Hi, Is there any software that allows you to purchase say 5 copies of some software and have it available in a room with 30 machines but only allowing a maximum of five users to use it at one time to fulfil the legal licencing requirements? Thanks!

It's just so that we can have simple user management for our offices. They run XP Home, so when staff change we can remotely add a new local account with a corresponding network share on the server. So that when joebloggs logs in, a batch is ran that runs "net use \\staff\%username% and will then prompt the user for a password to connect to their share at login.

Anyone got an idea how I can add a local user to an xp home machine remotely? This is for a small office, we'd like to try and avoid paying for MS XP Pro licences (i'm working for a charity over the summer) Thanks!

I've got 2 hard drives of 160GB from a comp thats died, would like to put them on the network as NAS would have very low amount of users. Anyone know of any good barebones NAS kit (dont really want to use FreeNAS/old machine as its for a charity, so i think a standalone piece of kit will provide better reliablity + cost less to run than having a pc on all the time)

Depends on the funding ofcourse, but Citrix is brilliant. Provides full applications and file access as if the students were infront of a school machine. Students dont need to buy Office as they can use the schools and citrix make plugins for about every os you can think of.

Karoshi looks really good and has some interesting features like home access. The only thing is they're moving there documentation at the moment, so much is unavailable.

Strange one this..... Windows Server 2003 keeps blue screening after a short period of time. Each time with a different reason if any is given if any at all. The machine is set up correctly in terms of drivers etc. and had previously been running fine. What was really interesting was that I booted it from a BartPE disk into windows xp pro and it did the same. I originally tested the ram with windows memory diagnostic which it passed. I then tried it later.... it failed. I tested another machine which was running ok and had good ram (it passed), so I transferred that ram into the server. It then failed the diagnostic. I put the ram back in the original machine....it passed! Have changed the motherboard and power supply in the server yet still the same problem. I'm puzzled!

The main thing is being able to re-image the server from a stored image should disaster occur and the server just decide its not going to play ball. I didnt think W2k3 server could do that?

I need to set up a backup that: 1. Keeps a full drive image 2. Keeps an incremental/differential backup of general files I'm using Windows 2003 which makes it abit more difficult. A non-technical person would need to restore it (even if the OS is corrupt), so a simple procedure would be great. Backups would need to be automatically scheduled and this is for a charity I help with so costs should be minimum. Any ideas for software?

The APC Smart-UPS SC 1500VA doesnt support manglement cards We're after a low cost UPS as this is an add on. The main curriculum servers run on a Compaq very large box (does the job - havent a clue how old/model) After a new UPS for the webserver (*nix) so moodle, email etc doesnt get naffed up by a power cut (we've had 5 this holiday!!! one of which damaged the sql) and a new storage server (w2k3). Most important thing is the automatic shutting down.

We've got 1 UNIX and 2 Windows servers that we want to connect a UPS to. The UNIX runs some software that recommends APC. For the load we would require a APC Smart-UPS SC 1500VA, this has one serial out and one usb out. How does this shutdown three servers with different OS's? Has anyone used the PowerChute software?

I'm involved in a youth cafe project with some comps for internet access. Anyways, connected with Bulldog at the min who are awful (long story), so we're looking to change. Line about 2mbps would be good with no allowance, we're in the sticks so has to use BT network and not they're own exchange kit. Any ideas?

Our SMT wants us to have 3 laptop trolleys with 30 laptops on each. We run a Windows 2003 domain, whats the best way to set this up. They all have 802.11g built in. The idea of running 30 laptops on 802.11g is a bit worrying for me!

Where's the ICA-TCP connector?

When our users have disconnected from the client machine in the Management Console they are shown as 'Disconnected' and the process they were running as part of their session are still present. How can i ensure that once they've logged off/closed the ICA session everything to do with them is terminated? MetaFrame XP by the way

Basically we're cheating by installing NT and then running Citrix as its easier than configuring other thin client solutions. Just wanted something to stop them messing up the setup.

I'm after NT, anyone know of any old utilities?

We mainly run MS Office although they work suprizing well with video (citrix this is). We also enabled the web client so students can access the apps from home which is really popular.

Our machine name and citrix client names are the same, the current printer script maps by machine location, how can we get this to work in citrix?

All our rooms are set out like this and we have a script that runs for the classroom fat clients (RMG1-PC01 = G1 Printer) How can this be achieved with citrix?
