Indeed, I'm not 100% sure why it hasn't taken off yet though... probably due to the DCSF changing their mind about various issues every 3-6 months and that most regular users seem to be afraid of open source.

I've always found that it's a bit of a mixed bag really, it depends entirely on who you get dealing with your issue. For example, I logged two Census cases recently... the first one was query in regard to the Summer census which was pretty much a yes or no answer to which I received a completely irrelevant solution in regard to the Spring census, however, upon logging the case again someone else picked it up and simply told me "yes, that's how it works" (which is what I thought, just needed to confirm the functionality).

Ensure you kick them off by disabling all of the remote connections from the Server, don't just take their word for it!

I really do wonder why people bother using laptops for gaming, they're generally just not that good or comfortable to use for any length of time... especially if you're playing WoW. My laptop is about 2yrs old, it's a Dell Vostro T(I forget the number but it's a 2.2ghz dual core), 2GB Ram and a dedicaded 256mb Nvidia graphics card runs WoW without any issues at all (or it did about 9 months ago when I actually used to play... got to lvl 80 and decided I couldn't be arsed anymore).

I've still got a few of these floating round which I use for older programs that I've lost the original key for, still have the legit installation disc... just that the case/manuals which went with them containing the keys are long gone. Red Alert 1/2... aaah, those were the days

The whole system just really needs a complete overhaul. We all should be taught based on ability, that way classes can be specifically geared to teaching at the right level, this will not only help out those who have difficulty learning but also those who learn quite quickly and want to delve deep into a subject. There also need to be more relevant subjects taught in schools, at the moment virtually everyone at 16 enters the world not having a clue how to manage finances, not knowing anything about politics or how to generally manage themselves. There should be a general basic life skills class which includes all of this. I could be here all day writing about this to be honest, maybe I should write one of those manifestos too!

11k for the average wedding... *falls over and dies at the cost* I doubt many couples will actually get it though, I dont think I know any married couples where only one of them works... even the ones who have kids, they both work.

I use loads of different ones, it depends on the school which I'm at but the most popular is probably Firefox.

In high school (where I never did any homework) I ended up with C's in absolutely everything, even French and I'm sure I bunked off most of those lessons. In College (I did some homework - but only if it was coursework) I ended up with a C in all of my A levels At University (I did tons of coursework in my room as there were virtually no lectures or lessons.... 5-10hrs of those a week) and once again ended up with the equivalent of a C. So nothing outstanding but nothing epic-fail worthy either. To be honest though, looking back on everything now, I probably wouldn't have done anything different. I was doing perfectly fine and had really good grades up until I got into high school and the whole school virtually decided that I was their enemy and that they were going to try and punch my lights out at every possible opportunity. I really didn't go to a good school and I feel that myself and everyone else with half a brain were let down by the whole system there, only 20% of the Year 11 I was in got 5 A-C grades and most of them aren't doing anything with their lives now. Yeah, I probably could've got better results but when the school enters everyone into the foundation paper where the highest possible grade was a C... it's not going to happen. College went a bit better although I only really attended because a) there aren't many decent jobs available to you when you're 16 and only have GCSE's and b) EMA University... well, I really did pick the wrong course there but it was very difficult picking a course when you've got the same grade in virtually everything... how do you choose? Especially if, like me, you're happy doing anything as long as you've got something to do (sitting around twiddling my thumbs does my head in, I have to be doing something at virtually all moments of the day). I ended up loathing most of the students on my course because they all seemed like snobby little unwashed wastes of space - they kept dropping out of one course one year and then onto the next. I had to get a part time job whilst I was there and I just about managed to scrape by, I bought my own car... yes, I owned it and it was mine, it was a heap (so old it had manual choke) and people used to walk by laughing at me trying to start the car in the Uni car park... but when their electronics or something went wrong on their modern car... which heap did they want a lift in? I finished the course and then got a job, first one which was offered to me - I've never had any problems doing the work, speaking to colleagues or socialising with them and it's so much better actually earning money, I hoped I'd said good riddance to Education once I'd finished mine but then I ended up working in it... lol.

It might be worth trying to reset the Sysman password to password by running exec sims.db_p_reset_sysman_password in SQL Server Management Studio. I'd also give exec sims.db_p_install and exec sims.db_p_grant a go as well as those procedures happen every time you re-attach the database and they help to refresh/restore the logins. I wouldn't be too hopeful though, once it's lost them, it's usually a complete PITA to get them back. I have a vague recollection of a rather complex way to do this in SQL Management Studio... recover logins through there but it took quite a long time to do and figure out, I can't quite remember I'm afraid.

