So after seeing in another thread someone mention rep and posts, and wanting an excuse to play with excel 2010 as my skills with it are very rusty. I thought I would do a completely unscientific graph of the amount of rep per posts on this forum. I got my sample by viewing "Today's Posts" and going through 3 pages of results, looking at every thread on each page to gather usernames (so I didn't have the same user more than once), posts, rep. There was obviously more than 3 pages of results but I decided to stop there. I deleted all the usernames! And then made graphs from there. Here they are one with all 275 users in the sample, and the other with users whose posts were below 1000 (because in the main graph it is difficult to see them). I apologise in advance if this ticks people off.

We use Python 3.2

It's going to be interesting to see what is included in this new computing curriculum, once the consultation is over.

Thank you both for your help , I think we'll defintely go down the AFP route to avoid problems with mac software.

I saw that software mentioned in an article but I'm going to give @HodgeHi and @morganw point's a try, especially as we have an X serve and AFP is enabled just not in use at the mo. Thank you for your help, if you want I'll let you know how I get on with shares and our X serve, if you're thinking about some Apple storage for use with Logic.

Do you have a AFP share only or both windows and AFP shares available? As currently the Macs map the home directory to our windows share, would it be worth just pointing them to an AFP share only? Sorry if it's a dumb question but are the mac's picking up the mappings through the AD user account or the settings when binding to AD? I was wondering because do I need to point to the AFP share through AD user account or through WGM? @morganw I'll need to check when I'm in tomorrow but it could be like you said and that the project folder needs to be saved to their user area, and not just the project file. I've not been there when they save the first time but I'll definitely give this a try. AFAIK when they are opening the project file on another mac, it opens just without any of original audio, edits. So that could well be the solution. I'll check the permissions if necessary. Thank you both I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow.

Hi, I'm completely new to macs (but have been given responsibility for them), we have magic triangle set up, and the clients that are using logic are snow leopard, the mac server is also snow leopard. When a user is saving work on logic, they go Save as and then save to their user area (which is a windows share). After saving their work on one mac if they move to another mac they can't see the files they saved to their windows share, is logic pro saving some of the files locally? Also I've been asked to give just the music students a share on the mac server, would this solve the logic issue by saving to a mac server and not a windows server or am I barking up the wrong tree? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Sam

Sorry to drag an old thread back up. But after recently seeing a youtube video about The InfoSecMentors Project - Be a mentor! Make a difference! - Home, I wondered if there was something similar for IT technician's. There doesn't appear to be, though perhaps I didn't look hard enough. But a mentoring scheme similar to theirs would be beneficial for not only a technician starting their career but also the mentor. For the technician starting out it could be useful to have someone who can suggest good technical books, pieces of software useful to the job, advice on dealing with unhappy customers/teachers/students, or just ways of organising and prioritising tasks etc etc. For the mentor, it could be a chance to give back to the technician community where if they were once mentored they can then pass on their knowledge. It would also be a chance to know your making a difference in not only the school/college/uni you work in, but also the school/college/uni in which the technician works. Hopefully like the infosec scheme those that are mentored could then go on to mentor another technician in time. Though perhaps as russdev says and thus it could be a completely unnecessary thing now.

Definitely worth a try, especially the paying for uni, with the fee rises hopefully they'll be sympathetic and see sense that it sounds like an innocent mistake.

Seconded RegShot is great though you need to work out what changes happen in the normal course of the computers operation and then separate them from the actual results(changes) for the specific program.
