Same problem here, Word 2016 crashing with almost identical errors showing in event viewer (as per first post). Also seeing it crash when attempting to create reports from within SIMS... Not a good start to our Windows 10 rollout.

Hi SHimmer54, To clarify, we already have workstations/laptops activating correctly (both on domain and in workgroups). My issue is I'm unable to activate Windows 10 LTSB 2016 with my current KMS setup. I have asked Microsoft for an updated key to allow me to do this but I've only been given a specific Windows 10 LTSB 2016 key, when I was expecting them to give me an updated Server2012R2&Win10 key..

Hi Shimmer45 Just to clarify, so you are actually activating TWO separate keys on your host?

The laptops are not configured to be part of the domain but are configured to use KMS, that's just the way its set up here.

Unfortunately we also use the Windows 10 LTSB installation on staff laptops (which are configured to be in a workgroup) so I prefer not to use that method.

We have a Server 2012 R2 server acting as our KMS host, and as our Server 2016 key (as shown in the screenshot) doesn't specifically state it includes Windows 10 like the other KMS key does, I wasn't sure if I could/should be using that one? Is that all I need to do then is just register the Server 2016 key on our host, thus replacing the old one?

Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong forum, but I'm at my wits end and figured the Windows 10 forum would get the most hits... Here are our current KMS keys available to us as part of our Licence Agreement: We are currently using the yellow highlighted key on our KMS host since the Summer and it has been successfully activating hundreds of Windows 7 workstations and the few Windows Enterprise LTSB 2015 test workstations we've configured so far. Last week I thought I'd download and start testing with the Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 version instead, and saw that it wasn't activating with our current KMS key. A quick search and I discovered that 2016 requires a new KMS key. No problem, I'll call Microsoft support and request a new key. Well, after what seems like numerous calls which have either been disconnected at their end, disconnected at MY end (after slamming the phone down because I ended up speaking with someone who, to put it nicely, must speak English as a second language AND trying to understand them over an incredibly poor line) I finally managed to get across the fact that I required a new KMS key for activating LTSB 2016. This morning I logged into the VLSC to review our KMS keys and saw we now have a new KMS key listed for 2016 (circled in red). My issue is I'm not sure how to proceed. My limited understanding of KMS is that I can only have one key active at a time, so how am I supposed to use the newly acquired KMS key they have provided me? Surely they should be updating our Windows Srv2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10 key? I don't think I can bear another call to Microsoft support - only to have them forward me to their website and be immediately prompted to enter my credit card details. Hi, I'm running Ubuntu via Virtualbox on a Windows 7 host with a 'host only' network adapter and the teacher has requested internet access within the VM. His reasoning for this is that there are certain tasks the students will be required to do in the course that will require internet connectivity (e.g. running 'sudo apt-get' commands). I've read posts on other forums about getting this to work by configuring two network adapters for the VM (one as 'host only', the other as 'NAT') but I still can't get it locked down. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wonder if the people at K-COM have pulled their 'uber-fast' lever this morning? One thing's for sure, we certainly won't be ringing them if the internet connection dies a death this afternoon. We'll just get the usual stock response of "There's no issue at our end that we're aware of..." and then 5 minutes after calling them everything suddenly goes back to normal. Funny that.

We're setting up four viewing areas and projecting it onto screens. To try and alleviate internet usage we're blocking access to iPlayer on all classroom workstations during the match, but I'm sure we'll still get the "spinny-wheel of doom". Personally, I'm going to stay in the office and enjoy a few hours of peace whilst everyone is watching the game.

I'm glad someone else was having difficulty with Classic Shell, as I also gave it a try and found it to be unresponsive. So I'm now back to doing the Start Menu for roaming profiles without any third-party software assistance... Have you had any luck with the method described in this thread?

I'm in the middle of setting up Windows 10 and had trouble getting this to work as well. I ended up adding some registry entries relating to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes within Group Policy and that did the trick. PM me and I'll send you the info.

I'm bumping this as I'm still a little unsure how to proceed. With help from various Edugeek members, I now have VirtualBox set up in an ICT Suite with the VM copied to each C: drive and shortcuts set up for the students to open the VM in a restricted way. At the moment the VM's are immutable and are reset after each use. The Teacher wants the students to be able to make changes to the VM and have them remembered after each use (as part of a controlled assessment). Am I right in thinking that I could make the VM disk 'normal' and take a snapshot of it, then give each controlled assessment account a copy of the same differencing disk in their user area and configure VirtualBox to look at that folder when they log on?

Thanks for the assistance chaps. It was, as stated, the fact that I'd not added the username I had set up in the Linux VM to the VBOXSF group that was preventing the H: share from working.

Ok... so I just need to add the username I used in my VM (which was 'Linux' - creative or what??) into the vboxsf group?

