree trunk unless it was dummy data.
