  1. Used PRM Greentech a few times without problem. However had a bad experience before the summer. Basically we had 7 PC’s, 12 laptops, 12 CRT’s and 6 projectors. they were going to collect. Unfortunately someone stole the laptops and projectors the night before. When PRM Greentech arrived they didn't take a thing as it didnt match their list. I got the impression they were only interested in "high value" stuff, ie laptops and projectors. So now we are still stuck with these CRT monitors and base units. PRMs response was "On the sheet was the following items. 7 PC’s, 12 laptops, 12 CRT’s, 6 projectors. "To insure that our nationwide free service continues , we require at the time of booking correct numbers this ensures that we can physically get the collection on the van and also as a business we can plan our sales strategy. As you can appreciate we turn up to many schools were the staff/parents have taken ICT equipment, this puts the whole business model in jeopardy and also if the laptops/base units have any personal data on them you will receive a massive fine from the ICO. Please all I would like ask you to do in the future is to reiterate to your school how important it is to give you the correct numbers otherwise this service will be forced to stop" I see their point, but why come all this way and not take a thing??
  2. Hi there, Has anyone had any trouble opening Notebook files from explorer in SmartNotes 10.8? Whenever a teacher tries to open a file, they get a yellow exclamation mark and it then closes.: It works fine if you open a file with FILE >> OPEN etc. I've tried several uninstalls/reinstall and installing version 10.0 again, its like 10.8 is stuck there! Two versions then appear in Control Panel! I installed it from scratch on a new machine and imaged the machine etc. The machines are i3 Cores, with XP SP3.
  3. If you already have a previous version, they will send you the upgrade for £29.95 plus P&P if you email them. However you have to send back the original disks.
  4. Hi, I cannot get any of the poems to play, checked all the settings, flash is up to date and still no joy. An example poem :Each Happiness Ringed by Lions by Jane Hirshfield - Poetry Archive Maybe the recordings are hosted somewhere the LEA blocks? Just tried website on HTC Desire and it played fine I had a look at the HTML, and this bit looks interesting? var so = new SWFObject("flash/paAudioPlayer.swf", "flashPlayer", "232", "86", "10", "#336699"); so.addParam("wmode", "transparent"); so.addParam("allowScriptAccess", "always"); so.addVariable("rtmpSource", "rtmpe://media.poetryarchive.org/poetryarchive"); so.addVariable("strSource", "mp3:10746_poems_audio_1970_each_happiness_ringed_by_lions"); so.addVariable("stageW", 232); so.addVariable("stageH", 86); so.addVariable("trackName", "Each Happiness Ringed by Lions"); so.addVariable("trackPoet", "Jane Hirshfield"); so.addVariable("nextPrevBtns", false); so.addVariable("trackInfoLbls", false); so.write("flashMediaPlayer"); My guess is either rtmpe: protocol is blocked, or it cant pick up the proxy settings
  5. The ones in our machines are Western Digital ones, the model number in device manager is: WDCWD1600AAJS-00L7A0 When ours die, the bios stops detecting them.
  6. Hi there, We bought 20 PCs in the summer from a a major supplier, about 6 of them have hard disk failures. Two of the machines are now on the 3rd HDD. To the suppliers credit, they send a new hard drive out next day and collect the old one when we ask them. They also offer to send out an engineer if we want. Apart from reporting the failed HDD each time, is there anything else one can do? Im tempted to reject the lot, but it would involve a lot of hassle. It takes me about 45 mins to replace the HDD and deploy the image again via WDS etc.
  7. I dont think CTFS can export class names, so if you have a 4 form primary school its quite annoying to select 25 children out of 100 individually. Whereas if you have the class names already imported you dont have to enter them manually.
  8. (Applied to people like me who used CSVs exported from SIMS.net,so Eprofile would pick up reg groups) Thought last year was hard making all those CSVs etc? Spend hours changing the date of birth? Well, dont worry, it now requires EVEN MORE information if you wish to import class names, as opposed to the CTF from SIMS.net which doesn't! Version 3.2 requires (and 3.15 ) the following fields: DFE LA Number (3 digits), DFE Establishment number (4 digits) or, for a PVI, URN (6 digits), Year (same as the cohort you choose when you open eProfile), UPN, Surname, Forename, Gender, Date of birth, Class,Postcode So from a a simple(!?): Y123456789123,Bucket,Hycanith,F,02/07/2005,Class RG D123456789123,Bucket,Richard,M,22/03/2005,Class RB Now becomes this: 123,1234,2011,Y123456789123,Bucket,Hyacinth,F,02/07/2005,Class RG 123,1234,2011,D123456789123,Bucket,Richard,M,22/03/2005,Class RB Think one will be using the CTF method and inputting the classes manually!
  9. Hi, Dont know if anyone can help, but can anyone recommend a email to sms gateway/service thingy. Its for my aunt who runs a dog grooming business. She is not very computer literate and doesn't check her emails much, maybe once a week. She does however get a lot of traffic to her website and about a few emails a day. So after giving up telling her to check her email each day, I wondered if she could receive a SMS when she has an email, plus keeping the email on the server. i.e, someone emails [email protected] it sends the message to, 07770 123456 etc. Her domain name email just forwards, so it can be changed to direct to another email address. Thanks for any help.
  10. Does anyone know if a (Casio) representative will come out and demonstrate them? Our LEA would be interested in seeing them in use. Or if any schools in West/East Sussex are using them?
