Any ideas people? I have in the past just removed acces to libraries via reg key from on here. But as far as seeing in collapsed, not a clue?!!

Hey All, Need some help with Windows Libraries and Favorites. I have taken on a new site that have current GPO's in place etc. Also use Quest for provisioning. I am having an issue with Favorites and Libraries in explorer sidebar being minimized / not showing. On previous networks i have setup i just use a reg key to nuke the libraries and be done with it. Only this case they want to use them!!! More specifically the favorites. I have added an entry for the favorites which shows up under favorites on my start menu. But its minimized in explorer. I have looked through GPMC and cannot find anything applied relating to the libraries and favorites. When logging in as me they are there and working. Any help would be great guys. Note - Its a 2k8r2 managed desktop environment. Cheers Buddy.

We are just going through this process. So far we have come to the stage where we have both images captured, OSX and W8. Have a workflow to deploy both successfully. However we are having BOOTMGR issues. To capture the windows image, boot into DS. Select the workflow Create a Master volume. Make sure the only tick box selected in try to shrink ntfs volumes size. (in DS Admin on your server). And then once captured create a workflow that partitions the drive, deploy the OSX and Image and then deploy then Windows one. Thats as far as we have gotten, plus we have REfit installed to make it easier for users. However this is where we are stuck. We have to repair windows with a CD in order for it to complete OOBE and get to the login screen. We even repaired it, recaptured it and still no luck. I hope this helps. Its pretty rewarding when you get there.

There is the option in Pm for a global HTTP Proxy which works on both Ethernet and wifi.

You can configure the proxy settings via a configuration profile under the profile manager role on the OSX Server. Easy peasy too.

Hi All, Wondering if someone has come across this before or been asked by their school. One of the schools i look after want to be able to give students individual passwords and have them recorded in a spreadsheet or similar. Are there any software applications or scripts that can apply passwords from a spreadsheet to users in AD? Or will generate random passwords in english and apply to the users. EG 'whale12' I know it cannot be done with CSVDE and i already have a VBS to bulk change users passwords, but applies the same one for every user. Can anyone help?? Buddy

The reason the server name is relevant is say a piece of software is packaged at school A. And that software has a central save location on the server, this would get set either during the MSI capturing process or in a system info file which is telling the application where to look for its centrally located saves date. Some software (older stuff in particular) doesnt come with an MSi hence the reason im packaging. Im not relating to flash or anything with a current MSI. Yeah, that is what im trying to avoid but i think i may just have to carry on with it. In an ideal world i would like the packaged software to know (if its even needed) where the look back. The only part of a UNC that differs is the server name, the rest of the UNC is generic as the software comes from a library of ours. E.G \\schoolA\Apps\Sherston Magic Grandad\Saves \\schoolB\Apps\Sherston Magic Grandad\Saves Which is why im thinking the only way to to get round this is to make server names across all schools the same.

I have a policy i can zip up for you along with a few reg keys to remove libraries etc.

Ok, Im not too sure if this is the correct area to have this thread so if there are MODS here, please move accordingly. Onto my question. I look after around 40 Infant, Junior and Primary schools in the local area, the systems that i have been putting in place has been made generic across all site which is good and allows for consistancy when other techs cover my schools at work. However one thing i havent really had time to sit down and trial is making packaged software generic. Currently im using packaged MSi's from say SchoolA but when i go to SchoolB who's server is named according to the school i have to either edit the packages where needed which TBH is only a small pain, or repackage the software. All software on my servers reside in the following path: \\servername\Apps\Software Title Is there a way when packaging that i can build a library of software where the server name isnt relevant and get away without having to edit them due to server names being different. For the majority of software its ok but when i comes to packages with central data paths (sherston) its inconvenient and time consuming. Ive been using WinInstall LE and have had a quick go on WISE which i think i will move over too eventually. All comments welcome guys. Cheers Buddy.

you shouldnt need to enter the routes into the switch no, not if they are all under the same top subnet. Also - Just read your map. I would plumb them back to the core. If say your, Cisco Catalyst 3560 goes down or link to the core fails. . Cisco SLM2048 and Netgear GS724TP will both lose on on connectivity. See where im coming from.

I spent about two weeks working out my sysprep and unattend xml files. Just so were on the same page. When you are deploying W7 you are using an unattend xml yes (sysprep.inf is for XP deployment)? If you like, i can post up an example for you to see. 'Il highlight the changes to be made for you'. Its a very basic xml but lets me select the image i want and walk away. Come back 25 minutes later its sat at the logon screen. I use an ext HDD and CD ghostboot to capture my master image before sysprepping! (Just my 2p) Let me know if you want it and il post up. Dont give up on, when its working its great!

Its all good i done it. i copied the i386 folder into my sysprep folder on local C: of the image and now its worked.

Now that i have WDS 2008 and W7 working with some help from you all. My next obstacle was to get WDS 2008 and XP SP3 working. I found this pretty simple and got it down quite well. The one issue i have is this.... I capture an image ( the images are hardware specific), deploy it to machines. WDSunattend.xml works fine. Understood about the language bit causing issues etc. My sysprep.inf works fine ( made the folder structure needed under RemInst\Images. However, when the build starts to read the sysprep.inf before it reads, it is asking for file from the i386 folder. So i place an XP disc in and walaa finishes its build and works a treat. How can i get this to not ask for the files.? Thank you all in advance.

cool well im in the middle of building machines. had a few driver issues. For some reason when i was installing machine yesterday while the unattend wasnt working it installed all drivers. now it doesnt! So ive added the drivers to the console. I done it by adding them from a folder under 'Drivers then assigned them to a group. Is that correct? we shall see i guess. it seemed when i booted in safe mode i couldnt ping or ipconfig... Also does anyone have a line i can place into the xml file to enable the local administrator account. assuming it is already present. Thank you Teejay and everyone for your help! youve been great.

machine is built and logged on. was a driver issue thank teejay. Im on my way to work now. I have done a slmgr -ipk on the server. and then run the slmgr - ato... but it was with the server key. when i done it with a windows 7 on the 08R2 server is threw its dummy saying it wasnt genuine. is that the correct key to use? i have a W7 KMS key 08R2 kms key and office 2010 KMS key. Also if the kms is working will i see the machine count increase as requests are sent?

Right i have got it to rename and join. works great thanks teejay. the only problem i got is i cannot log in with any accounts???? have placed a administrator reset in the imageunattend. but is saying the account is disabled. also cannot login with 'development\administrator' doesnt seem to take password?? any ideas. attached is my imageunattend ImageUnattend.zip

also guys what is the script with product keys? can they go into the imageunattend.xml? or will i need to run a KMS server?

The below part of the xml file. is there a reason the accounts are needed. Do they relate to the domain join. Or does it create accounts?
