  1. Haha, I just found these two in the notes section on my phone.... Situation #1 is when instructing a customer through a remote support session.. Me: "Ok, type in this address and then click on the pop up" Customer: "Ok, I've done that and it's installing" Me: "Ok, when the next box pops up, please type in your name so that I can identify you" Customer: "Whats my name?" Me: "Umm..." Customer: "........" Situation #2 is when I'm trying to guide a customer over the phone in real time to our office using google maps. Me: "Ok, so you're on Station road?" Customer: "Yes, I'm just coming up to the end of it" Me: "Ok... *hears car turning* ...which way did you just turn?" Customer: "I can't remember" Me: "Umm..." Customer: "........" Two epic memory fails on both!
  2. Lol, nice one. I'll sign up later after I'm done disguising my photo!
  3. I'm with Sivadam on this one as my first thought was "hmm, I wonder if you could create a new ledger code for this?". Although I'm not really that great with FMS either.
  4. Freedom of speech is all well and good but you've got to keep it within reason. For example, I'm not going to talk about topics such as religion, politics, sex or wages whilst I'm at work as I might a) get my butt kicked for doing so and b) inadvertantly start an argument by offending someone. These are all valid topics and can be discussed elsewhere though but at work, I'd generally say they were a no no. One of my colleagues who is heavily into religion is always opening her mouth and spouting views which could offend people. The best one so far has been the "tattoo's are the mark of the devil" comment which was made to me directly. I don't personally have any tattoo's but I was rather shocked by that view and that someone would say that at work as it really could offend some people. It's those kinds of comments which should be kept away from certain environments.
  5. Sounds good, I'll have to pick some up at some point (although according to google, only ASDA sell them). I was tempted to buy the Kopparberg ones with Strawberry and Lime when I was at Tescos yestereday but I ended up buying one of these - Summer berry sourz instead.
  6. What's the two bottles of seemingly strawberry and lime cider on the left? It looks good..
  7. Don't worry about it, virtually all employers will ask this (probably as they have to). As long as you're generally in good health then it should be fine
  8. Being pretty much a permanent singleton with little family I can understand the general "oh crap, what will I do!?" feeling when it comes to thinking about going on holiday alone. Last year, I decided against a holiday for that very reason but I found myself just sitting in my room doing bugger all for an entire week. Whilst it felt good that I was still getting paid, I didn't actually do anything at all other than play my PS3/go to the gym which is what I generally do in the evenings anyway. This year I decided "bugger that, I'm going to do something at least" so I'll be going to a 3 day convention up north which will have plenty of events (and alcohol) to keep my mind off the fact that I'm on my own and I know no-one. The main thing which I've found is to try and keep busy, you don't necessarily have to interact with others if you don't want to, it's just that you need to keep busy so pick a holiday that ensures you'll be doing something on each day and you'll be fine Where can I sign up for this? lol
  9. Have a good one Relax with a cup of something nice and some chocolate.
  10. Here here! I do have to agree that it is pretty dire and I just get an unknown error half the time when I attempt to log a case through it.
  11. I saw it at the cinema the other weekend (certainly a rarity for me as I normally object to the £8 'almost the price of a dvd' fee) and yeah, it's not bad at all, I'd give it 4 stars personally (great film but zero filth) and as simcfc73 has already said refrain from the drinks as you will have a numb bum by the time it finishes. It is quite clever and definitely does make you think a lot, I particularly liked the bits where they messed with the physics of the dreamworld. Definitely a contemplation for buying when it's out on Blu-ray.
  12. I have wondered that but the answer is obviously no as Capita/SIMS are extreme stingebags.
  13. Indeed, maybe I should have been more specific as I generally meant all kinds of requests (you never know what the customer will ring up about) across all modules of SIMS.net. B2B = Utter filth! but years... to resolve a case... I think that's a bit too long really.
