Exchange External mail not flowing
local-lad-steve replied to local-lad-steve's topic in Enterprise Software
update: its taking upto 3 days for external email to route into the domain. having looked at the exchange server today, I found that disk space was down to 4%. BUT, surely if exchange doesn't allow for disk space to go below a threshold then internal mail would also stop working?? Also i found that there is a certificate issue. its looking for 'mail.domain.com.au' where as the certificate is 'remote.domain.com.au' could this be the issue?? if so, how do we go about fixing the certificate?? See attachment..... Exchange is running on an SBS server 2008 and exchange is running on sp1 - I believe. im in desperate need to get this resolved..any suggestions appreciated!!!!!! thanks!!- 24 replies

Hi, URGENT HELP NEEDED! we have a client we look after at work that is having mail routing problems. Internal mail in fine, it is simply anything that is leaving the organisation or coming into the organisation. I am pretty new to exchange and have been lumbered with this problem and am under pressure to get it fixed. below are the results of another engineers testing smtp port 25 Testing inbound SMTP mail flow for domain '[email protected]'. The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer failed to test inbound SMTP mail flow. Test Steps Attempting to retrieve DNS MX records for domain 'DOMAIN.com.au'. One or more MX records were successfully retrieved from DNS. Additional Details Testing Mail Exchanger mail.DOMAIN.com.au. One or more SMTP tests failed for this Mail Exchanger. Test Steps Attempting to resolve the host name mail.DOMAIN.com.au in DNS. The host name resolved successfully. Additional Details Testing TCP port 25 on host mail.DOMAIN.com.au to ensure it's listening and open. The port was opened successfully. Additional Details Analyzing SMTP Capabilities for server mail.DOMAIN.com.au:25 SMTP Capabilities were analyzed successfuly. Additional Details Attempting to send a test email message to [email protected] using MX mail.DOMAIN.com.au. Delivery of the test email message failed. Additional Details The server returned status code -1 - The operation has timed out. Exception details: Message: The operation has timed out. Type: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException Stack trace: at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at Microsoft.Exchange.Tools.ExRca.Tests.SmtpMessageTest.PerformTestReally There have been multiple tests run, some email gets into the exchange server, but can take several hours. I have had an email from an engineer that is now on annual leave to tell me what he has tried to do, some of which is: - Disable Antivirus services - Enable POP3 and IMAP4 services - Restarted MS Exchange AD topology and Information Store services - Reboot server - Disable Windows firewall private and Public profile - Created new recipient connector - Created new SNMP connector for port 587 - Changed FQDN of all recipient connectors From remote.DOMAIN.com.au to mail.DOMAIN.com.au and vice versa - Changed remote server Ip addressed range to allow all connection for recipient connector All have been tried and tested yet no joy. he suspects maybe MX hosting service provider issue where email gets delayed or dropped. but not sure where to go with this. Any advise people? thanks in advance!!

Problems with email relay
local-lad-steve replied to local-lad-steve's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
i cant see how this is achieved - would the server need to have exchange installed? - as it doesnt. the fact that i can telnet to the mailgate of the school surely is proof enough that there is no rooting errors?! -

local-lad-steve replied to local-lad-steve's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
i can only assume that there is a full stable root between boxes as i can telnet to the mailgate and no problems arrise from this. Both ANY email that is relayed to that domain is getting stuck. struggling......... -
Hi, i am experiencing a strange problem. at work we relay mail for approx. 200 schools. one or two in particular are either recieving mail that has been delayed for long periods or they're not receiving it at all. i have a back log of email queued under "C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Queue". there is no reason that i can see from this end, no trend as such. this tends to be happening to all mail. i have done the following: restarted the smtp service restarted the IIS service removed all mail from the Queue folder, and put it back to hope that it would restart the send process. checked the Delivery tab under IIS manager, which i have extended hops to 200 and reduced the resend time to 1, 2, 4 minutes. we can telnet to the mailgate fine check event logs - nothing that points to the problem checked the smtp log, of which i have copied an affected schools log below: 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address]EHLO - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] EHLO - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] MAIL - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] MAIL - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] RCPT - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] RCPT - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14[mailgate ip address] BDAT - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] - - 0 13:59:14 [mailgate ip address] BDAT - 0 can anyone suggest a reason that may be causing this? simply telling the client that it is a problem at his end is not good enough for him. any suggestions welcomed!!!! thanks!

Hi, i am currently on a project whereby i am installing a deployment solution at several sites. i have this problem now twice at two of four sites that have been targetted so far. i am running WDS in native mode using a windows 7 boot.wim. i have setup WDS correctly, all the correct files are there, in the right place and all looks good. Until we try to deploy the image. i have been running WDS now for 6 months using a windows 7 boot.wim to capture and deploy 6 different XP images without a single problem. i have captured an XP image and successfully uploaded it to the WDS server. when we select to deploy the image (now using the boot.wim instead of the capture.wim) it deploys and looks normal until the first reboot (which occurs following the unpacking of the windows files) at which point it reboots and displays the following error; "Windows could not start because of a disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the windows documentation about the hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for addtional information." This is something that has occured with a couple of different laptops, the most recent is a Dell Latitude E5410. anyone had a similar problem? can anyone shed any light? cheers!

Resolved it today. went back to the beginning and started as fresh. cleared the server of WDS and any subsequent files/folders, created a new image and injected the NIC driver into a fresh boot.wim. full unattended XP deployment all working fine!!

yes it's odd!! cant find any reference to the same problem although the above error does pop up here and there on forums. any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! need to get this sorted over next few days. thanks.

Hello, i am having much trouble with WDS. having had problems with the boot images (capture image and deploy image) and injecting the network drivers i successfully captured an XP image for a Dell Optiplex 380. However, after trying to deploy the image to another 380 machine, WDS gets as far as "copying windows files", "expanding windows files" and before it begins to "install features" it reboots the PC and obviously has no OS installed. i took a copy of the log file "setupapi.app.log" off the PC and all successes apart from the below. this looks to be trying to search for a wireless .dll file, however, i am confused by this as i am using a Dell Optiplex 380. am i missing something? >>> [DIF_SELECTBESTCOMPATDRV - PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1692&SUBSYS_04001028&REV_01\4&2696CBC&0&00E0] >>> Section start 2010/03/19 16:35:22.820 cmd: X:\Sources\setup.exe !!! dvi: Loading module 'X:\WINDOWS\system32\wlaninst.dll' failed. !!! dvi: Error 126: The specified module could not be found. !!! dvi: Error 126 loading CoInstaller(wlaninst.dll,WlanDeviceClassCoInstaller) !!! dvi: Error 126: The specified module could not be found. !!! dvi: Loading module 'X:\WINDOWS\system32\wwaninst.dll' failed. !!! dvi: Error 126: The specified module could not be found. !!! dvi: Error 126 loading CoInstaller(wwaninst.dll,WwanDeviceClassCoInstaller) !!! dvi: Error 126: The specified module could not be found. <<< Section end 2010/03/19 16:35:22.852 <<< [Exit status: SUCCESS] >>> [setupInstallServicesFromInfSectionEx - MS_NETBT_SMB.PrimaryInstall.Services] >>> Section start 2010/03/19 16:35:34.583 cmd: X:\Sources\setup.exe <<< Section end 2010/03/19 16:35:34.583 <<< [Exit status: FAILURE(0xe0000101)] any ideas as to why this deployment might be failing? thanks
