Thanks, had a look on that on my local machine, seems to prevent further access to other network machines, however, it still displays the requested server that was entered into "\\servername". Really want to stop UNC paths altogether!!! Thanks so far.. Mark

When a student enters in \\servername\ and hits enter, it immediately becomes a hyperlink. They are then able to browse the entire network for machines!!! Is their anyway of blocking UNC paths in hyperlinks from word? or windows itself? Thanks Mark

Hi there, Has anyone experienced this problem? In office 2003, students can print straight away from Excel, Access, Powerpoint etc and Adobe Reader and every application without problems... Only sometimes, can students cannot print from Word 2003, and it comes up with the message that (their are no print drivers or printers installed). However, when you close word, and reopen the document it prints fine?? I can't believe its a faulty print driver, since it works with everything else. We are also using Print Manager Plus, as a form of quota management for students printing. Thanks Mark

Neither of those, although I am glad you mentioned the integrated projector and speaker system (600i, and the latter). It is basically an LCD Screen/TV Large (42" Plus), which then houses a SMART Board panel in front of it. Domino has provided a link to what I mean. Can you explain why they need aligning still though? Kind regards Mark

I wasnt sure where to put this thread, but since we use it on Windows Machines.... 8) We currently have a large amount of Front Projection SMART boards in school, but are having a new science block built, so are looking at some alternatives to projectors. I have seen these SMART Board for LCD Displays, but wondered if anybody had used them in anger, and set them up and supported them from a TECHIE point of view?? Any ideas on cost and supported LCD Displays would be good. I think they would alleviate the alignment problems we have with front projection boards when the projector moves slightly and falls out of alignment, causing problems for staff when drawing on the board. We run a Windows Network, and I am having problems printing with some HP 4250 mono printers. It basically shrinks the document to about a 1/16th of the normal size to the top left hand corner of the paper once it has printed. If you restart Word, it seems fine. We have mandatory roaming profiles for students and staff. Any ideas? Mark

XP should run without problems on half a gig. The main reason for slow down is hard disk performance. We found with better drives (faster with bigger buffer) made more difference. Mark

Tried all those switches, after a bit of searching, I managed to track down the manual on google. However it had a load of switches which did anything but what I wanted to do. Have managed to create an MSI in the end using Snapshot in Installshield Repackager Thanks all, Mark

Switches won't work, an error message comes up saying refer to the network administrator manual, which I do not have a copy of... nor can I retrieve from the manufacturers website... Mark

Not sure if I can pass switches to it...how would I find this out...never done manual setups from exe's before. It is an exe by the way.. M.

Hey all, I am struggling to create a package for Mathtype 5, which is a program our maths department use. It uses a rather old setup installer, and does not use any form of msi file or anything. Has anyone else used this program and managed to create an MSI for it? I want to deploy it to numerous clients using a GPO. Thanks Mark

You know what... Thats a good idea!!!!

We have had some rather shoddy projector screens, which have not lasted long. The end casing which holds the spring release and roller, has broken completely off, which has rendered the screen useless. The other annoying thing is the fixing is rather lightweight, and again uses the end casing to hook over a screw holding the screen in place on the wall. The pull mechanism to pull the screen down and release it is also not very easy to use. The blind then rolls up very sharply, hitting the main central casing, causing it to jump off the screws fixing it to the wall!!!! One of the end casings then drops down from reasonable height onto the floor, causing it to break the entire screen. Why projector screens cannot be designed like window blinds, with a beaded string, I don't know!!! Has anybody got hold of a screen that lasts?!!! Mark

Yes that is correct, a previous recordset has already been created, the results of which I would like to filter out again, using a further recordset.

I eventually got this working for users home directories and USB Drives. I had to use Fooby's method, which I had to adapt, because a srp does not understand a drive letter mapped to a network share. I had to resort to %HOMESHARE% which blocks all executables in all sub directories in that root drive. you can use drive letters for USB pen drives, because it is a physical drive. This along with USBDLM deployed and with startup script, worked a treat. Thanks, Mark

fooby Does this mean that you can use the pen drive in a normal way, to transfer work (word docs etc etc) and copy to and from the Pen Drive? Ta Mark

I still want to allow USB drives, but to block EXE files on them!! Not block them completely!!!!! I don't think anyone actually understands what I am on about so far!! Mark
