Is there a way to use a SRP to block the macro editor in Visual studio 2005? We have blocked reg keys being run from student areas, but one student has been running reg keys from the shell command within the macro editor in vs2005. Cheers Mark

You will need to update the security for .net packages on "Local Intranet" to Full I think. There should be a little .net framework wizards tool in administrative tools in control panel. It creates an MSI of the updated option, which you can then deploy using group policy. Give me a PM if you want some help Mark

What exactly is the problem? I upgraded from version 9.5 i think, which I rolled out using an MSI. Version 10 MSI removed the flash95.ocx from C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed, when I did an upgrade using the Flash 10 MSI using group policy. The new flash10a.ocx was included in the Macromed directory, but didn't register properly. I then wrote a little script that detected if Flash10a.ocx was present, and used regsvr32 to silently register the 10a.ocx file. This then meant that flash in IE worked a treat, which it didn't previously. Regards Mark

Yeah, I know that I need to copy all the folders and files from the temp directory, but there aren't any others besides a single msi file, and mst file, and some log file (all of which I copied out to another directory??) Never had a problem before today (currently on 6u7), just on this version (6u11). Cheers Mark

Having trouble trying to do an administrative install at the moment... Got the offline installer, ran it, found the MSI in temp dir... Now keep getting the error saying the Data1.cab file is missing (which it is). Anyone got a work ed of this which I can steal (or the setup.exe which I can have anyway?) Cheers Mark

Sounds like some sort of config file needs to be setup for office 2003 on the client machines....to look at a global contact list. Will ask a colleague of mine, as he is the exchange/outlook expert! Will report back later Mark.

PrintManager plus used to give us loads of random problems... now on paper cut, and all the problems seem to disappear... Go for it if you can! Our head couldn't believe the amount of paper the school as consuming, and has now ORDERED that we put in exchange LOL! Sometimes when you do things the school benefits LOL. Mark

We have 2 from SecureIT, which are okay, very sturdy, but heavy!! We don't use the charging facility on them though... Expensive, but well made. Mark

Hi, We are using a bolt on to SIMS.Net called TEAM to deal with Attendance, Reports and Progress checks. We are currently in the middle of a massive progress checks cycle, and have had to deal with the fun of P.E. groups/rotations. The classes in SIMS.net are setup on the timetable as mixed gender groups (quite why I don't know) and this then means we have to sort out PE especially for attendance, but that is working okay. The biggest headaches come with Progress checks since the classes don't match up with the teachers since the students get put in different groups. This is especially true when they come to rotatations since the kids all move around to different teachers and groups again...(groan). At the moment, it appears that the school is pandering to the needs of the P.E. department in terms of classes, and this then gives so many headaches it is unreal! How do other schools deal with PE groups in SIMS.net for easy reporting? Cheers Mark

Thanks for all the help chaps.. We eventually came to a solution, using a registry hack, (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run...) and adding an entry to a local bat file which we copy across the network at machine startup. This reg hack also helps clean out the intel tray icon, and any other sh1t you don't need! The batch file contains a simple check for a file existing on a mapped network drive at logon, (which if they pull the plug) doesnt get mapped, so the batch file calls logoff... Can't wait for this to pan out! Mark

We use mandatory profiles, (which load quickly) and seem to be loading okay. Its more the permissions and gp settings and logon scripts for the users which don't work correctly (including our redirected desktop/startmenu). I have the logoff if no profile present working okay, but the gits are waiting till the profile has just about loaded. Will look into the logoff if no network present gp, but I am not sure it will apply properly. Mark

Hi.. The little have worked out how to hack logging onto our machines. They start logging on, then pull the network lead out during 'applying computer settings'. They then get full local admin permissions on the machine, and somehow get pointed to the unfiltered proxy address we use. We are trying to setup some sort of scheduled task to point to a local batch file on each machine that just logs the user off, if say a mapped drive is not found... Has anyone else got this or found away to stop the little , as the profile loads okay, so the logon continues. Mark

Yeah good customer service... I signed up and had the netgear router posted to me within 2 days LOL... Never had a problem with speed, but don't really download lots of stuff anyway, just stick to forums me. Worth it for the all-in-one package methinks. Mark

We had a flyer for this through the post. Gave it a trial on Friday afternoon in our main computer suite. Very powerful and easy to setup. Can block screens, and internet use at the click of a button. Software creates MSI for clients automatically and can be easily deployed. Excellent! Just got to stump up the cash for the software now! Mark

Depends on what you mean by "CAD", this could be paint (a design program used on a computer - computer aided design! LOL). However, we use PD8 at our place, and had the problem of extruding when deploying the MSI, so included it as a manual install on workstations, with the extrusion trick completed. We also have Techsoft 2D Design V2 which is excellent and comes with its own MSI and excellent deploy instructions. I think i just used a startup script for the license file. The only issue with it was that I had to install certain drivers for printers cutters and engravers seperately (but the older version natively supported them). Mark

Thanks for posting back... The problem had all the symptoms of a loop in our topology, but also disappeared of its own right a little while after... Strangely, it ony affected our curriculum machines, so we had a look at our domain controller for our curriculum domain, and it was full of warnings in event viewer in system category. Once rebooted, we havent had a problem all afternoon, but will find out tommorow what happens. The error hasnt occured either in the eventviewer, so I am unsure as to what the problem is.. You need to add a new Group Policy Object through Active Directory. I would put it on the domain root (i.e. domain.local). I have called mine FIX SOPHOS! You then need to edit the GPO with the following settings: Computer Config...Admin Templates...Windows Components...Internet Explorer...Security Features...Add On Management...Add On List Click Enabled Button...Then Show Button below. You then need to follow Sophos instructions to add the new "add-on" and disable it. HTH Mark

I would recommend the 2600 series for your edge switches, while we have 3400 and 5300 chassis series for our medium and core switches. Hope this helps. Mark

I have had this as well...It caused my network to crawl as well, and YES we do run Sophos. I have gone off Sophos of late, and we also run XP SP2 and 3 clients. Not sure what version we are on Sophos at the moment, (since we have been so busy doing other things) but will check on Monday.