  14. I seem to remember two issues, the first one, admittedly it didn't break the SIMS.net installation, it just broke the connection as the homepage kept trying to connect to the database to refresh the panels which subsequently forced the database into single user mode... not particularly hard to solve but it was a really annoying problem which I had a lot of calls about. Also, schools with a particular type of dataset had issues when after they'd upgraded, upon trying to log in they'd receive an error about a completely random table. Both of these schools had to have site specific patches created in order for them to log in to SIMS again so I'd say that's an upgrade breaking an installation/database.
  15. Man... oh man. This topic has veered towards SupportNet and the service desk... Let's face it, SupportNet isn't a particularly great website, it errors so frequently half the time I'm unable to even log a case through it - probably because it's not been updated since hmm.... 2003? The solution search function isn't particularly great and often brings up completely irrelevant results and then the KB's are often so poorly written that even I'm confused half the time. Customers I deal with often ring up asking questions along the lines of "what does this KB actually mean?" and "do I have to do this?" after having seen these KB's. I know many LA's are also thinking the same thing a lot of the time as I've even had calls from them simply to "rant about X KB". Support Desk stats, hmmm... maybe although that does raise an interesting question... if you were on a service desk, how many cases would you expect one person to resolve and then close in a day?
  16. I don't actually own any ties at all. I've never had to wear one being female although I am intrigued now... maybe I should buy one and find out! Although I might look waaaaay too smart for the office... hmm.
  17. I don't really think they've ever had much other choice when it comes to the MIS market. To which department I wonder...
  18. There are so many issues that cause Reason 0. Incorrect connect.ini, problems with mapped network drives, database not upgraded successfully, SQL Services issue, there is something wrong with the users login... to list a few.
  19. I went for a job once, it was one of those crappy door to door sales jobs. I quickly realised that it was a load of crap and I would have walked off sooner if I could... we spent 8hrs walking round houses in the middle of London (which was 30+ miles from where home was at the time) harassing people into buying crap which they didn't want. Needless to say, I simply didn't go back the next day. I was really tempted to walk out on my previous job, the only reason I didn't was because it was my first job and it would look weird if a) I'd been unemployed for 2yrs and b) I'd suddenly just applied for another job and claimed to have the knowledge to do the job without any previous experience.
  20. I'm not sure what the reason is... I wouldn't split anything up by gender unless I were using it for reporting purposes...
  21. Yeah, I've not really been too sure what to advise schools in regard to this either. I think it all boils down to this: do parents actually need to see their childs SEN data? I'd personally say that you'd only need to tell parents a) what SEN their child has (although they probably already know) and b) what actions the school is taking in order to deal with the childs SEN. As for the rest of the data, it's probably not relevant although I'm not 100% sure on what SLG actually displays.
  22. Gah! The electricity in the new office keeps tripping! You don't need to import the reports incrementally as they completely over-write each report rather than updating them. You do need to upgrade the database incrementally though but SOLUS/dbupgrade handles that. It sounds to me like those records are stuck somewhere in the database (back end) good luck with that support call!
  23. Don't you have the reports for 7.132? Hmm... more issues with unlinked contacts... none of the schools I support have complained yet but I'll keep an eye open.
  24. Hmm... I'm not really too sure about this. I'd rather not have all of my accounts in one place, some of them are for work and others are personal... they need to stay separate (and I wouldn't buy 2). So I'll be sticking with good old e-mail/MSN and trusty pieces of paper. I can see it being a fad with the kids at school though.
  25. Well, I've just given this a go and it seems that it isn't possible to create your own user defined columns which can be displayed in the register. The only additional columns available seem to be in the attendance setup screen and it only includes columns such as gender, adno, SEN and behaviour today (which may be useful for you but any behaviour incidents would have to be entered in the normal way rather than through the register). The only way which I can think of to do this would be to create a marksheet within Assessment Manager... then you could create your own fields and have the teachers enter any values on the Marksheet tab in Take Register. Still... I'm not sure how well it would work for tracking behaviour on a lesson by lesson basis. It would probably be possible to report on this but I suspect it'd be quite a complex report. That's all I can think of and it's not very good, I'm afraid that my knowledge is fairly limited when it comes to behaviour in SIMS... they keep changing the way in which it works and not many schools I support use it so I don't get too many queries.