I've had a look in my calendar and I'll be transferring the database across on June 1st, hopefully I'll have enough time to take ample screenshots and make notes. Then I'll write a step by step document which hopefully will include everything. (I do like writing documents... don't ask me why! I just do).

Is SubInAcl.exe and the signature file which goes with it subinacl.exe.signature present in your Setups folder? I had that error a while ago and found that niether of those files were present so simsperm.bat wouldn't run.

Fairly amusing although I generally have to agree with it. I never did any homework when I was in school and I was given lots of detentions (which I never turned up to) for it. Most of the tasks were a pointless load of drivel which had no relevance to anything taught in the lessons. I also never told my parents about any homework I had been given. To be honest though, I didn't like school, my time was much better spent playing my Playstation/Reading Books/Drawing than sitting in a lesson full of disruptive morons whose only purpose in life seemed to be to chuck books across the class at one another. Had it have been a better school and relevant homework handed out occasionally... I might have done it. One of my siblings though, never learnt to not tell my parents that they'd not been given any homework, I used to sit in my room and hear my dad yell at the top of his lungs at them, every time they got something wrong, failed to do a sum correctly, the house shook with all of the shouting. It put a strain on my mum as she didn't like to hear the shouting either and if she said anything about it then it was *congratulations, a full blown argument between both parents ensues*.

I'll be doing this at the end of this month in a few weeks so I might take some screenshots and write an actual instruction booklet on how to do it (as it's not something many of us do often so a nice instruction booklet would be handy I think). Before you attempt the transfer, make sure that you have ample backups of the SIMS and FMS databases and the DOCSTORAGE folder. Here is a quick guide: On the old server: Detatch SIMS/FMS databases using DBattach, stop the SQL Service (services.msc), copy the relevant MDF/LDF's from the DATA directory where SQL is installed. Copy the DOCSTORAGE folder too. On the new server: Copy the detatched MDF/LDF's across as well as the Setups folder (from the old server / Capita FTP site) or install from a CD. Dont forget about copying the DOCSTORAGE folder across too. Install full SQL if the school has a license. Run SIMSinst.exe and select all of the options for the Server (used as a server, setup as the document management server as well), this should then install all of the components which you need to run SIMS.net (if I remember correctly, it also installs SQL Express). Just make a note of the instance name and the SA password when you're prompted to enter one during the installation. Run DBattach, select the SIMS/FMS MDF/LDF files which were detached from the old server and attach them to your new SQL instance. Amend the connect.ini so that it reflects your new servername, instance name and database name. When SIMS.net runs, it will ask you to show it where your connect.ini resides so you'll need to think about how you're going to set this up. I usually put the connect.ini on a mapped network drive, usually S:\SIMS or S:\MIS and then have all of the connect.ini's on the workstations redirect to them. I also wouldn't reformat/dismantle/do anything to the old server until I'd got everything working correctly on the new one, SIMS or otherwise.

What exactly is the error message that you are receiving? I've not heard of anything like this before but I am wondering if any students have been withdrawn from this exam but have not had their seats cancelled?

Politics is one of those things that we should all be taught a bit about in school but generally aren't. Not knowing how to vote is a bit like not knowing how to fill out a cheque, when I left school I'd no clue how to do either of these things despite the fact that they are both quite easy and as adults they are things that we will encounter and might have to do. I've always taken the theory of: If I don't know something, I'll ask someone who does or if nobody is around then I'll ask google/wikipedia/loads of other websites. A lot of people just don't seem to have that drive though, they sit saying something along the lines of "meh" and just exist. It's the same with finances and money management, nobody was ever taught anything about it in school, parents often don't have a clue about it and we wonder why people end up squandering money and then end up in loads of debt!

I'm not going to any festivals this year, the cost of tickets has really killed it for me. It's not exactly a festival but I'll be going to Amecon - the biggest Anime convention of the summer, plenty of music, drinking, partying and you can wear whatever you like I'll be going as Fang from FFXIII, the making of the staff is proving to be challenging - I spent a good hour in the plumbing section at B&Q contemplating various bits of pipe and foam for it the other day. Even better is that it's taking place in the Midlands at Keele University - means I can visit Stafford and prod everyone who I know there as well.

I've always wanted to give this a go, chances are I'd completely deviate from the recipies and chuck lots of random ingredients in there.... mmm, lime juice. I'll have to gather up some ingredients and try it out

I'm there! So was I, I did have some help with that one though, my brother and one of his friends helped me out with that and even still, it took us a while to get it lined up/slotted in correctly.
