We are looking at allowing pupils to access Seneca learning for their revision. This has been very positively reviewed but we have seen that they require giphy to be whitelisted for all users. Although it states in their t&c that racist and pornographic material is not allowed on the GIPHY site, there are plenty of incidence where they can be found. Has anybody whitelisted GIPHY or had a discussion with eSafety regarding blocking/allowing it. Thanks

We are about to move into office 365 with our 550 pupils and staff. We recently upgraded our broadband to 300/400 Mbps. Currently we use about a third of the bandwidth and even that is mainly YouTube, Netflix etc. A few questions are being asked: What level of increase was caused by 365 at other schools/ how quickly did it go up. Are bottlenecks created by class sets logging on at the same time at the beginning of lessons across school Recommended traffic shaping for office 365 Any comments greatly appreciated

we are about to move our pupils onto 365 accounts from our mail servers. The issue that has been repeatedly raised by SLT is the level of filtering/ protection that we will get from day one with EOP. I would really appreciate some feedback and recommendation on your experiences in a school environment. We will consider adding a third- party tool if needed but the immediate question is whether it will protect pupil (and staff to certain degree) from exposure to unsuitable material. Our puremessage filter worked well in the past.
-
We are just starting to migrate some staff over to 365 and noticed that much more spam/junk/malware is coming through than we had with Puremessage. Before we can make it available to pupils, we need to fine tune the settings. Would anybody be able to share their set ups? Do you have: Sensitive Word List enabled? Bulk Mail threshold level? (7 - as default or set lower?) Advanced option used?

Slighlty confused.... Beginning of 2011 we were told that RDS Cals were not included in the EES. Do we have to buy them separately (similar to Visio, Project etc) - if so how much are people paying for it?

^^Bump Any users at all? Saw the demo today but no prices were given. It looks good with plenty of content.

bump up.... Anybody used them or using alternative providers?

As a boarding school we allow boarders to have access to skype at the weekend to call friends and family abroad. Since we implemented the filter Skype stopped working as it doesn't seem to understand proxy settings. We tested one laptop and pointed it straight at our second (open) firewall it worked immediately. We obviously don't want to advertise this second firewall to pupils. Has anybody experienced something similar?

We are having pretty much the same issue with Sophos WS500 and any Ipad/iphone etc trying to connect. Has anybody got a solution yet? -
TV recorder - looking for instructions to build your own
balticstar replied to balticstar's topic in Hardware
Obviously, the extension of this issue is the fact that one could concentrate fully on using internet material only (TV station website, youtube etc). Has anybody got some experience in running a working set-up whereby teachers could easily ask for scheduled programmes to be recorded in a usable format (considering that you have iplayer, ITVplayer, skyplayer, frenchTV player etc) -
I recently saw some very detailed instructions to build a "Media Center" with Satellite TV and digital TV all recordable onto harddrive in a PC magazine - problem is I lost it. I thought it was perfect for recording all these different channels for MFL, politics etc as it had a good GUI as well that would make recordings easy. Alternatively, if you know of any good links or have instructions that you can share, please let me know. Kind regards

AB Tutor every time - good functionality at a good price. If you buy 3 or more the price drops to £140.

Moodle or Sharepoint are both very attractive for variety of reasons. With the School Agreements from Microsoft you now get all Sharepoint features for "free" as well. Whatever you start with, ensure that the content is not platform specific and can be moved easily around afterwards; otherwise your first decision will be very important. Teachers don't like change and I wouldn't recommend anybody swapping platforms just because they can or want to.

Had the same issue with CD Burner XP recently but couldn't resolve it. Thanks for the hint.

We are about to advertise for an experienced Network Manager position in the South-East (west of London). Since the last time this topic was raised 3 years ago on Edugeek, a number of pay reviews and conditions have changed. Are we still looking at about 2 months notice period for senior candidates? Are these tied to end of term/end of months or 60 days from handing letter of resignation in? Current plan is for new NM in place by Feb half-term latest
