For reference of anyone else who comes across this thread, we eventually found the problem. At our ISA server, we were remapping from HTTPS externally to HTTP internally. We found another school with an identical setup to ours, but without the remapping and OneNote files were working fine externally for them. We configured our internal sites to run dual HTTP and HTTPS and changed ISA so that external requests are passed directly through to the server as HTTPS. OneNote files now open and sync fine.

Hello, We have upgraded to SharePoint 2010 from 2007. Students have work saved in OneNote notebooks in a document library in SharePoint. Prior to the upgrade, students could open the notebooks at home without issue. Since the upgrade, the notebooks can no longer by synced. I have tried creating new notebooks, opening old ones etc. and nothing seems to work. Notebooks can be opened fine when 'inside' our network. We have ISA 2006 as our firewall. I'm open to suggestions, but what I would really like to know is, is there anyone else out there with the same setup (ISA 2006 + SharePoint 2010) that can confirm that opening a OneNote notebook in the extranet works (or could set up a test to see what results)? Hi Andy, Thanks for the info. I have read the links you posted along with many others :-) What I'm really after is someone to say, "Yes, we have the Salamander MyDocuments web part and it's working in the same scenario as yours". I've already spent the best part of 4 full days on it over 2 months and we have paid external consultants to look at it for us. Before I commit any more time I want to be certain that it is going to work and that I'm not wasting my time (an hopefully someone can give me the small nugget of information that will complete the puzzle for me :0) Cheers, Iain

We are using the Salamander MyDocuments web part with SharePoint in order to provide access to students' personal folders on a file share. The file share is on a separate server to the SharePoint Web Front End. We have configured Kerberos authentication and MyDocuments works fine internally. We use ISA 2006. Externally we can browse to the SharePoint site and turning on Kerberos Logging and using Wireshark I can see that Kerberos is being used. The MyDocuments web part however does not work externally. Presumably this is something to do with ISA and (triple?) hopping from ISA -> SharePoint Web Server -> File Share server. I am wondering if anyone else out there is using MyDocuments in this configuration and if you successfully have it working using Kerberos? [i have contacted Richard from Salamander and he has been very helpful, but, as he admits, his experience with ISA is limited. So I'm looking to find out if anyone has this working and might be able to share their experience with me].

Alfatec, Can you tell me if you are using Kerberos authentication for users via ISA? We have purchased My Documents and have it working internally via Kerberos, but from outside the ISA gateway Kerberos is not working for My Documents (Kerberos is working to accesss the Sharepoint server). If you are using Kerberos, are your network shares on a different server to Sharepoint?
