How do these perform in conjunction with wireless laptops? (Also 2.4GHz) Does it interfere in anyway? Slowness on laptops? @Sysman: where is this 'good price' from?

Think our oldest was just approaching 7 Years but its out of commission now (summer 05). Currently the oldest is 3 years but thats being decommissioned this summer where it will be 4 years old. Are those servers populated by kids or do you have a full internet connection? Would love to do that myself just to give them a pasting but a full version of Q3 sitting on network shared to multiple kids at lunch doesnt sound good

Another way, for 'room' printers, is to change the security on the printer. By adding PC_NAME$ instead of usernames, anyone logged into the specified machines can use the printer. EG Room T9 -> T9_Laser -> Properties -> Security: Domain Admins full control T9_01$ print only T9_02$ print only .. T9_30$ print only T9_TUTOR$ print only No student/pupil groups or usernames listed. Anyone typing \\PRINTSPOOL\T9_Laser from other machines (G3_07 for example) would get access denied. @indie - You can package command.com into ms word and still get a command prompt even if you disable cmd from Group Policy - I used to do this when I was at school

How about a forum/subforum dedicated to this pathetic piece of software while the pilot runs? Dont know how many of you have started on this - just going through the registration process myself (initial server install).

Prodesktop 8 SP1 here. (help about shows: Datecode 2003330, build 1061) Installed as part of the workstation image. We found it did crash pretty much every time with the built in graphics cards (intel chipset, fujitsu siemens scenic p), slight change to the mandatory profile (or reg hack on login if you like) fixed the problem. Tools->Options->Performance->_Tick_ 'Disable graphics hardware acceleration (slower)'

Just been going through a test install of MRBS on linux (debian sarge, 2.4 kernel) and im having trouble getting MRBS to recognise the windows users. Doing wbinfo -g and -u gives the users/groups of our domain (i had trouble getting it to list the correct domain - it kept listing our admin domain and wouldnt list our curriculum - but its working now - no idea why ) Anyway, when i book out a room for one period and then go back into the booking and see who is under 'Created by' its blank! I used to play RA2 LOADS a long time ago. No idea where my discs are (yes i bought it!). If I remember to dig them out ill take a butchers Spent some time making some 'money' maps to help those multi-hour lan games last! Loved making huge bases surrouned by turrets/OoL(oblisk)/sam sites/V2 rockets - kinda lost sight of 'blow your enemy up' and made it 'dig yourself in'. Edit: HAHA wrong version of C&C RA2 was telsa coils+turrets still, i built plenty of them If the internet side of things arent so good we could setup vpn and play LAN games so to speak. My real love was Quake1 CTF but it had to die at some point.

Our music room is detached from the rest of the network. Audgy cards with P4s I think. They were setup by an outside company who specialise in setting up music rooms (keyboards/headfones/software/pc setup) as a peer to peer package. Im going to have the lovely task of making them their own mini domain after xmas Its got some horrible lockdown software on each pc aswell :/ Thankfully the music teachers are interested in learning and using IT so ive had very few problems from them. eJay is currently working fine No doubt ill burn down a few villages before getting it working in the new year

We have a domain computer script for startup: if not exist c:\wallpaper md c:\wallpaper copy \\server\folder\background.bmp c:\wallpaper Then set your policy to c:\wallpaper\background.bmp This will reduce the amount of times the server is accessed for the wallpaper (only once per new pc!) Edit: I tend to use bmps for wallpaper so I can avoid turning on active desktop (its never played nicely in the past, right from the start in win9x!)

Just to add some nice to this bad ... We have: 3 sets of 16 2 sets of 15 1 set of 15 (well its only a cabinet at the moment, waiting for laptops to be ordered Work for technicians during the day? Push one cabinet out with a science technician. Only ONE card has gone missing since the first cabinet (July 2004) and two screens damaged. Keys come off regulary but have rarely been lost altogether - this is from the same set of laptops though. The more recently bought laptops have had very little problems - all staff understand they are not a replacement for ICT suite and dont try to push them to their limits. Tip if you do go ahead with this: stick to a limit of 10 laptops per access point - 3 daisy chained would probably still not max out 1x 100mbit port.

@Ric Haha @Andy I wasnt aware you could apply a user logon script to an ou with computers only? If you have multiple OUs with multiple scripts being applied at logon do they all run? only the first one? when you say hard pushed for 802.11g are you saying majority are 802.11b for terminal services?

@SYSMAN_MK Because im the technician who makes life easier @Ric_ Thats my last choice, it just gets a little messy by checking the room first - since I cant apply it to all users because of laptops (numlock on = ring technician 'help im getting funny numbers instead of letters on my laptop') I guess the only other option is the computer adm template. Does anyone know of one?

Thats already set and works for the logon screen. Unforunately numlock status is also set per user with the student mandatory profile which is set to OFF once they login. Turning it on through the profile affects the pupils using laptops which isnt what I want. I do have a 'turn num lock on/off' vbs script which is my last resort with the 'if room=x' way.

Looking to get some PDAs very soon and would like some recommendations. They(!) are looking for: Handwriting recognition with pen (I know 99.9% do this but some dont! Usual Diary/Callender/Outlook syncronisation 802.11g Wireless support (any pre-n stuff on the horizon?) Decent Warranty Support (1 Year I guess is the norm, but any with 3 Year would be good) Terminal Services support - will be looking to use sims/pars(registration) on them at a later date. Reasonably fast - dont want it slowing down when they do 2 or 3 things at once - im sure cost wont be too much of an issue. Im relatively sure most PDAs provide what is being asked but Im after personal opinions and experience of particular models.

Im trying to get numlock to be enabled every time someone logs in. In particular this is for the students (who have a mandatory profile). They use both laptops and workstations so I cant change their profile to have it enabled because it means they will have problems on laptops. A Computer ADM Template would be great as I could just apply it to the workstations but im not having much luck with google. My only alternative is to script something along the lines of 'if room=x then enable numlock' but thats just messy. Any other ideas? (OT/BUMP: cant believe nobody has any ideas for THIS problem)
