  1. Hi Guys Thanks for the replys and ideas. As far as I can gather from him he wants to do the design and gameplay. I think the programming and coding is something he likes to play around with. He's very into Minecraft, he's played with java and has been using python in school. It's quite difficult at the moment he knows what he wants to do but has no idea where to get started. I'll look into all your suggestions with him and then he can decide what it is he actually wants to do. Thanks again H
  2. Hi My 11 year old son is looking for some software that can help him design games, mainly building world with characters. He's had a look at some of the free stuff out there but it doesn't seem to be what he's looking for. I'm just wondering if anyone out there can recommend anything free or paid for. He's quite technical and has started playing around with coding, programing and scripts but at a very basic level. I am an IT technician but I only deal with fixing things and installing things so any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance H
  3. I'll have a go but it flashes up and goes away so quickly that it took me 4 goes to work out what it was saying.
  4. I have just been through the scripts and can't fina anything that is using runas. The scripts are very basic just drives and printers. It doesn't seem to stop the children doing anything it's just very frustrating.
  5. Hi I support a primary school that seem to be having an issue with runas. When a student logs on to a laptop a command line box appears very briefly which asks for the admin password. In the top right hand corner it comes up with C:\windows\system32\runas. I can't get the box to stay open long enough to see if there are any other messages or information. Does anyone know how to stop this happening? Many thanks
  6. Hi I am hoping someone can help. I am having a problem with pivot on one machine, when logged on as a student and you try to save it throws up this error "Access violation at address 763BAE21 in module 'comdlg32.dll'read of address 0000000". Under admin it works fine. I have checked all the permissions and reinstalled the most up to date version of pivot and Googled it but with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Hiya I had a look at everything and installed RSAT on the laptop but think it may now be a profile issue as when I log on as an Admin and check the users the pupil user names are in there, when I delete them and log off and on again they reappear. I've checked the registry and followed the instructions to adjust some of the settings but it still won't logon as the pupils, I get a user profile error. I am going to try a rebuild next week from scratch unless any one has any other ideas. Many thanks
  8. Thanks for all the advice, I'm there today so will have a go and see what happens. Thanks again
  9. Hi I work at a primary school as tech support, they have a Windows 2003 server. I have built a windows 7 machine but it won't let the pupils log on when it's in the pupil group in AD, it looks like it's a Group Policy issue and I was wondering if any one knew of somewhere I can get some advice on GPO's. The school runs a workstation profile for the students and a internet URL policy and these seem to be the 2 that are causing issues. The laptop will log on with a tempoary profile when not trying to run the GPO's. Any help would be appreciated.
  10. Hi Hoping this is the right forum. We have a member of staff who keeps losing her staff drives, she logs on the scripts run but no drives appear. She can still access the internet ok and when a GPUpdate is run they come back. Deleting her profile also resolves the issue temporarily. We can't find anything wrong with the machine or the network connection and she is the only member of staff with the issue. Any advice would be great.
  11. Hi I am having a problem with a HP3600 printer and none of the HP sites I've been or are any help. The printer randomly seems to report a paper jam in the front cover, I did find a hidden bit of paper but thge message still comes up, I have cleaned and air sprayed uit but still no luck - the Event log reports a CPR sensor out of range - I did google this but I couldn't make head nor tail of what they were saying. Any advice would be gratefully received It also clicks when you turn it on and off, I narrowed it down to a Fuser presure release motor, possibly need a new fuser but just wanted to check.
  12. After some extra research have found the answer. The settings in the SOPHOS console have to be changed rather than just on individual machines. Open SOPHOS enterprise console - in the bottom left hand side is a box called policies - extend Anti-virus and HIPS - double click the policies you want to change and click configure under on-access scanning - untick write and make sure read is ticked click ok on both boxes - then under the groups box (above the policies box) right click each group - click view/edit group policy details - check that the groups are running the policies you changed - SOPHOS will automatically push out the changes. Hope that all makes sense
  13. Hi Hoping this is the right place to post. I work as am IT technician supporting primary schools and one of the schools I work for has a problem with word 2003 ever since SOPHOS was updated when the staff take their laptops home word freezes completely and the only way to get the laptop up and running is to completely switch it off and then on again. It only tends to happen when saving or copying and pasting from other areas. They also have problems when synching the laptop when back on the network it won't sync any jpg files and instead of syching to their home drive it will sync to their staff drive even though all the settings are correct. I have found one solution under SOPHOS to turn off the on-write under on accessing. That seems to have worked for some people but not others. Any advice would be great Thanks
