  1. Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Yes it is the tools button. It was hidden in IE8 but since moving to IE9 it appears on the toolbar as a gear symbol and the existing GPOs don't seem to hide it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Dear all, I am trying to remove the gears icon that appears in IE9 to stop our students accessing it via GPO. Is there anyway to do this? We had our GPOs running smoothly for IE8, but with IE9 the gears icon appears and gives some access. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Dan.

  4. Dear all, I have recently started using the gpo 'run only specified windows applications' and have added in various EXEs e.g.winword.exe However for some reason now when I logon the taskbar/start menu has gone into what appears to be classic mode. Do I need to allow a specific EXE for themes/Aero to run? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  5. We already have the home directories set up within one shared folder e.g. Top Level e.g. H: Drive THEN Folder e.g. Home Directories (Shared) THEN Sub Folder(s) e.g. Staff, Students, Parents THEN Sub Folders(s) e.g. various specific accounts under the folders above. What permissions do I need to put in place on the domain users to allow them to access the Home Directories folder for Read access but not be able to see it or the immediate sub folders below it? I only want users to see their own area and yet at present if for example the extract a zip file and it asks them to browse the network then they can see all the directories above their own area, I want to stop this being the case. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  6. Dear all, I don't know if someone could shed some light on this for me or what I am doing wrong, I have a folder structure set up as follows: Top Level e.g. H: Drive THEN Folder e.g. Home Directories THEN Sub Folder(s) e.g. Staff, Students, Parents THEN Sub Folders(s) e.g. various specific accounts under the folders above. How do I set the security permissions so that users can navigate their folders and have Read Write and Modify, but hide the folder structure above and also deny access to them. ** So ideally all users would see is their own folder, and have access only to their own folder. ** Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards.
  7. Dear all, I've recently set up 2 windows servers, running server 2008. At the login screen after your press CTRL ALT DEL it used to give the format: **OurDomainName\Administrator e.g. mydomain\Administrator However now it's for some reason giving the format: **OurFullyQualifiedDomainName\Administrator e.g. mydomain.internal\Administrator Being relatively new to windows server 2008, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as to why this has suddenly changed. Many Thanks.
