    BSF ICT not going well

It looks like Blackburn is having a similar experience to Leicester.
  3. Just another set of lovies slapping each other on the back and telling each other what a great job they are doing.
  4. Authenticate the devices (netbooks) not the users .....
  5. How about a Draytek Vigor 2820Vn? You can have 4 SSIDs with differing levels of encryption and each wireless network can be throttled up and downstream. It's a bit pricey but will do the job well and you can lots more with it if you want to.
  6. Yes, there is a chance. However from my experience it hasn't worked out that way for the techies I know that were transitioned to the ICT provider. They have very little rights on the systems now and the only training they have had is on the help desk system that is used.
  7. Do yourself a favour and look for employment elsewhere or at least TUPE over to them and go all to find another role elsewhere. You will be between the school and Head Office being kicked severely by both parties. You will not be one of the trusted and have very little rights to perform the role you used to do and will be left fixing desktops and laptops whilst waiting for the next exciting call to change the printer toner.
  8. A poorly designed and implemented network will always be that regardless of what the brand is. Leicester BSF has wireless problems. The one thing in common between these schools and the one in Bristol is Northgate. There are many other Cisco wireless networks around that don't have problems. Draw your own conclusions .....
  9. He is sooooo right! Look at the performance of Northgate in Leicester - the BSF Grand Prix award winning school was effectively crippled for a week because they couldn't recover from the last backup after a disk failure! Compound this with chronic performance issues with the wireless network and the operating system that Microsoft would rather forget about on all desktops and laptops.
  10. Meru - Overinflated installation prices and a closed loop partner channel. Keep sweet-talking Boys from Belfast ........
  11. The BSF schools in Leicester City all have Cisco managed wired and wireless networks implemented by Northgate. These networks are a joke - they can't cope with 6 laptops logging on at the same time. Is Cisco the problem? No, it's Northgate. - Poor design, poor implementation, poor performance. Some of the access points aren't even plugged in to the network. Long live Leicester BSF

BSF - The results are in

It could be a whole lot worse - it could be Northgate instead of RM. In Leicester one school was down for a week because a server broke and it took 4 days for them to restore the data.

Come on chaps - let's try kicking this one off again ........ How is the service provided by Northgate? What is the system availability and reliability? How is the remote support from Belfast working out for you?
