  1. how did you get on with the auto enrollment? I remeber every time we added a new group we had to run this script to populate moodle with the course. I think if you run this and try and logon as a student it should work
  2. Why not use sharepoint for the intranet site?
  3. did you run the ldap sync to get all the groups created as classes in Moodle If you go into the autoenrolment section and read the blurb in the box at the top it talks about a link. When you copy and paste this link a script runs which goes to LDAP, looks in the OU's with the groups and creates the courses. Can i just check before you do this, you have defined a teacher and student OU. These OU's contain groups for example Teacher OU class1 Student OU class1
  4. Apparently this idea of a resource domain will work, here are some MS articles to help Synchronizing Active Directory Objects to SQL Server Synchronizing SQL Server Objects to Active Directory
  5. Personal Learning Environment The details i've found so far relate to the use of social software to delivery education... staff using blogs or wikis, students creating collaboration groups etc. All very web 2.0 and all sounds very interesting
  6. Now i think about this again, is this not the reason the shibboleth project took off? Shibboleth
  7. I've just asked the question on the microsoft MIIS forum, if somone gets back to me i'll post here.
  8. Now this is total theory and not based on anything i've tried.. however... Take this example School 1, School 2, School 3 all on the same WAN as you describe. We create a domain lets call it central We set a trust up between School 1 and Central, then School 2 and Central and School 3 and Central. We then use Microsoft Identity Integration to dump all the user identity details into this central domain We then configure moodle to authenticate agains this domain....... Now as i said this is total seat of the pants guessing stuff. We use identity manager for GAL replication between our parent company and ourselves (yeah sorry folks i no longer work in education!!) so i know it's possible to dump the data from one domain to the other.. infact now i think on it you dont need the trust between the schools, u need an account with permissions on each domain So School 1 domain has an account centralconnectionout, The central domain has the account centralconnectionin You supply the details for each between the domains to set up the replication....... If this works i'd be shocked but it might get you on the right track [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Identity_Integration_Server]Microsoft Identity Integration Server - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
  9. On the subject of sharepoing has anyone found staff, students having difficulty using the mysite section for blogging. Its not as friendly as some applications out there. One thing i have looked at is Joomla. It's modules including community builder show some real promise and apparently u can authenticate with Joomla and Moodle using an extenstion (jforms or something like that)
  10. ELGG and moodle integration seems to be taking us away from the VLE and onto the PLE. It provides thie social networking aspect with moodle being used to drive the content. I'm also interested to see if anyone is using ELGG and Moodle to this end
  11. Hi Everyone Has anyone been involved in the development of a PLE environment for online learning. It seems to be gathering quite a bit of momentum. The use of ELGG with Moodle seems to be a good starting point. I'm interested to here if anyone has set up this sort of social learning with ELGG or even sharepoint (letting staff and students blogg etc)
  12. I think Ivysoft can provide and create materials. I've seen some of the desktop software and MS training software they do it's impressive looking and VLE platform independant
  13. Can you tell us more about the network setups between the schools (are u on the same wan for example) It may be possible to set up a "resource" domain with user accounts in these. U could look at Microsoft Identity manager, it would mean trusts and the likes but in theory i guess it would be possible
  14. some web hosting companies now provide 1 click installs for moodle (Uk2 for 1) might be worth looking into that. It can be tricky to setup
  15. Can i just double check your LDAP setup, from what i can see you have 1 domain with 2 OU's in it? The reason i ask is i have got this working in my set up but the student domain is a child of the staff domain so in order for it to work we had to tell authentication to look specifically at the global catalogue server (and port) and use universal groups in the staff domain which we could list the students in
