  1. Unfortunately that is blocked for me, but I remember pinging those for hours on end when I was a young'un. Ahhh.. them were the days!
  2. Hehe, I laughed anyway. Surprised the site wasn't blocked by our LEA filter!
  3. So why do they not make 1/8" jack connections a standard feature on car radios .. Is it a ploy to make people to buy overpriced FM transmitters from Halfords? Discuss!
  4. Yeah i've tried reseting both timers for the filter and lamp, plus i've cleaned the filter. Did a factory reset on the projector itself too.. I wonder if dust might have got clogged up inside, and is perhaps making it overheat? I just can't see that it's the lamp, when the projector will operate for 10-15 mins on each power reset. Even if it has just been on. Thanks!
  5. So a projector wasn't working yesturday (Hitachi ED-X8250).. The lamp indicator was showing red, so I tried a bulb change, turned it back on, and all seemed fine. 15 mins later i've a knock at my door with a message that the projectors down again. So I went back tried the good old power on and off again, and it came back to life. Didn't hear anything all day so assumed it was fixed. But apparently it had gone off again, though I wasn't told until this morning, right before the teacher needed it again..! So I don't know whats wrong with it, it seems to be running quite hot, so i'm not sure if it's overheating, and disabling itself , because it always seems to happen after 10-15mins. I've tried 2 new bulbs, and the one that was in there initially - when the image is there it looks fine, so i'm thinking it's not an issue with the bulb. On referring to the manual it seems to point to air filter clogged, air passage clogged? I can't see any clogging. I've tried turning up the fan speed as well, but same result. After it has turned itself off I get a steady red light on LAMP and POWER, but the TEMP light is unlit. This carries on, and the projector won't come back on again until I turn it off from the mains, and on again. Then when it does come on, the image is fine, until 15 mins-ish later, it powers down and the 2 red light come back. Any ideas?
  6. Yeah, definately gonna have a notepad at hand! Cya 2moro.
  7. I can see that, and I want to be bold and step in and say 'RM Be banished!'.. But it is difficult as i'm new to the school and the occupation. I think small steps are in order, and like some have suggested, it sounds good to me to start learning the vanilla way independantly from my school network. That way I can make a smooth changeover if I decide to go non-RM in the future. If it was just my head on the line I think I would I go with my gut instinct that RM is probably not the best way to go. But at the end of the day i've 400 kids here who's education will be affected if it all goes belly up, plus an LEA who seems to be on the RM bench as it were. Time is a concern to me as well, as CC4 is creeping in..
  8. My school is supported by 'School IT Systems Support', or 'SITSS'. I think they're built in pretty closely with the Herts county council, hence why our school is supported by them. They've always been helpful when i've contacted them, so can't fault them really. In terms of our contract with them, nobody seemed to be able to tell me what the deal is, so I couldn't say. I'm still unravelling the mystery that is my position within the school..
  9. Yeah, sorry they were
  10. Unfortunately not...
  11. Yeah, thanks for that Neph, am looking forward to it, hopefully I will learn a few things/get some ideas - that's if we don't spend the time discussing Bad Company 2, but then we might have some tips to swap on that too.. haha.. That's interesting.. I haven't seen many pro-RM posts on here! I actually had a sales representative come in to my school (which I forgot I had booked, as it was sort've thrown upon me over the phone in my first month working at the school..). He was telling me all the benefits of CC4 etc, warning me that change was imminent. I listened to all he had to say - because like I say, i'm new to this game, and i'm trying to take in everything before I start pretending I know what i'm on about. I did get the feeling he was making CC4 out to be THE only way to go. He didn't once mention any other choices (I mean, why would he, he's a sales representative for RM!). He mentioned that I would have to be careful as if I bought new machines in the future (like next academic year) I wouldn't be able to get XP on them and then our CC3 server wouldn't support them etc.. not sure how true that is? I know XP is getting on a bit now, but I was pretty sure it would be available for atleast a few more years yet.. That's my predicament really, as at the end of the day, i've got my local support team telling me RM is the best way to go, and RM, and that's all this school has ever really known. Plus I don't want to leave the school in the pooper if I make a decision to steer away from RM and then am unable to support it due to my own inadequacies. I understand why the local team is advising RM as well, since i'm the only member of IT staff in-house, so what happens if I leave, and don't have a standard system in place etc.. It's all a bit confusing. But i'm learning slowly... Hah, and in terms of my head wanting to go ALL laptops, yeah don't worry, I can feel the pain already!
  12. Wow, you guys are quick! Cheers for all the replies I hadn't used the 'update packages list' command before.. it seems if you use the wizard it updates automatically, as i've never had a problem with not seeing packages. I ended up have 2 versions of this program in the list because I made my custom folder first, then made a package using the application wizard afterwards (before I updated the list). So 2 appeared. To try and differentiate between the two different versions (the one I made, and the one the wizard made), I altered the 'description' of one of them, but this change is still not reflected in the RMMC. So it must be stored somewhere else? Not that this really matters, but I like to know whats going on underneath the table if you know what I mean..