  11. Hi , Sorry this has been sold, the secondary across the road wanted it!
  12. Hi, We have got one of these not being used, a cabling contractor supplied it last year, but the LEA weren;t happy and gave us a Cisco switch. It has sat turned off in our cabinet for about 10 months, thought it was about time I got rid of it. Worked fine when I turned it on this morning and connected a few machines to it. Complete with power lead and front/side brackets. Might also be on Ebay as well (will update with link). Any offers, maybe £50, plus £10 postage? ? More info: Answer
  13. Because the CTF does not export registration groups.
  14. What are you lot doing to import the data in? - CTF, and they input class details manually - CSV which includes these details, but requires setting up. or any other method!!
  15. I emailed sparklebox and they apologised and they would sort it out. The LEA said thanks and said we were one the few LEAs to allow it!
  16. Morning all, A teacher just searched for "WILF" on sparklebox, its a resource poster for "What I'm Looking For". Anyway, down the right hand side their were google ads for lonely housewives and MILF dating! I am guessing google picked up on WILF and thought I meant MILF! Do you think Sparklebox or the LEA should be told? Screenshot Enclosed
  17. This may be relevant, from dealing with Eprofile over the years, the most common two problems are: The date must be correct and ot must be in UK format, ddmmyy not mddyy etc. A printer must be installed, even if it doesn't exist! Ie a HP Deskjet 660c In the manual there is this: I keep getting an “Access Violation” error Another piece of software is trying to use the memory space on the computer that has already been allocated by Windows to eyeProfile. This is not the fault of eyeProfile. It is the fault of the offending software. Unfortunately, the error message doesn’t tell you which software is causing the problem, but experience suggests that it is likely to be a badly-written printer or other device driver. If the problem occurred after you installed some new device to work with the computer then it may well be that this is to blame. Uninstall and remove it and see whether eyeProfile works correctly after that. Source: http://schoolsportal.suffolkcc.gov.uk/schools/FSP/eyFSPUserGuideV3.pdf
  18. Thanks, Basically there were 3 sockets in the attic room upstairs, which is now basically a storeroom. (it had steep stairs to it and was a H&S issue, so no longer used for small group work etc.) I asked them to move 2 of the sockets in to the new classroom below, as the original run goes past the new classroom, I asked if they could "hijack" this run and place 2 new sockets, using this run in the classroom. What they did was exactly that, but the existing cable wouldn't reach any further than where they put the sockets now. However when they came in to quote I pointed out where the sockets should go, ie one near exsiting computer and one near window. I mistakenly assumed these would be put near the ground like the 32 other sockets (& every other socket in the school!) they installed in our new ICT suite last year. I agree there has been a communication issue between myself and the caretaker, but common sense has somewhat been lacking here. However me and the school willl learn from this. The LEA and governors may write to them and complain. The LEA has a list of cabling contractors with comments from schools on, and no doubt this will be added to it.
  19. Update: The Head and them had a long phone conversation and she has agreed for them to correct it for £75 as she doesnt want a fight on her hands.
  20. update: the head has just phoned them up and kicked off
  21. Hi there, We had two network sockets relocated during half term basically from the room above, to the room below. According to the caretaker they “didnt have enough cable” and installed the sockets high up, almost near the ceiling. They could of comeback, but the caretaker thought it was best to get the job done there and then I don’t know who to blame, the caretaker for saying “just get it done” or the company for not having enough cable in the first place. Update: They just rang and said the cable they re-ran wasn’t long enough, hence the high sockets. They are now saying the whole cable needs to be re-run if we want it lower down. When they came in to quote, I told them where to relocate the sockets, one near existing computer and one near window. I would of though the quote would have accounted for this. Any advice appreciated! Pictures are enclosed.
  22. Forgot to add, it seems to be a dynamic database, ie it updates all the time. Basically I installed it on two PCs and pointed them both to the same database. Now, on PC1 I went to Child A and changed some assessment data and went to Child B and did the same on PC2 I went to Child C changed some data, and went back to Child B. The data changed on PC1 was already there. The only bad thing I can imagine happening is if for example Teacher A quits Eprofile and backs up to the shared drive and then Teacher B messes up the data and does a backup when they quit to the same folder on the same day. It created a backup in a folder based on todays date. However with Reception teachers only looking at their classes children, it should be unlikely that two teachers would be on the same child? Also if you import a CTF it doesn't import class names, only a CSV does. However with exporting a CSV from SIMS, you have to edit the CSV in Excel and change the DOB filed to dd/mm/yyyy not 01-Jan-05 (eg). The CSV format is: UPN,Firstname,Surname,Gender,DOB,Class,Postcode (I think)
  23. The new version can be downloaded here: eProfile This is basically how I have installed it to share the data on the network: Please note these instructions are not 100% official, I am currently working with the LEA in testing this and producing documentation for our techicians. !!!If you are overwriting an existing version, run the old version and do a backup first.!!! - Install EProfile as normal. - Create a text file called DataFolder.txt and place it in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FSP\Version3 - Inside DataFolder.txt just write the path to where you want to store the data, eg: T:\E-Profile\2010 (no final slash) For some reason UNC paths do not work properly, it can read the data but wont write back to it when doing a backup! To check it works, run EProfile (adding school details if necessary), then click Help, then about. It should say Work Folder = t:\e-profile\2010 If installing it on multiple machines, i have created a batch file I run after installing EProfile: copy T:\e-profile\DataFolder.txt "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FSP\Version3" You only need to import the pupils and add school details on the 1st installation, as the other machines will pick it up. If Eprofile cannot find the shared drive (or the file is in the wrong place) it will revert back to c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\fsp\version3" !! If you are upgrading, simply do a restore !!
  24. Does anyone know where I can get a fuser unit for the HP3600n? Our usual supplier (Supplies for Schools) can't supply any, and a quick search on the net says everywhere is out of stock! The part number is: RM1-2743 Thanks for any advice
