I know i am replying to my self.. but I am starting to wonder if its the DPM DB that we have restored.... so tonight I am going to connect to my sims server, detatch the DB copy it, then re-attach it.. couple of ?'s A) is that safe B) would it be a better option to stop the sql server, then just copy the db? Thanks Brett

I would love for sophos to be able to be deployed via a msi with setting to auto update for imaging

Ok thanks for that wonder if thats just a hangover from the 2000-2005 upgrade on the old system.
-
Well.. Its a brand new system... Tested dns and all seems good I can A) ping vs-sims b) ping vs-sims.domain.local c) nslookup vs-sims all resolve to the right ips (tested from 3 machines)

The_Windy_Miller > Tried that, same problems.... Phoned our sims team, asked for instructions on how to do it , their answer -- We don't have any.. you can pay us 25(or 50 can not remember)/hour for us to do it for you.... Seems to be very little info online as well

I am having the same problem, any advise on how to get round/sort it is appricated. here is what I have done to date (This is on a new sims server on a brand-new domain) Installed the Server (2008) Installed SQL 2005 Installed SQL 2005 SP2 Copied our simsroot folder from a backup (DPM) Restored our copy of sims.mdf and sims.ldf from our dpm server (to a file then copied to the server) shared the simsroot folder as simsoot / mapped to S: Ran s:\sims\setups\simssqlapplicationsetup.exe , put the files in the right sql db Ran dbattach (which worked) ran simsinst and installed sims workstation and document storage server altered s:\sims\connect.ini to point to the right server. ran sims and pointed it to s:\sims\connect.ini tried to logon to sims and get SIMS Connection failed for login ITAdmin , reason: 0 ARGHHHHHHH Just one thing for people to note.. do not have any users with ' in the logon name.. it causes the db not to attach (2formats later and i am here) Thanks for any pointers Brett

We have sucessfully migrated to 2007 and would like a book that i can use for referance / learning. Any suggestions on what to buy? Thanks Brett

Hi all, I am currently in the process of migrating our current 2003 R2 domain to 2008 I have tested this in a small virtual enviroment and it seemed to go ok...... Just wondered on your view on this If I have all the 5 fsmo roles on 1 virtual server and back that up before the migration. If it went wrong would I be able to power that back on and forcefully remove the other dcs from the domain so that server takes over the domain roles and we will still be on 2003-r2??? How ever if it does go ok, I will let you know! Thanks Brett