I'm having difficulty trying to successfully map user's H: drives from within an Ubuntu VM in VirtualBox. I've set up the VM with an immutable disk, installed the guest additions and created a shared folder like this: Folder Path: H:\mywork Folder Name: mywork Auto-mount enabled. When I boot up the VM (logged into Windows 7 with a test user account) the H drive shows up in Ubuntu but when I select it I get the following message: "The location could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "sf_mywork" Unfortunately I just cannot work out what permissions it is complaining about to sort this issue out. I've read posts in other forums about setting user access within the 'vboxsf' group, but it only mentions scenarios of individual usernames and not a 'wildcard' setting. Can anyone help?

Howdy folks, I have a GTX780 and I have been recently experimenting with using Dynamic Super Resolution in games. I'm seeing if upping the resolution to 1440p on a 1080p TV with DSR smoothing set to 33% is nicer and more preferable than using normal 1080p with the driver's standard anti-aliasing (as opposed to it being switched off on DSR). As of this week I have tested the following games: Dirt Rally Far Cry 4 GTA IV GTA V Grid Autosport RAGE Surprisingly - and much to my delight - I'm finding that the performance hit of using DSR in all of these titles is negligible and that, to my own taste, there is a definite increase in visual fidelity in using DSR over traditional AA methods. If anything having that crispness in DSR is somewhat ruined by also using AA (as well as causing an FPS drop). I was just curious to see if others have at least dabbled with DSR or are using it fully? Are any of you using a combination of DSR smoothness AND AA? Thanks.

I have a two year old gaming PC that is in need of a good home. The specs are as follows: Zalman Z9 Pro case + two custom red-LED 'silent' case fans. Asus P67 Pro rev 3.1 motherboard Intel i5-2500k o/c to 4.4Ghz (stable) +Coolermaster cooler Gainward GTX780 Graphics card with 3Gb VRAM 8Gb DDR3 memory Samsung 840 250Gb internal SSD (for O/S) 500Gb internal HDD 7200rpm XFX 800W PSU +custom red-LED light Wireless keyboard & mouse. There will be no O/S supplied with this rig. This has been a very powerful machine and can run GTA V with 'very high' textures with an average of 45fps at 1440p. All other games I have tried can run maxed out. I am happy to email photos or respond to any queries or questions. Due to the fact that the GTX780 is still close in performance to a GTX970 I am asking for £650, which I think is still a decent bargain for a machine of this specification. This cost me £1,300 when new. The PC has been thoroughly cleaned and is totally free of any dust contamination. I am selling due to restricted space and family life eating into my gaming time! Collection will be in the Chesterfield, Derbyshire area.

The plan is to install VirtualBox on each workstation and copy the VM (with its immutable disk) on the C: drive of each machine.

Thanks for your response. I should say our students use roaming profiles. Is there a way within VirtualBox where I can specify where the Differencing Disks are located? I don't really want to store the differencing disk in their roaming profile, ideally it would live in their H: drive.

Hi everyone, I've been tasked with trying to get Linux working virtually within VirtualBox so that students can do a research project. I've done a bit of reading up on this but I'm starting to wonder if the software is incapable of doing what is required. Basically, the staff have asked if it is possible for each student to have a Linux VM which will allow them to connect to their user area to save work and also the VM needs to be modifiable so that any changes they make within Linux will still be there the following lesson. So far I've got VirtualBox installed on my Windows 7 test pc and I've managed to set up a new VM of Linux and configured it as an immutable disk. I now know (thanks to another EduGeek user) that I can use the Shared Folders option within VB to map to the student's H: drive, so that's not a problem. What I'm unsure about is how I can give each user logging onto the machine the ability to make changes within the VM that will be unique to them and will still be there the following lesson. I'm assuming it will involve the use of differencing disks but I'm scratching my bonce trying to work out how I can allocate unique differencing disks to each student that will be using VB. Any guidance or alternate methods to achieve this would be most helpful. Thanks everyone.

I second the disable right-click idea. We've been using Windows 7 in our school since 2012 and we've disabled right-click functionality for students since day 1 - and never had a single complaint about it. We DO allow them to right click in IE (so they can save images) but that's it. I personally don't see the need to allow them to do this anyway. The only function they really require (copy/paste) they can do via the menus/shortcut keys anyway.

As far as I know, there is no 'auto save' in Word. There is only the option of AutoSaving recovery information in the event of a crash, hence why you're not seeing anything in your designated location. The time interval must be a memory dump that it then writes to a file in the event of a program failure.

Hi everyone I have a weird issue that's been on-going for many months now relating to Flash installations. Whenever a new version is released I'll download the MSI distributable and deploy it through Group Policy, removing the old package and adding the new MSI within Software Installations. For around 95% of the machines the package takes with no issues, but we have a handful of computers in certain rooms that never install the new MSI. If I go to an affected workstation and check the logs there are no errors, and if I run a GPUPDATE on the machine and restart it, it still won't see the new package. In the end I just have to uninstall the old version and put the new one on manually. It's very frustrating. Interestingly, other MSI's will install fine on these machines, so I know it's nothing to do with their setup. Has anyone else had this kind of issue with Flash? Thanks in advance.
