Just also noticed that if i ping using the computer name, it returns this: pinging computer1.server.local [*.*.*.99] but when i do ipconfig on the local machine, its ip address is actually *.*.*.40

Hi guys Bit of a problem this morning... Came to install kaspersky on one of our admin machines which has vista business sp2 installed with all updates! The problem i am having is that i can't ping the machine from the server using its name but i can actually ping it using its ip address! Everytime i try to install the antivirus from the server, its failing and i can only put this down to the fact that there is a conflict between the server and the machine! Has anyone come accross this problem before? I have tried the ip/release and ip/renew but it keeps taking the old ip from dhcp again!

Did forget to mention.... There is a USB cable plugged in to the server!

Its a smart UPS 1500. The UPS is plugged in to the mains and the only powered from the UPS is the server, there are 2 power cables going into the server! Had a look at the back of the UPS and there are 8 outputs and 2 of them are used to power the server, thats all! The only thing i can find on the server is the powerchute web interface and obviously i cant get to this as it needs a ussername and password that i dont have"!

Only changed the battery 5weeks ago, don't understand what could be causing this!

It's using the same plugs as the ones that are used in the ICT Suite! I have asked for a different mains plug to be installed totally on a different line as there is quite a lot of load on that circuit! Would it be anything to do with the fact that it isnt getting enough power?

Hi guys One of the schools i work at is having an issue! Basically everytime there is a powercut, the server cuts off staright away without the UPS actually kicking in! The battery is showing as fully charge and i am wondering the reason as to why this could be happening? I can't get to the UPS console as it has a password and no one has a log of this!

So i installed kaspersky admin kit on the server and then deployed kaspersky server protection to the server and all installed fine. I even managed to installed kaspersky workstation on one of the pc and all was fine. But then the following day i get a call from the admin team saying they cant log on to sims! I can log on to SIMS fine on the server but for some reason something was blocking the user logon to our sims server. The admin station was never touched and i never even got around installing kaspersky on it so it must be something on the server that was blocking it! Any ideas guys? Have you come across teh same problem? Thanks

Hi We just bought Kaspersky and i was about to install Kaspersky Administration Kit on the server. Now at the moment we have Symantec installed on the server and all stations are managed through the server. Now i have been told that i need to uninstall Symantec of the server manually and then go round and uninstall all symantec products on stations just to make sure everything is removed! Is kaspersky quite easy to install on the server?

Alright the switches are HP Procurve 1810G-24 web managed Gbit switches , just checked the quote i had.

I'll check if i have a serial cable tomorrow and the exact type of switch it is! We had it setup as it has dual link between some switches so i wouldnt risk a reset.

Would i not lose all it settings by reseting the switches?

A restart of those switches didnt do the trick!

Now few things kicks in when you say powercut! Last week we had we had to switch the server off due to the some emergency electrical work going on in the building. By the time the power was back, the switches were back on before the server but i dint notice any of this as the network was running fine. But if i remember right, when i restarted teh server, i switched off 2 of the switches and turned them back on as the server was coming back up! And these are the switches that are actually showing up as active on DHCP and i can get to the login console via ip address. Now if i am correct, if i restart the other 3 switches after school today, i should be able to see them under DHCP as active?

These were setup by a firm so not sure but under DHCP i have Under Scope ---->Reservations the switches are on there with their IP addresses but whenever i try to access them via IE, only 2 of them responds and these are listed under DHCP as active and the others are listed under DHCP as inactive! Its almost as if they lost the original IP address and picked up some random ones but they are not listed under DHCP. Hope this makes sense

Hi Just wondering if anyone can help on this or encountered a similar issue before? We had our network switches replaced last summer and everything has been running fine. The only problem i am having now is that i cannot find the ip addresses of the HP Procurve swicthes on DHCP. I have also tried scanning ip addresses on the network and i can find 2 of them which are listed on dhcp but the other 3 dont show up at all! The network is running fine, just that i can not get to these switches at all. Can anyone help on this? These are HP Procurve switches and we have a windows 2003 server! Thanks

Just done some calculations, last month the whole school (Medium size school - 380 pupils + 60 staff) managed to print 10133 copies of paper between all of us. That is 9 printers, 13 classes. Do you think this is reasonable? Or do i need to mention this just to make everyone aware of the cost?

According to the user, the laptop was started one day and it was just on a dark screen, you could see windows loading but very faded in the background! Laptop didn't look like as if it had been dropped but you never know!

Hi I have just changed the screen and backlight on one of our fujitsu siemens laptop and for some reason the start is very slow and shutdown is almost taking up to 5 to 6 mins! COuld this be a hardware or software issue? Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi I am having an issue with a vista business machine in school. Basically we have activated active desktop via GPO and everything is fine on all xp curriculum and admin machines apart from this vista machine. It displays a black backgound when user logs on, presumably something to do with the vista settings as we are using 2003 server? Any suggestions?
