I've got so much to choose from. 17" Dell Inspiron, 40" HD TV, Blu Ray Player, Macbook, iPhone 4. Gotta be the MacBook I think. It's the fact that I can carry it with me to uni and not know about it when I get there because to be honest the Dell weighs an absolute ton. Closely followed by the iPhone which would win if the home button wasn't playing up

I've seen something as simple as an improper shut down causing this. When students hold down the power button to shut the machine down you can almost guess it's going to try and recover when it boots back up. Although it does seem a little hit and miss on whether or not it does do it.

I'm in Mac at the moment so I can't be sure but isn't there an option for reconnecting a mapped drive each time a machine is started no matter whether it can be accessed or not? If so is there an argument you can add to your VB script to enable this feature on your mapped drives? Also have you moved over the client OSes as well as the DC OS?

That is our main reasoning behind not doing it yet, it would require us to change every profile and then delete the profiles from the machines so that the users could log in and then have them still work. When you have a number of machines it's not easy. Just installed a new version of the anti-virus in the last two weeks of the summer and it was horribly boring and we got little else done for 1 of the weeks, the other week was spent putting Windows 7 in a few of out Suites. I see it being a problem soon though when Teachers want to start accessing Students work

One thing M$ recommend is adding a My Documents folder inside you Home Directories and redirecting to these instead of the root directories. For example if a user has a directory of Wickedgenius It will show as My Documents So make the folders like this Wickedgenius\My Documents and then aim AD at the My Documents folder, therefore it won't change it and you can still see which is which. There may be other things to do before you try and do this though. We haven't yet implemented it because of the time it will take to move everything around but I vaguely remember something about the desktop.ini file needing removing or something like that but can't be sure what it was now. Do they tend to change these particular dlls regularly? When I tried it it was on a machine which was being used to test Windows 7 and so it wasn't like it for long, especially seeing as how the thing couldn't activate because of a messed up BIOS

Just thought it was worth noting that with a bit of trial and error you can completely remove the picture box and move things around a bit to get the login screen looking really quite nice using the resource hacker that Cue posted. After a lot of messing around I even got it looking a bit like the old XP screen