  13. Alright, so I had an MSI I wanted to send out as a package across our CC3 network, and I know I can just use the RM application wizard, add an existing windows installer etc, and it will then become available as a packge within the RMMC. However, i'm intrigued to know what the application wizard actually does? It seems to me, when you look in the 'packages' drive, you've got a folder for each 'package' as such, which just includes a little ini file, an msi, and sometimes extras like shortcuts etc. So I figured I could just go into this drive, add a folder for a custom package, add in an msi, configure the .ini file so it targets to the correct msi, add a description and it would appear within the management console, but it doesn't seem so. Also if I go in and edit the 'description' field within an .ini file of an existing 'package', no change is reflected within the RMMC. So where does the link lie? Is it a standard RM thing, or subject to network? If anyone has any clues that'd be great, Thanks!
  14. Sorry to revive this topic back again, but i'm still wrestling with this screensaver thing. Okay basically, i've got the screensaver working now, but it only works if I add these registry settings to EACH computer on the network manually: [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\PresentationPoint\MessagePoint] "EndOnKeyboard"="True" "EndOnMouse"="True" "Language"="EN" "LastProductInfo"="2" "Presentation"="\\\\*ServerName*\\*Folder*\\*NameOfPowerpoint.pps*" "Timestamp"="01/01/2000" The main one being the 'Presentation"=" - which tells messagepoint which file to use as the screensaver. Now my school is on CC3, so I figured I could just add the reg file as a 'custom setting' through the management console, and the said registry setting would be added out across my workstations (tried it through my custom workstation type, and Global workstation properties). However, the registry setting just doesn't get allocated. If I goto a random workstation, and manually click on the same registry fragment, add it in, then my screensaver works fine. But obviously I don't want to go round every single station doing this everytime I make a change to the settings of the screensaver, or EVER for that matter.. Tried contacting RM about it, and they told me I don't have support with them. Tried contacting my local support team, and they ended up asking RM, who then directed me to an article which just tells me how to add a custom screensaver - But it doesn't solve the problem, because the problem is I need to change the settings of the screensaver (which can only be done through the registry...!!!!) So yeah, feel like i'm going round in circles here. Tempted to just give up, but where's the fun in that? Forgive me as i'm still very much learning as I go along. Is there anyway to allocate out a registry setting to all computers on my network, without going through the RMMC?
  15. I rarely play the 'sniper' on any game, but I did enjoy taking down a UAV with the overly powerful BF sniper rifle the other day haha!
  16. It is annoying to walk in and find them on in lunchtimes when the classroom is empty... Though to be fair most the teachers here do seem to turn them off when not being used. Don't most projectors turn off automatically when no signal is given for a set amount of time? I know that solves the problem of them being left on overnight/weekend if the computers are on a schedule.
  17. Spiders are okay by me, til they get in your bed... Once I was watching TV late at night in bed, the TV being on level with the bottom of my bed, so my eye line had the mattress in view. Sort've half awake, I see the silhouette of a spider come across between me and the TV 'OH WHAT THE!', out of bed, light on, mattress in the air, got the little beggar in a glass and out the window! He/she/it crossed the boundary.. I'd never kill em them though, just escort them safely outside
  18. It's tempting! I think i've been consolised though, blame my uni mates..!
  19. Seems like most peeps are on the PC version here, but if you're on Xbox live add me up - Gamertag : ChazamoN Need to play with people who communicate! Why does noone ever talk on battlefield.. was the same on BC1! The girlfriends away this weekend, so gonna be having a full-on session tehehe...
  20. Four?!? That's madness surely lol. And no dedicated servers on PC, what is this world coming to??
  21. Goodness.. They're charging for PC now as well!! ..and I suppose the selling point on PC is if you want to play new maps on official ranked servers then you have to pay official ranked prices!
  22. So I hadn't been keeping an eye on upcoming news but I heard someone say the first pack was coming out on the 30th March. On a little googling this morning.. (inbetween important work!) I find the map packs going to be 1200ms points! Now I had all the Cod 5 packs, which were all 800 points.. which I think was a bit more acceptable. Atleast they're re-releasing Overgrown, that was a map n' a half! Bring back the days of free content if you ask me.. *considers going back to PC gaming..*
  23. Qft! Seriously, maybe there could be a big Las Vegas style sign 'LEVEL CROSSING HERE! Ensure common sense is installed!'
  24. Okay.. I've got messagepoint to run okay now, but only if a user is logged on. Now that kind've defeats the object of the screensaver, as I really wanted it to play a slideshow when nobody was using the computer. I have set the messagepoint.scr to run after a short idle time on the log on screen, however nothing ever comes. It works when I use a different screensaver file, and I think perhaps as messagepoint is really just a prompt to run a file in powerpoint maybe there lies the problem? Could it be possible that powerpoint can't function unless a user is logged on? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  25. Right... I'm probably just being dumb, but I'm having trouble configuring the messagepoint.scr Basically, the RM management console (yes i'm on CC3 ) is obviously controlling the GPO that allows me to choose which screensaver I have. Although I have disabled everything to do with 'specifying the screensaver for user' I still can't select or configure screensavers through the traditional display options. Now presumably I can just use the messaepoint.scr as the default screensaver through the management console, however on doing this nothing happens, as I can't access the configuration settings to set which PPT file is to be used. I've tried going directly to the Messagepoint.scr file within my system32 folder, however on clicking 'configure' it just brings up the demo PPT that comes with the install file, not the configuration settings! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
