Good afternoon fellow IT Pro's! Have been playing around with SCCM for a few weeks now and have got to a stage where I want to install ActivInspire in the Task Sequence/Software Centre for staff laptops. However, the posts I have found online and the documentation from Promethean isn't really clear cut, it just doesn't seem to quiet install at all. Have extracted the MSI's from the main installer and have managed to get the drivers to install perfectly fine via the task sequence. Is there a sequence to follow to install the 4 MSI's via the task sequence or through Software Centre? Surprised I have any hair left!

Ive managed to hide the hard drive with the link you posted I used the command: sudo chflags hidden /Nameofthedrive. Regarding the network icon, i've left it as it is, but I have changed all the permissions on all the shares, so they can only see what they are ment to. This will be fine for me Thank you all again for the help, is much appreciated! Have a lovely christmas!

I have this already set and this only removes the items from the side bar or the desktop

Also would be nice to remove the hard drive icon from here too to prevent the students messing around

This is running leopard. I'm trying to convince the music department to upgrade to lion, but so far have been unsuccessful lol. Okay thanks I will drop him a line

No i haven't got anywhere with this unfortunetly. I'm back on this now as im setting up a clean mac for imaging. Have you found anything more to this, or has anyone else managed to do this?

Hello there, I am close to rolling out my configured mac client across to the music mac suite we have here, but I have one thing I dont want the kids to see. The 'Network' icon under 'Computer'. I have removed it from the sidebar so thats not an issue, just would like this one to disappear so stop them from playing around on the system. I have tried hiding it using the following code: sudo setfile -a V /Network But this does nothing on this case. Has anyone got any ideas? I will still be looking around on the internet, but so far ive found nothing regarding this one

Im not too sure if you can or how to run the script without a mac server. We have one here and it works a treat. How many mac's do you have at your location? It could be a good idea if you are managing 15+ mac's to put a server in place as then you can manage permissions etc. Someone here may know the answer without the use of a server though.

I have come across a few posts online saying that the macs have problems with talking to xxx.local domains but I cant remember what the answer is to it. Have a look on google with something along the lines of 'mac AD .local problems'. Here is a link for you to start off with though - Clicky

I have done a work around on this issue. I have hidden the User folder from the hard drive, only way to access it is by Go to folder or by terminal. Im locking the system down for students, and to staff to a certain extent. Ive kept the force home directory, but made a script to mount the students/staff home drive onto the desktop which is on another post on this forum. So far its working nicely. Do you have a Mac Server in place or is it just AD? And does your domain end in .local at all?

I have setup our macs the same way (Replace the local home folder with the network home folder) and im having the issue with the mac clients failing to login again with a different user for 15-20 mins or until i restart the mac. I was looking at putting a LogoffHook script in place to make the mac restart everytime the student logs off, but there was a problem which if you selected shutdown it will still restart. Dont you just love trying to get a mac to act like a PC
